That should be ok for a baby. I'm not sure about dark rides though, I mean would a baby be scared? jenjustinsmom 10-28-2005, 05:33 AM We took Justin when he was 11 months old. He went on all the rides where you just sit and look around. I found at this age he wasn't scared easily. He just looked around. We drove down (20 hours). We found Justin needed the first day to adjust. Make sure you take a squirt bottle to spritz your little one and keep him cool. I would also suggest you buy a backpack that has a cooler at the bottom of it. Bring baggies to make ice packs. We got ours at the local Canadian tire. We also found that Justin didn't want to drink his formula. We didn't push him, just gave him lots of drinks. You have such a great time. In someways it is better if they are walking and in other ways it is better if they are not. Have fun! tappenfeat 10-28-2005, 05:53 AM We took our DD when she was 9 months and we had a wonderful time! We made a lot of use out of the baby care center in the MK. It's so nice!!! Disney makes it convenient for you to take your baby places for changes and a lot of nice spots to find shade and relax. DD went on a lot of rides except the Haunted Mansion, we weren't sure if she would get scared or not. But, she did go on POTC and she was just fine. She enjoyed the "busy-ness" of all the parks as well. Not only did she receive special attention from the CM's and Characters, she got lots of special attention from people just waiting in line for a ride. You will have a GREAT time! Stitch1404 10-28-2005, 07:53 AM I traveled with a 9 month old last December during Christmas week and we still had a great time. I think you just need to know your own baby and what would scare them. For example, I swear this baby isn't scared by anything so we went on attractions like It's Tough to be a Bug that gets really loud and dark and he didn't so much as flinch. He also interacted with the characters who were so great with him. With the exception of maybe Snow White's Scary Adventure, I think you would be pretty safe in Fantasyland. Also, go see the shows. The baby we traveled with had great reactions during Beauty and the Beast and all of the parades. We didn't try fireworks though, thought that might be a little too much. Hope that helps! cocoabeach 10-28-2005, 09:44 AM It's interesting to read that so many others had the same experiences. Our daughter did so well on everything, even loud noises, that by the time we got to Universal Studios at the end of our trip, we didn't even worry about her to even the most intense movies there. She slept through the whole thing. Ha! As for some other practical experiences we had: my wife needed lots of cold water (all the walking around exercise and breastfeeding). Don't wait until you sit down at meals, buy a couple large water bottles (at resort store or airport or wherever) and keep them full. We would freeze ours each night (not all rooms have fridge). Also, you may have to get over squeemishness about changing the baby in public. The bathrooms were often so darn crazy that we had to just move the stroller to a discreet location (facing away from traffic) and changed her there. You probably already know this but we would recommend you bring your own stroller of course so that you can easily lay the baby down. The last thing I can think of was that you should look into getting the perfect diaper bag to fit your needs. Make it as small as possible and still be able to fit one full day of stuff in it and try to avoid putting every little emergency thing in it that you never use. The emergency and baby care centers have all that and you'll be really grateful when you have to grab the bags quick for something and don't have a huge sack to lug around. I'm sure you know how big the typical diaper bags are… justgeorgi 10-28-2005, 12:50 PM When my now 13 year old was a baby we made do with a few diapers, a change of clothes, wipes and sippy cup. She was off bottles EARLY thank goodness. We packed all of that along with a small keychain bottle of sunscreen, a hat and the cutest little sunglasses you ever saw into a stroller with a basket. The diaper bag we used was one of those fanny pack styles but bigger and worked great. We also had our camera, keys and extra film in the bag. She went on EVERYTHING except for the "mountains" and napped on Haunted Mansion. At that age I don't think they even know what a ghost is so the dark and the movement of the ride knocked her out. She loved the parades and characters at that age and ALL of the pics we have are of her back hugging the legs of characters. She was too little to listen and turn back towards us. We seriously pumped her up before the trip by watching Winnie The Pooh movies, Mickey & Minnie Videos and the Disney Planning videos. (Now you can just watch a DVD!) We also drove down from NY and since we had another event planned for a few days in Daytona by the time we actually got to Magic Kingdom she was ready and raring to go. Now 12 years later she has been too many times to count and we no longer need anything but suncreen and sunglasses, time flies. |
