View Full Version : jogging strollers okay? (DLR)
zandy 04-21-2006, 06:26 PM We have an almost 3-year-old we're taking to DLR this month, and until recently we were planning on taking our regular lightweight stroller for him. However, we're considering taking the Baby Jogger instead. My concern is that the Jogger is too big. It's certainly more comfortable to push (I don't think my son has a preference), but I don't want it to be a big(ger) hassle in crowds, on the shuttle from the hotel, etc. What do folks think?
GusMan 04-21-2006, 07:14 PM While I cannot speak for DLR, I have seen them at WDW and generally take up no more space than a double rental stroller. I think you will be fine.
Drince88 04-22-2006, 05:31 AM The only thing with that size comparison (which is probably accurate) is that I don't think DL rents double-strollers because they take up so much room on the much narrower walkways in DL (compared to WDW).
Edited to add: I found this thread (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=55068) that confirmed that DL does not have double-strollers
Take the jogger! We love ours. I don't think it takes any more width that a plain stroller. They are just a little longer ;)
Comfort is the way to go!

zandy 04-23-2006, 09:27 AM Yes, my concern is really more about the length than the width. Also about the lack of ease folding it up. Can you think of a situation where I would need to fold it up while in the park, other than getting it on and off the shuttle from the hotel?

If you don't plan on using either of these, it wouldn't be an issue.
hlbtimes2 04-23-2006, 06:58 PM Are you talking about a regular single child jogger? If so, it will be fine. The strollers they rent are jogging style strollers.

No, no other folding in required. Just transportation. Monorail, shuttle buss. That's it. :)

Trumpeteer 04-24-2006, 01:21 PM If you want to watch the parade in any of the sitting areas around the hub, you might be able to leave your stroller out if you can park it against the fence or in front of a bench where you are sitting. Otherwise, they will ask you to fold it up and place it on the grass behind you, and CM's are happy to assist you in getting your stroller in and out of the fenced gardens. I don't know if the fireworks or Fantasmic! have similar seating areas with the same policy.
If your concern is having to fold it up quickly, then transportation situations should be the only time you will have to deal with it, but I wouldn't worry about it. I think that we should follow the Coast Guard's navigation rules when it comes to strollers in the park: A vessel restricted in its ability to maneuver or a large vessel in a narrow channel has right of way over smaller and/or more maneuverable vessels.
In my own experience, parents tend to be cautious when pushing their strollers because the greatest threat is that someone will not be watching where they are going and trip or fall into the stroller on top of their child. I have never seen someone use their stroller as a battering ram to force their way through a crowd.
Disneyland can get very crowded at times (Adventureland can be a nightmare to navigate even without a stroller), and individuals in crowds can be unpredictable. I usually find that a positive attitude and a little patience go a long way in dealing with the traffic and crowds at Disneyland.
junglemom 04-24-2006, 04:32 PM I have seen people with the wide load double joggers. I think I would be miserable pushing one of those around. It's hard enough manuevering the crowds with my most narrow umbrella. It really just comes down to what you can handle.

A couple of other things:
DL is much smaller than WDW. So bigger strollers at WDW are going to be easier to use because they're not negociating spaces as tightly as many DLR spaces.
Also, the jogging strollers that DLR rents are not as big as many jogging strollers that I've seen. Just FYI.
I've never taken a jogging stroller. My biggest stroller is a double tandem stroller and it can be a pain at times because of its size. But I will say that my level of tolerance, patience, compassion for fellow parents, etc, bottoms out when I see side-by-side jogging strollers in DLR. They're just too big for that park and the crowds it attracts.

Koala Gurl 04-25-2006, 07:08 PM I usually bring my jogger-style (technically, an all-terrain...a tiny bit smaller than a jogger). It is DREAM to push around the parks (cobblestones don't bother us so much w/ this stroller).
I have not had an issue with space / size (I take the parking tram, and I don't have to fold if I sit in the front rows of the front car.)
I think joggers can actually be more maneuverable than other strollers (if you don't have to fold often.)
If we are in Fantasyland...sometimes I'll park the stroller somewhere out of the way and just carry DD around between rides.

Here here! I cannot count how many times I have had to reset shop displays, or escort guests to first aid because of giant double strollers (not to mention, ecv's).
