View Full Version : Infant rides
MouseFaninQueue 10-06-2005, 08:22 PM So does anyone know which rides it's ok to take an infant (8 months) on?
In May we never really worried about it because we went as a HUGE group so there was always someone willing and able to look after the infant.
However, we are leaving to go back to DL 1 week from Friday but this time it is only going to be the 4 of us (wife, 3yr old daughter, myself and the infant).
Just curious as to which rides are ok for all of us to go on ie IASW and Pirates I know are ok .. but what about things like Haunted Mansion etc ...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thnx in advance...
adriennek 10-06-2005, 08:29 PM It's actually easier to take an 8-month-old on many rides than it is a toddler. They're still a little 'clueless' so they don't get anxious.
You can take an 8-month-old on any ride that does not have a height restriction. Roger Rabbit requires the child to be able to sit up alone but the last time I tried it with my baby when he was around that age, it was a little rough for him.
HM will be fine but it will be loud so prepare to hold your hands over his ears.
In my opinion, the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay is more intense than the regular ride. I'd be more concerned about the 3-year-old's reaction to the ride than the baby's. Neither of my older sons would have handled it well at all at that age. (The baby's still too young for me to say.)

PrincessAmie 10-06-2005, 08:57 PM Sophie went on all the rides without height restrictions. at 6 months she really liked the pooh ride. She became very animated when we were on the ride.
Just a funny little side note. We took my nephew on HM. He was about 4. He was talking in his sleep and started yelling "I Dooooooo!"
Have fun!
AcuraTL 10-07-2005, 10:07 AM My daughter was only 6 month old when we took her. She went on Dumbo, basically all the Fantasyland rides. Pirates of the Carribean. Haunted Mansion. Over at DCA, she went on the Hemlich ride. If you don't have one, get a Baby Bjorn.

Amen.

OK, I few people I know and like swear by other baby slings and that's fine and all. I'm a big fan of the Bjorn and so are our friends who also wore our babies in them at the parks.
JeffG 10-07-2005, 07:40 PM I'd only suggest getting a Baby Bjorn or similar sling if you #1 have a strong back, neck and shoulders, and #2 plan to visit on a day that is not overwhelmingly hot.
We tried a sling with our son and it just didn't work for us as my wife has back problems and I have neck/shoulder problems. In addition, during the brief time I tried using it (my wife didn't even try it), it only took a few minutes for me to become uncomfortably warm. It didn't take at all long for my son to return to the stroller...

AcuraTL 10-07-2005, 09:05 PM My back is not the strongest but when I use the Bjorn, I can do it for HOURS. Also, I believe they have a new one out with an extra back support. You have to adjust the Bjorn correctly so it won't hurt your back. I used it on both of my kids until they were 20 lbs.

I just got this one today. MUCH more comfy than the regular Bjorn. (Well, I have to caveat that by saying the reg. one we have is an XL for DH...maybe it doesn't fit me just right?)
Anway, it really helps take some of the load off the shoulders. I will be using it next week! :D
MouseFaninQueue 10-07-2005, 10:04 PM Yeah we don't have the bjorn ... but we have a Graco Snuggli which is pretty much the same thing and we used it for our first daughter. Between that and the stroller, we arent' worried about carrying the babe around.
The one problem we have thought about with the snuggli (Bjorn) is that it can be a pain to pull the kid out of it in time to get on the ride because some of the lap bars won't work with her in the snuggli.

My daughter is a bit strange. She loved the HMH overlay. She saw it for the first time 2 years ago when she was two. The movie was on TV right after that and she fell in love with Sally and Boogie Oogie (Oogie Boogie? - Green guy full of worms). Last October we had to buy dolls of all the characters. When we went in July she started crying when I told her that Jack, Sally and Zero would not be there. I explained they were on their vacation and she felt better.
Of course, she also loves the witch and flying monkeys from the Wizard of OZ.
Go figure.
MommyTo2Boys1Girl 10-08-2005, 01:21 PM There are so many rides the baby can go on. It almost would be easier to list what they cannot get go on.
They can ride any of the vehicles that go down Main Street. My 2 boys, even as babies, loved the double decker bus.
Tomorrowland-Space Mountain, Star Tours, and Autopia. My husband took our oldest on Astro Orbitor when he was just 10 months old, and he LOVES it today, at 4 years old.
Fantasyland-Matterhorn
Toontown-Goofy's and Gadget's
Adventureland-Indiana Jones, BTMRR
Critter Country-Splash
We have never taken either of our boys on HM. But a baby might not be as afraid as an older child.

The active Bjorn is WONDERFUL!!! In fact, I carried my son in it until he was over 20 lbs!
AcuraTL 10-08-2005, 01:51 PM I can get my kid out of the Bjorn in less than 5 seconds. Putting her on takes a little longer though. I will really miss it because my youngest is getting too big for it. I guess I'll just have to start carrying my little Beagle in it to compensate.
lauras5boys 10-08-2005, 04:20 PM Baby can also go on Buzz Lightyear. My 10 month old loves that ride with all the lights and such.
I personally like my sling better than a tummy carrier. I use the stroller but throw him in the sling for standing in line and riding the rides.
DadandFamily 10-14-2005, 07:59 AM A few days ago we took our 3 month old and 2 year old on the pirates of the caribbean (POTC) and both loved it. In fact, we got stuck just after bayou country and right before the first drop. We sat there facing the first water plunge listening to Dead men tell no tales! over and over again. The crew came to help us out and they turned on all the lights. One crew member told some jokes. It was great to see that area with the lights on.
Both my three month old and my two year old handled that and both water drops well.
Koala Gurl 10-14-2005, 11:07 AM Well, I went on Tuesday, and used the new Bjorn and I really love it. I had DD (7 months) in there most of the time (stroller ended up being for the backpacks & a nap!)
The active carrier REALLY is much better than the "original." I never got tired of carrying her. :)
Oh, and DD LOVED IASW and the Carousel!! We were only there a few hours (and also had to process our APs), so we didn't get too much time, but I can't wait to take her again soon! I really want to take her on POTC (OK, I really want to go on POTC! LOL!)
