View Full Version : Dieting in Disneyland
Drince88 02-21-2006, 04:25 AM Great article, gals!
Just wondered on something I do at WDW, that you didn't mention ---
Are substitute sides available for the burger-type meals at Disneyland, like at Test Pilots Grill? We thought about trying it there, but the lack of Cast Members and no obvious button on the screen, made us give up and just eat some of the fries.
Thanks, Adrienne Krock and Stephanie Wien. Your article will be a nice reference for many.
Your article was specifically about dieting, I know. It would be helpful if Disney made nutritional information readily available. A weight-loss diet may be optional on vacation but many health conditions demand constant vigilance. A simple list of sat fat or sodium or nut products or wheat or dairy or any of the major dietary concerns would help so many visitors.
Some of it is common sense and experience with a particular health condition. But it would be nice to really know how much salt is in that popcorn from ODV.
Thanks again for a nice article!
LeslieM 02-21-2006, 08:18 AM I enjoyed the read plus it was another insight into Disneyland, as I have only visited WDW. Lots of good general healthful eating tips.
pisces 02-21-2006, 09:40 AM I don't believe in dieting while on Vacation.
I like the idea of indulging on a Vacation, because it gives you something to look forward to during the rest of the year, when you are being good!
That said, I don't like the junk-food snacks, ever, vacation or not.
I always tried to confine things to regular meals, and just snack on fresh fruit.
If you are good 51 weeks a year, going crazy the 52nd week shouldn't destroy a person.
Or, with me being good 10 months out of the year, and letting things slide for 2 months. I seem to be able to get away with that.
adriennek 02-21-2006, 10:24 AM Disneyland has many annual passholders so they're not always on vacation when they visit the park - especially those who visit weekly or even multiple times a week.
But that's quite all right. We wouldn't be doing a MousePlanet kind of job if our article appealed to everyone :~D We have a reputation to maintain, you know. :D

Drince88 02-21-2006, 05:07 PM So, DOES Disneyland allow substitutions of the sides on the meals that come with fries?
stan4d_steph 02-21-2006, 07:01 PM So, DOES Disneyland allow substitutions of the sides on the meals that come with fries?I've never tried it. What do they sub at WDW? The locations I can think of where I get fries, I can't think of what they would have to put in its place. It would be great if you could though!
I know at La Brea Bakery in DTD I have gotten a sandwich that comes with fries or salad greens, your choice.
Mark Goldhaber 02-21-2006, 09:19 PM I've never tried it. What do they sub at WDW?
Usually it's carrots or grapes. If I get chicken instead of that great Caesar salad at Cosmic Ray's, I always get carrots with it. I haven't seen grapes in a while, but I usually don't even get things that come with fries, so I don't look at the alternatives.
Alex S. 02-21-2006, 11:20 PM I assume it was something about how we staged the photos of DCA empty for that park update, since that is what generated most of the emails I received but I'm curious exactly what was said (if that is in fact it).
And, by the way, the photos were not taken at park opening, rushing ahead of the crowds but rather at 1:30 in the afternoon. And my point was not that DCA is always so empty (it isn't) but that it is on most off-season Wednesdays and that is why it wouldn't have been worth Disney effor to do anything particularly grand for DCA's 5th anniversary.
disney jones 02-21-2006, 11:22 PM So, DOES Disneyland allow substitutions of the sides on the meals that come with fries?i've subbed for Cole Slaw to corn and also beans before at the RBT on their BBQ platter.
here's another diet tip - avoid the Mouse Adventure picnic - as a whole, the Staff here makes some of the tastiest baked treats i've ever eaten!

Alex, did you mean to post in this thread (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showthread.php?t=53459)?
Drince88 02-22-2006, 04:18 AM In WDW, in addition to the carrots for fries, I've been able to sub cole slaw for corn on the coblets and beans at Flame Tree, and bean salad for fries at the ABC Commissary.
I was most interested in the subs for fries in the 'baskets' at the 'burger' type places.
millionairegirl 02-22-2006, 07:34 AM You can order burgers a la carte. I believe they deduct $1 from the combo price. It's not much, but if you don't want to eat the fries anyway, it's good to get them away! At Taste Pilot Grill they have a condiment bar where you can get extra lettuce, tomato, and onions to make yourself a little salad.
Alex S. 02-22-2006, 07:57 AM Yes, I did.
rentayenta 02-24-2006, 11:32 AM Good job! Now could you please WW Point it all out for me? :p
It was good read, had good advice, and lots of common sense.
