View Full Version : Interesting comment by John Lasseter at the Stockholder Meeting
Darkbeer 03-10-2006, 11:18 AM John Lasseter is presently addressing the stockholder meeting, and talked about making the timing of new rides to match up with movie premieres.
This is something Universal did with Jurassic Park at USH. They actually started building the attraction before any filming for the movie was done.
I think it is a smart move, as you can do more cross-promotion.
Mark Goldhaber 03-10-2006, 11:56 AM Excellent presentation by Lasseter. (And Iger did a great job, too. He's obviously been working on his stage presence since last year.)

Opus1guy 03-10-2006, 01:01 PM Just curious if any of you that attended noticed the presence of Roy Disney this year? You know...just attending in the audience.
Gregmh48 03-10-2006, 01:12 PM Roy was there in the audience.

Thank You.

George Mitchell made an announcement that three board members emeritus were present - including Roy (and his wife) - who received a round of loud applause.
olegc 03-10-2006, 05:28 PM Iger is a lot smoother than Eisner. You can see where he crafts his answer to questions so as not to put the company in an awkward view - but he does not laud over it nor espouse his own view of the "world as I see it" as Eisner did. Iger treats it like it should be - a quality business of creative people but still smart and profitable. Not the "it's my company" view of Eisner's.

That's pretty much one of the main differences between the two men I've also observed.

I find this hard to believe. The ride opened 4 years after the movie came out.

Patty and Roy (http://www.nowherespecial.net/misc/Roy-Patty-Disney.jpg) were sitting with Ray Watson and Irwin Russell.

All this is great stuff, but what about those Theme Park tickets? Did they give them out again this year? Were they Parkhoppers? Were they World-wides or only good today at the Disneyland Resort or have an expiry date or what? Logo'd oven mits? Anything? Freebies, freebies...we wanna know!
;)

Interesting. A lot more restrictive a type of ticket than they've given in some past years...but still, a nice gift to give to meeting attendees.
Thanks again for the info. :)

yes - and many of the managements were seen (well, by me) holding on to the extras. not the stacks and stacks - but 20 or so each. nice little perk you should think about when prices and costs go up.. :(

There are at least two examples of where Disney has done this as well, but they missed the boat a little bit on the cross-promotion aspect. Both "It's Tough to Be a Bug" and "Countdown to Extinction" (since renamed "Dinosaur") opened well before their associated films did, but it was clear there was a lot of cross-pollenization going on between the movie teams and the ride teams.
