We are traveling with my daughter who will be 5 in a month, and she's about 42 pounds. Do we have to bring a carseat for the airport shuttle ride to our hotel (we are flying into John Wayne), and we are also taking the Coach ride to Sea World one day. If we have to bring the carseat with us to Sea World, does that mean we have to drag it around with us all day while we are there? Please advise soon as we leave in 2 days!
Thanks!

If you are using super shuttle for your trans. to and from the airport, you'll want a car seat/ booster seat for that. If you are using the Disney express/ airport bus to and from the airport you wont need it. You wont need it for the coach / bus ride to Sea world.

It really depends on the shuttle service and the type of vehicles they are using. Particularly with your trip so close at hand, I'd strongly recommend calling each of the shuttle companies and asking them. California state law does require car seats for a child that young, unless the vehicle is legally classified as a bus. If you are at all unsure even after checking with the shuttle companies, you would be wise to err on the side of caution and bring the seat along.

AACK!! I am driving out in June with my five year old, who is in a backed-booster because CO (where we live) law allows that at 4 and 40 lbs. Does this mean I need to get a carseat for him (he's five and about 43 lbs, we just moved him into the booster--but that's right where the original poster's child is)? I'd really rather not, as it would mean buying one just for this trip--we no longer have one for him to use, our 3 year old is in it.

A booster is fine for a child that size. He was just using "car seat" as a general term.
Children must be secured in an appropriate child passenger restraint (safety seat or booster seat) until they are at least 6 years old or weigh at least 60 pounds.
Kids should be in car booster seats if they:
Are too big for child safety seats
Weight about 40 - 60 pounds

Thank you Linda and MrsB!! It sounds like we will be OK legally with our booster. I appreciate the quick replies!

Your booster will be fine, but make sure it's in the backseat. CA law also states that any child required to be in a booster/carseat must be in the back (except when there is no backseat). This isn't widely known, I read it in my AAA mag about a year and a half ago. It stuck in my head because my ds was almost 6, and riding in the front seat (with the airbag off) so that I could be in back with (very needy) dd!
Have a great time!!!

Thanks! Yes, CO law is the same--they have to be in the backseat until they are 12 years old here.
