I'd like to see how far you would have gotten with that attitude on September 12, 2001, when they closed Disneyland without prior notice.

If the park is closed there is no right of entry for anyone.
The discussion was never about special privileges for anyone, it was regarding the order in which DLR restricts entry on near capacity days. Some posters disagree with the Disney policy of AP holders having precedence over Parkhopper ticket holders. Other posters believe that PAPs should have blockout dates, a position with which I disagree.

The discussion hasn't been about adding blockout dates to PAP's, but whether or not PAP's have special privilge above and beyond that of a ticket holder.
Your first sentance re-inforces what I have been maintaining. If the park is closed, no one gets in.
Not if the park is closed you don't get in unless you have the right kind of ticket.

From what others have posted, DL has four levels of being closed. When it has reached the fourth level, no one gains entry. Some posters seem to feel that AP holders should be denied entry before Park Hopper holders are denied entry.
There was a suggestion that PAPs should have some restrictions, as do other APs. It was at that point I joined the discussion.

but... there are different levels of closed. And AP's and resort guests fall into highest priority and are the last to be denied entrance.

Thank you Rob. You said that much more concisely than I. :)

According to the order of who is denied entry when the parks nears capacity, APs and DLR guests are both denied entry when the crowd reaches phase four. Rob posted the list on page 6 of this thread.
Phase 3: Only resort guests and AP/PAP admitted.
Actually, this post has gone from "this is what I assume they do at DLR" to "Rob posted what they do at DLR" - from rumor to fact?
The original post (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showpost.php?p=787744&postcount=148) said: This is what I read that they do at WDW therefore I assume it's what happens at DLR.
WDW is a separate entity from DLR and has a very different demographic. WDW has different prices for children's APs versus Adult APs. WDW also has far fewer APs among their visitors than DLR does. WDW is much more at vacation resort while DLR is much more a locals resort.
Personally, I have never heard of a time that Disneyland closed to everyone except for Hotel Guests and APs. The last level before "Closed to Everyone" has been "Only Hotel Guests" in Anaheim everytime I've been told of park closures.
And I have yet to see any CMs or anyone with specific knowledge of DLR say that the WDW policy this is the same policy DLR uses.
So let's please remain clear that no one has confirmed that WDW's phase 3 is the same as DLR Anaheim's closure process.

that is why i said it is the WDW process and i was not sure what occurs at DLR.

Yes, you said that on page six but after that, through the discussion, it has morphed into "Rob said on page six that Phase three is to let Hotel Guests and APs into DLR".
Go read post 171 (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showpost.php?p=787910&postcount=171) and post 179 (http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/showpost.php?p=787994&postcount=179). The "at WDW" has been completely lost in this discussion. From the point you made your post, you said, "i would assume it is similar here" and the conversation continued with that assumption as fact and no effort to maintain that it was a grand assumption with little base in reality considering that there are a large number of differences between admissions policies in Orlando and Anaheim.

i apologize if people misread and assumed it was correct for DLR. I am aware in some of the differences of DLR and WDW. also i assume it is a situation that is less of a problem for WDW due to greater space and being able to, in many ways, make their own rules about more things as apposed to the scrutiny they recieve in anahiem.

I live in Tommy's country. Weinerschnitzel can't hold a candle to them. However, Tommy's doesn't have sauerkraut. It's a trade off...

The policy at DLR is the same as at WDW. I printed your page six post, went to DL and asked a CM. Stopped for dinner at Blue Bayou since we were there. :)

A matter of time until people start to camp out for admission into Disneyland mark my word.
Already happened - July 17, 2005.
FWIW, we were driving around Anaheim on Friday night at about 6pm to check into our hotel. Digital signs on various streets were saying that Disneyland was full but DCA was open. Don't know how long those notices were up or if they were also up on Saturday, but some people might have seen those, though obviously only if they were driving around Anaheim streets prior to entering a parking lot at Disneyland.

Darkbeer, all of those parking and traffic jam pictures from this morning you just uploaded are fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing them with us. It is just so nice to sit at my computer far from that madness and watch it as a spectator. I can not believe the traffic madness in and around Disneyland, and on the freeway just getting close to Disneyland!
Why, oh why, would anyone try to drag their family to Anaheim and shell out 220 bucks for tickets for four to spend just one day at Disneyland at this time of year is beyond me! Are people really that stupid? If they just did a tiny bit of research and postponed the trip for two weeks, they could make the same visit on a Saturday and have a dramatically better experience.
For me, I don't have that kind of money at any other time of the year except for Christmas time. I would think, during the Holidays----that's just when people have money to spend. Christmas bonuses, gifts----you are flush with cash unlike at any other time of the year.
I certainly don't have any money now, in January. February-March money will be taken up with birthday stuff. April is tax time, and I don't get much of a refund and usually pay in.
I wouldn't go during the Summer months because I can't take the heat.
I might have been willing to go in November, but they didn't have the decorations up till later in the month, and by Thanksgiving, I had a wicked cold, and was unable to do much of anything....into December.
Christmas-New Years week just works for me, logistically, and financially (mostly financial) in a way that other times of the year don't, especially when I save up for the previous 11 months.

I thought it fell depending upon your type of AP..
edited to add... ok, my bad. I obviously was confused and I offer my apologies! I just spoke with DLR and they indeed confirmed what RobGraves was saying about the levels to which DL "closes" ...my bad and I will keep my mouth shut until I actually read the entire thread!! LOL

You gotta go when you can, but I don't understand what you're saying here. DL is usually decorated, in full, by November 5th. It just so happens this year it was decorated in full by the 11th - hardly "later in the month".

How about saving that extra money for another month or so?

I could not go the week of Nov. 11 . I may have been able to go Nov 1. I always though the tree customarily is trotted out the day after Halloween.
January is a horrible month (for many reasons). I've got a bunch of bills to pay---car registration, property taxes etc etc etc. All my money is taken up with that. January is just not a month when I'm typically splurging, on anything. If anything I'm cutting back and trying to save up for Birthdays.
It just makes more sense to do it in December. And, I would think most people are in a more spendy mood, then.

but your spending the same amount of money if you do it in december or january... in fact you will probably spend less money if you go in Jan.
Stop making excuses.

I also believe that you stated that you stayed at the GCH, which is probably at its most expensive between Christmas and New Year's. The money you could save on hotel alone by going at another time of year would probably help you out. Or stay somewhere else cheaper?
I think what Rob is trying to say is also true. If you just keep that money sitting there until January and do not spend it in December, bills and things will not matter. The money spent will not be "extra", just different.
Plus, how do you know you are going to have a cold when you are making plans?
