If you have to move this soemwhere else, ok by me I had NO idea where to put this.

They are ready have a movie theater and sports complex.

But as for a bowling alley..... not just any bowling alley. A 100 or so lanes with reservations and everything on Disney property and a disney restaurant. (with Disney style food) I would love to something like this in the works. They could even hold PBA events and tournements.

Also marketing- Pirates. I was sort of loss for words when I couldnt find Pirates of the Carribean poster for a long time. I dont mean the ones they sell now, but the original movie posters: Skeleton behind the ships wheel, and they didnt carry the NECO figures. Is there a merchandising rule I dont know about. Why couldnt Disney carry the McFarlane figs, its their movie.
Also on that note Series 2 will be out soon, they held back on the release. But will be out soon.
A card game and Pirate of the Spanish Main by Wizkids will have a expansion out for Pirates of the Carribean.
2 mini busts were to be out soon, but have not be released

Actually Disney used to own a huge bowling center with restaurants and such. It was part of the Celebrity Sports Center in Denver, Colorado.

This was a huge sports complex that was financed by a group of famous (the celebrities of "Celebrity") that included Walt Disney and his good pal Art Linkletter, among others.

Later, the entire venture was purchased by Walt Disney Productions (what The Walt Disney Company was called back then). They had quite a few major televised tournaments there over the years.

It was also used as a pre-opening training facility for Walt Disney World resort and hotel Cast Members. A whole lot of folks "cut their teeth" at Celebrity Sports Center before joining the WDW cast just before opening.

Disney eventually sold the property in 1979, if I recall. Don't know if it's still in operation or not.

Another much smaller Bowling Alley connection with Disney, is that one of the buildings of Walt Disney Imagineering (on Sonora Ave) is an old converted bowling alley that now houses offices and work areas. But they kept one of the lanes as such for Cast recreation. Haven't been in that corner of WDI in awhile, but I assume it's still there.

Interestingly, I had an email about this very topic recently. My reply was:

A quick web search shows that Celebrity closed down in late 1993 and was torn down in the late 1990s. It's now the site of a Home Depot.

I assume you're thinking of Wide World of Sports as a home for a major bowling alley or somewhere else?

If bowling were the televised presence it was two decades ago (or even a decade ago, when did ABC give way to ESPN for the weekly PBA tournament?) I might see a destination bowling venue working, but not so much anymore. I do think a moderately posh (but not 100 lanes or anything; that's just too huge, even the National Bowling Stadium in Reno only has 70-some lanes) bowling alley would be a good addition to Florida's Downtown Disney as it is a good family friendly activity for filling dead space around park hours.

Interestingly, that is one of the rumored replacements for the Rock 'n' Roll Beach Club.

Oh well. Another little piece of Disney history gone to the wrecking ball. Guess since the original Walt Disney Studios on Hyperion Avenue is now a Ralphs grocery store or something...a Home Depot is par for the course.

Thanks for the info! :)

I a was referring to the skeleton poster, first poster for the film. When teh movie first came out I was upset with the lack of marketing for the film, in their own park;expecting more from a company who markets everything.

As for the bowling, I was saying tournements as a climax. I was wanting to see a Disney like Don Carters. I was referring to 100 lanes becuase in Boca, they have 54 lanes and they are used consistantly. 100 lanes would work because of the number of people visiting Disney World. It would be VERY hard to get reservation for a hour with 52 lanes. Bowling is not a week sport per se, in the amateur/rec. area. Professional bowling was a stretch, i agree.

If any one checks Don Carters, check on Tamarac, who has 60 or so lanes. The lanes do not have to be side by side..etc. But two rows back to back, plus restaurants. Disney's cost is mostly up front: building it, pins, ball etc. plus maintenance.
They could sell WD (white dot) character balls, they already do this in fun league play for kids. (Incredibles) A Pro shop.
Restaurant

You figure the amount of people who walk downtown Disney dailey, a % of youth and young people like myself would want to bowl. A hour of standard bowling is about $20 an hour. Shoes can range from $3-5 PER PERSON

An hour of bowling not including food for a standard family of 4- $32 an hour, per lane times the number of lanes. Standard meaning came as a tourist, didnt come with own ball(s) and shoes.

Also- pool tables, sports bar area. Alot of options open up.

Marketing wouldn't only be for the kids, but the older/retired generation. They are the popular percentage of bowling leagues in south florida. I dont know demagraphics anywhere else (sorry)

Well, I will wait for questions/replies

That's really sad. When I lived in Aurora, CO I used to go to Celebrity all the time. I loved the waterslide and the massive amounts of video games there.
