Disney rethinking broadcast? (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20051001-5373.html) -- 2005-10-01
Michael Eisner, as you may know, has stepped down as CEO of Disney after more than 20 years in the company. The CEO's chair will now be occupied by Robert Iger, and he's not exactly a drop-in replacement. Nay, Iger may be one of the better things to happen to Disney in a long time. If the name sounds familiar to you, it's probably because Iger was they guy who sounded the alarm for the theater industry by calling for a reevaluation of the timing of DVD releases: "I don't think it's out of the question that a DVD can be released in effect in the same window as a [cinematic] release," he said.

Rather than back down, Iger is pushing forward. Today's Wall Street Journal (subscription required) reports that Iger's new mantra is: "Consumers must be able to use Disney content whenever and wherever they want it." One option Iger is considering is online sales: if you can sell music over the 'net, then why not Lost, or Desperate Housewives?

Well that is interesting, to say the least. Not sure how I feel about this yet. A new wheel is being invented.
