View Full Version : MousePad Upgrade (merged)
We have completed an upgrade to the MousePad system. There are couple of changes you should be aware of.
- The Mark as Read is no longer based on your connection. Previously, if you were inactive on the Pad for longer than 20 minutes, all posts were marked as read. Now, posts will only be marked as read when you read them. (Unread posts older than 10 days will be marked as read automatically).
- Countdown clocks are not working for readers using Internet Explorer. We are working on correcting that.
Post here if you have questions.
Drince88 10-02-2005, 08:01 PM That's odd. Threads I read earlier today are showing as unread, and the 'go to new posts' button is going to some time who knows when, on threads I've read most of the posts.
So if I leave and come back 2 hours later, ONLY those threads I actually read will be marked, or is it just the 'staying on' 20 minute thing that goes away?

So if I leave and come back 2 hours later, ONLY those threads I actually read will be marked, or is it just the 'staying on' 20 minute thing that goes away?As far as I can tell, ALL posts / threads since September 23rd now appear as unread. The system basically reset. If you want to, you can mark ALL of MousePad as read by clicking on "quick links" at the top of the screen, then selecting "mark forums read." If you've read everything you plan to, you can also perform that function before you log out, so you won't be greeted with all of your "unread" posts when you return the next time.
If you read a thread and go away, only that thread will be marked as read when you come back. The rest of the threads will be marked as "unread" for 10 days, after which the system assumes you really don't plan to read them, and will mark them as read.
Basically, the "reset" period just increased from 20 minutes to 10 days. Some people (and you know who you are) will love this. Others will be annoyed to no end by it. But the good news is that you now have more than 20 minutes to catch up on MousePad before the system marks everything as read.

Drince88 10-03-2005, 10:33 AM Thank you for the clarification (I should have figured out the whole system just reset!)
Too bad you can't mark individual forums as read - or maybe I'm being obtuse again...
Edited to add: Yes - I'm being obtuse - in the forum menu in the upper right under forum tools, you can mark a whole forum as read
cstephens 10-03-2005, 06:31 PM I'm noticing that the new posts link doesn't update immediately. Previously, when I've posted something, and then I hit the new posts link, that thread shows up at the top of the list. Now, it seems to be taking a few minutes to show up.
Opus1guy 10-03-2005, 07:54 PM Maybe I just never noticed this before, but the page selector within a forum seems to go Page 1, 2, 3, 11, and then onward. Is this new or supposed to be this way?

RemainSeatedPlease 10-03-2005, 10:06 PM Just reporting that none of my vB codes are working or my smilies! They are just all grey and I cannot click on them.

I'm noticing the same thing. None of the edit window controls appear to be clickable on this version. I'm using Firefox 1.0.7 on Windows XP.

Alex S. 10-04-2005, 09:14 AM Unfortunately it seems to be a problem between vBulletin and Firefox 1.0.7. Everything is working fine for me but I'm still using Firefox 1.0.4.
vBulletin is working on it.
Crazy4DL 10-04-2005, 09:48 AM I can use all the smilies and such but I can not use ieSpell ??? anyone have any ideas - or should I have posted this in a different thread?
I unloaded ieSpell, downloaded the current version, installed it, it appears to work until I am in this type of a window - the window where you type in the message - obviously the one where I need it to work. Just for grins I tried it at MiceChat and it works. I have the same problem on my PC here at work and my laptop at home. I was using it fine until the upgrade.
So any clues or hints? am I the only one?
NEVERMIND!!!! I see the spell checker up in the righthand corner!! :p :D
I am a dork!!!
RemainSeatedPlease 10-04-2005, 03:52 PM Hm still grey, but they seem to be working now!:D
hbquikcomjamesl 10-05-2005, 12:42 AM The "Quick Reply" button appears to be broken in Mozilla 1.0.1 on my Linux box at home, and in whatever Firefox (for WinDoze XP) version I'm using at the office.
nursemelis374 10-05-2005, 09:57 AM I also have a question. When I use the new posts button, some of the threads do not even show up. I have to go into their area, like lounge or DL, to see them.
Leap for Joy 10-06-2005, 02:07 PM I'm using Netscape and few of the buttons are working for me. I can add a Post Icon, but no formatting or smilies or links in my text. When I click on one of the non-working buttons my cursor leaves the text area but nothing else happens.

What version of Netscape, and on what OS?

Oops, sorry I forgot to include that info!
Netscape 7.1, Windows XP Pro
Thanks!
MrsPooh 10-06-2005, 06:11 PM I have been having problems with the smilies since the MP upgrade. When I go to click on one, it does nothing. I also can't change fonts, or use the smaller/bigger sized fonts, none of the extras on top.
Now it works on my work computer, but not at home. Could it be a glitch in the system, or is it me?
I have been having issues with my computer, but I just had the hard drive replaced, so it should be ok.
Can someone help me?
Mark Goldhaber 10-06-2005, 06:24 PM What are your browser and operating system on each machine?
brazen wench 10-07-2005, 03:48 AM I keep getting logged out automatically after about 10 minutes. Sometimes when I try to submit a post, I have to log on again, and sometimes, when I step away from the computer, I come back to find that I'm logged out. I'm using Windows XP and IE.

That is normal with the upgrade. Unless you tell the system to remember you, you will be logged out after 10 minutes of inactivity.
brazen wench 10-07-2005, 07:28 AM Thanks, Tony! While you're here, can you advise about renewing subscriptions?
Thanks, Tony! While you're here, can you advise about renewing subscriptions?
To renew, simply go back to the Subscribe link at the top and re-subscribe. The system will add the time on to your existing subscription.
For the moment, the Credit Card system is unavailable (It will come back up next week), so all renewals will have to go through PayPal (though, you can use credit cards there).
brazen wench 10-07-2005, 04:08 PM I'm still having trouble using the Remember Me function, as it is not remembering between logging off and logging on at a later time. Do I now need to check the box everytime I log on?
If I forget to check the box, I get an invalid thread message.
