Well, since most evenings I find myself sitting on the couch watching either the news, or the discovery/learning/history channel, I thought that I might as well be sitting on this:

Hopefully it will make a difference.

That's not a bike; that's an exercise machine. ;)

I went to a spin class once, and my observations were:
1. the class is too short compared to most bike rides
2. sweat is more apparent than on a real bike
3. you can't rock the bike when standing up
4. the music is too loud
5. the scenery doesn't change.

I'm lucky I live where I can ride outdoors year-round. I pity the poor guys who have to spend the winter on spin bikes and trainers.

But hey, it's still way better than sitting on the couch, eating and falling asleep in front of the TV. Just don't let it gather dust!

Hey TrekkieDad...do you know Principia bikes? I did some Marketing design work for their old U.S. distributor that was based here in SoCal. I didn't know anything about these racing frames and such, and when I first heard the prices they command...I about pooped my pants!

But even more amazing to me was when I was handed my first frame. I could not believe how light it was! Amazing. Like a feather. Same with a fully built-out bike. So light. Pretty incredible engineering and materials.

I was offered several freebies as they were trying to get me to become a rider myself. Guess I should have taken 'em up on the offer, thinking back on it now. Heck...could have eBay'd the darn things and made another couple of grand! ;)

They're not like my old clunker Schwinn 10-Speed Derailer...that's for sure!

No, I haven't heard of Principia, but there are lots of regional and boutique frame builders out there. Every now and then I see a name I haven't seen before. I did a quick search and found they are made in Denmark. (And high quality lightweight frames generally run in the thousands of dollars.)

My pride and joy is a used Serotta Colorado Titanium bike that I bought on ebay. And I felt lucky to get it for only $2000. New, it probably cost 2-3x that. Fully built up, the entire bike weighs 18 pounds.

Too bad you didn't take the distributor up on that offer. You could have built yourself a really sweet bike.

Good for you grundler! If I had the room (i.e. didn't live in a 1 BR apt.) I would buy an elliptical machine so I could work out while home. Here's to you keeping up with the workouts. :)
