Just thought I'd share our experience for parents who are thinking about bringing a baby backpack (yes, the type that holds a baby on your back) to DL or DCA. We brought ours this past weekend, and we are happy we did!! Our 10 1/2 month old was happy to get out of the stroller every once and a while for a change of scenery, and it was a great way to avoid holding our 20+ pounder during wait times longer than 35 minutes!! We rode Haunted Mansion, and the wait was 45 minutes. Our little guy was happy to look at all the people in line, check out the scenery, and snack on cheerios and juice. He didn't mind the creepy elevator ride with spooky sounds and voices... I just held his hand and reassured him that I was there. He stayed in the backpack until we got close to the conveyor belt that moves along the ride "buggies/pods" (I don't know what they're called) and we were able to all ride together comfortably-- my husband, myself, my 9 YO, and the baby in my lap-- with the backpack stashed on the floor of the ride. It was great!

When we didn't use our backpack, we stashed it in the storage bag of our stroller. The only inconvenient thing was our loaded down diaper bag was difficult to fit in with the backpack. It took a lot of readjusting to get things in and out of the storage basket.

BTW, if you're in the market for a baby backpack, we are happy with ours: the Cross Terrain Carrier by Evenflo. There are some good reviews on the backpack on babiesrus.com, and I just wrote a review myself regarding my DL trip!:)

They're called "doombuggies" :D

Thanks for the info, SoCal, we're going down in two weeks and still debating about taking one of these or not. Thanks for the good review!

Oh, thanks!!:D I read somewhere that they had a funny name, but I couldn't recall. :)

Just went last week and used a carrier front load and baby was able to ride in it on everyride bab y is 6 months old.

we too used it and stuffed it in the stroller basket with diaper bag but being a sling carrier it rolled up very small.

What type of carrier is it, Dedwards? I found a "gently used" snugli at a consignment store, and I think that we're going to try it when we go next week.

I found the "snugli" to be horrible on my back. I had better success with the Bjorn, and even more success with a sling! I now own 2 slings and no front carrier! My baby is now 9 months, and I used them with my almost 4 YO until she was almost 3!

Interesting to know...our little one is going to be stroller-bound for quite a bit of the time (we hope!). She loves to people-watch in the shopping cart at the store, so she may just love it.

I found the snugli for $8.00, so I decided to give it a whirl. I'll have to report my findings when we get back!

I absolutely adored my Baby Bjorn front carrier. And apparently they have a version with extra back support now, too. I know we used ours even when our son was over 20 lbs.

Yes, I have the Bjorn Sport and it is a huge improvement over the "regular" one (that I thought was the greatest thing!) I have been using it w/ my DD until this week (DD is 20 lbs, but I am 20 weeks PG, and she just now presses on my belly in the Bjorn.)

Time to graduate to a backpack or a hip carrier (maybe dust off one of the many slings I bought but could never use!)

We used a fantastic inSTEP stroller/backpack that was great for both our kids at Disneyland until they got to be a little over 1 yr. old. The stroller is super light and very easy to convert to a stroller or a backpack. The backpack is great for getting through the crowds. The kids both liked riding in it whatever its configuration. It has a storage net bag on the back and a detachable sunshade. One of the best baby shower gifts we ever got! We even got one for our friends (found it on e-Bay, never been opened).
