It's been eons since I have used the rabbit ears and 'butterfly' (my term, but I think it fits) antenna on my TV - and thanks to Cox Cable STILL not being up in my area, I'm getting to practice trying to obtain half-way decent signals.

It's looking like I'll NOT be watching ABC tonight (Housewives and Grey season premiers :crying: ), as I can't get it to come in AT ALL - but it was coming somewhat earlier today. Is UHF worse in the evening than during the day? (kind of like the opposite of AM radio)

(NBC and ABC are on UHF, CBS and Fox are on VHF - NBC is probably the best station, so it's NOT that my UHF antenna isn't working)

I wonder if your evening interference is being caused by having lights on in the house. Most structure wiring doesn't carry a current until you flip on a switch. That current would then create interference. (In theory that is. I have no idea if it is enough to cause a loss in UHF signals. But it would be easy to try out. Just turn off all the lights.)

All I know is that in the pre-cable/satellite days when you got your basic television broadcast to you over a rooftop antenna...that Channels 2-13 here in Los Angeles (our primary stations which included the ABC, CBS & NBC majors) were in the VHF range...and all those oddball stations like Channel 28 PBS, were in the UHF range and required another oddball antenna but they never did come in very well.

Actually I think Channels 2-18 were in the VHF range, but we didn't have any broadcasters using 14-18 in this area back then.

I thought about the lights - and tried that. Around here ABC routinely broadcasts on UHF, and NBC is doing it temporarily through the PAX channel (I'm assuming some sort of damage to their equipment).

But it came in fairly clearly last night - too bad I'm not into Monday Night Football

You were correct the first time. VHF is channels 2-13 and UHF is 14-83.

VHF used to be 1-13... it never had anymore... then dropped channel 1...

UHF interference could be how far your from the POO (Point of Origin).. trees, or other tall structures... You might just need to get a higher antenna.. or get Satellite?? Dish includes local channels..

By the time I could get the satellite guys out, cable will be back. Besides, that's ONE MORE THING I'd have to take care of before storms come ashore. I have enough 'stuff' to deal with! But there are fewer trees to interfere now then a month ago!
