My company (http://www.avvenu.com/) is preparing to release the next major version of our product, and we are now in public beta. I encourage anyone reading this to give it a try; it's free, useful, and if you participate in the beta program and answer a survey at the end, you'll get a one-year subscription to the Pro-level service for free.
Avvenu is a two-headed product: You can access your own files--stored on your home or office PCs--from anywhere you happen to be, via laptop, cellphone, or connected PDA. You can also share (on an individual basis; this is not Kazaa-style P2P file sharing) any file or directory with anyone, while keeping tight control over what is shared, to whom, and for how long.
With the Pro-level service, you don't even need to leave your computer to share your files; we will keep them available for as long as you want after you turn off your computer.
You don't need a Web or ftp server, just a broadband connection and Windows XP SP2. There is no Mac OS version of the client at this time, but Mac users can receive shares and remotely access PCs through the Web interface. That Web interface, by the way, works on Opera and Firefox as well as Internet Explorer.
Join the beta program here: http://www.avvenu.com/r2beta/
Email support (betatest-support@avvenu.com) is available for beta testers, and I'll be happy to answer questions in this thread.
