View Full Version : MousePad really SLOW

The past few days I have been having trouble with Mousepad pages taking forever to load - like over a minute each page. I have a DSL line and am experiencing no problems anywhere else online. Is there something going on over there or is there some setting I can change to speed things up?

I also have been having issues with pages being blank (except for the header) when they are done loading. When you hit reload everything comes in fine. This seems more like a bug than anything and is irratic at best so I cannot share steps for you to reproduce. Just thought I would let you know.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Is there something going on over there or is there some setting I can change to speed things up? We had some server issues on Tuesday the 1st of November, but things have been fine since then. I suggest you clear your browser cache as a start and see if that helps.

Are you using an ad blocker, or a modified HOSTS file to redirect ad servers to localhost? I've seen the problem you describe in those situations.

Good advice! I will clear my cache and see if that helps.

Regarding the other issue - I AM using an ad blocker. I can work around that one too.

Thanks!:D

Also, it appears that Burst, one of the advertising services we use, is experiencing localized problems that result in pages loading very slowly (usually just the header shows and then eventually the rest of the page).

I did clear my cache and ran Spybot and Ad-Aware with no improvement. While I am waiting the 10 - 15 sec average for a page to load I see "transferring files from ads.mouseplanet.com" in my status bar. That plus the fact that the header loads first as you describe seems consistent with the trouble being with Burst. I hope they clear it up soon. Thanks for keeping me in the loop. I guess I am getting impatient with page loads in my old age. Remember in the 90's and before high-speed internet access when that was the norm?:geek:

Exactly what seems to be happening to me today. It just started this morning. Is there anything I can do from my end? It is driving me nuts!

As a MousePad subscriber, you can use the ad-free template which should skip trying to load anything from Burst. At the top of this page, click the "Quick Links" menu and select "Edit Options". This will take you to your personal Options page. At the bottom of the Options page is a selector for "Forum Skin"--select "MousePad - New Color/Logo - Ad Free" and click "Save Changes".

All the way at the bottom of your Options page is a block labeled "Miscellaneous Options". Inside that block are two selectors labeled "Message Editor Interface" and "Forum Skin".

Ruthie,

On my screen, it's all the way at the bottom, on the blue bar, on every page of the site.

On the right side of the blue bar it says: Contact Us - MousePlanet - Mod - Archive - Privacy Statement - Top

On the left side of the bar is a little pull down clickable menu thing. Click that and see if you have an ad-free option?

Adrienne

I am either blind or stooopid because I see the whole "Contact Us . . . Top" part (missing the Mod :p ) on the right hand side but I can see nothing on the left side of the bar. :(

Hey - do I need to upgrade my subscription to be ad free?

Thank you both for your help :)

Damn, I forgot. The "Premium Padder" level is ad-free but the "Basic Padder" level is not. I'm sorry for the confusion!

Also, I don't think regular (i.e. non-staff/non-moderator) Padders have access to the quick style switcher on each page.

Check your PMs for a possible solution.

This just shows that it definitely seems to be a regional thing. While I was having this problem big time yesterday I haven't experienced it once today.

I hope Burst solves it soon.
