View Full Version : Standing in line with a heavy infant question...
Poptart 11-08-2005, 06:09 PM Ok, so it's obvious I'm a first time mom AND bringing my infant to experience all the Disney magic for the first time at Thanksgiving. He's weighing in at 23 pounds already - how on earth do I stand in line for something like It's A Small World and holding the lil linebacker all the way? Can I keep him in the stroller thru the line? Is there somewhere to put the stroller at the front and easily find it after the ride?
Sorry, such a stupide question.:p
adriennek 11-08-2005, 06:16 PM You don't say how old he is. I assume he's not walking?
You can't take your stroller in the lines because the lines are too narrow and there is no place to store them once you get to the front of the line. When my kids were that size, they still fit in the Baby Bjorn so we used that to hold them in line.

Matt Hamand 11-08-2005, 08:04 PM What adriennek said. Use a carrier. I have a cheap Snugli that fits very nicely into the backpack I use as a diaper bag.
Also, you didn't say, but are you going to be alone? If not make your companions hold the baby some of the time. Share the burden.
Koala Gurl 11-08-2005, 09:50 PM I have the Bjorn Active, and it is great! (Though DD isn't quite a linebacker!) :)
She is about 17 lbs, and I carried her for quite a while and never got tired / sore.
Poptart 11-09-2005, 09:16 AM Thanks for the replies! I haven't tried the Bjorn in a while, I thought he would be too heavy, but for standing in line that sounds like a great idea. No, he isn't standing yet. He's 8 mos.

My boys didn't hit 23 lbs until they were over a year but we put them in the Bjorn until they were 12-18 months, so give it a try!

hlbtimes2 11-09-2005, 09:34 AM You might want to consider a sling type carrier, rather then one with leg holes. My son was big and heavy- and had HUGE thighs. The leg holes on tradition carries were always a bit tight. The sling worked much better for him. I had one sort of like this http://www.mayawrap.com/
annieb727 11-09-2005, 01:06 PM i was also going to suggest a maya wrap as well....they're WONDERFUL!
MsYumiBr 11-09-2005, 01:13 PM I'm going to chime in with the sling. I found the whole buckle/unbuckle thing with the Snugli cumbersome and the straps never seemed secure enough for me. For some reason the baby sling looked uncomfortable but the baby was very happy in it. Whatever you decide to do, try it out before you go. There's nothing like digging out the baby product you haven't used for a few months and find it doesn't work for you anymore while you are at the Disneyland parking lot.
By the way, this was my sling:

It had a cute foot print pattern in baby pink and pastel green.
Poptart 11-10-2005, 07:42 AM Sheeeeesh....I had a sling and sent it to a friend!
Koala Gurl 11-10-2005, 10:34 AM I have two unused ones (well, used to try & figure it out, but I never got the hang of them.)
hlbtimes2 11-10-2005, 03:02 PM If you need one, send me a PM. I have a nice, navy blue one. I'm done with it, and would love to it to have a good home.
Poptart 11-11-2005, 08:01 AM That's so sweet of you, I'm so touched. The one I gave away was navy blue too, I had thought after being a newborn, it was no longer usable. LAFFFF!!!
I got the Bjorn out and will try to use it. We have a couple more people going now, so we can all take turns playing Pass the Baby in line.
Thanks again!
lauramaynot 11-17-2005, 03:51 PM Yes, a sling is great. We used one almost exclusively on our last trip with an almost 1 year old. (our big kids took turns in the stroller:p ) The parents of the baby are going to buy one as soon as they get home. My sister (who we borrowed it from) still uses hers for her two year old so I guess as long as you can haul em' they will fit.
