For weeks I've been seeing a promo spot for Deadliest Catch and I Shouldn't be Alive on Discovery Channel. There's a song playing where a woman is singing, "Only time can turn against us".
I really dig that song and was waiting to ask my daughter who sang it. This morning, my daughter was finally watching when the promo came on. I was surprised she had no idea about the song. (My son and daughter know way too much about popular music; good and bad.)
No problem, I thought. I have an Internet connection and I know how to use it. I was amazed to find discussions all over the 'net where people were clamoring to know the same thing. "Who sings that song and where can I get it?"
Nobody seemed to know. People who emailed Discovery received useless auto-replies. Slowly, people learned that the tune from the promo wasn't even a complete song. It was just a short "jingle" recorded specifically for Discovery.
Then it got really interesting. The company who provided the jingle for Discovery has been *inundated* with requests for that song; emails and phone calls have been pouring in. Now the company has announced it has requested the original producers of the song, Cue11, to record a complete version. I learned only that the song is performed by "Amy".
I guess this whole story appeals to my inner Geek because I find it pretty cool. And I can't wait to download the song!
