My sister just broke one rib and bruised two others. We are going to DL in 3.5 weeks. The doctor told her it would take 4-8 weeks to heal. Our last day there will be four weeks from the break exactly. She saw the xray and said it did not break in two but kind of cracked. Because there is no cast per say, does this limit her options at DL? We're not looking for any sort of GAC because she wouldn't need that, just sort of an idea of what she should avoid and what the consequences could be (i.e. reinjury or just a whole lot of pain.) I'm think Matterhorn is out- it is way too bumpy, but maybe Splash would be ok? Anyone have any experience with this?!

Sup going-to-Disneyland-in-3.5-weeks-buddy. ;)

Your poor sister! She should definitely ask the doc about consequences and the possibilities of re-injury, s/he can tell her more about that than we can.

I permanently smashed some of my vertabrae about 4 weeks before going to Disneyland once, and went anyway. Some of the more turbulent rides (Matterhorn, Big Thunder, Indy, Space) were awful. Things like Pirates and Splash were OK for me, but a tip if your sis is going to be riding is tell her to watch the other boats/logs and lean forward if they're going to bump. That saved my back loads.

Mostly she'll just have to take it a little at a time, depending on how she feels. Have fun on your trip!

If the bones have started healing and get jarred too much, they can reseperate and the healing will have to start all over. Did her doc say what her limitations were?

I would say stay away from ALL rides that have any amount of movement, because you never know what might happen, even on a ride that would seem to be benign. I'm sure this isn't the last time she'll be going to DL and I wouldn't want to see her injure herself more extensively.

Play it nice and safe now and save riding the rides for another trip.

She fractured one of the upper ribs. I guess it is cracked and not broken in two. She has an appt with her doc in about two weeks where she will talk to him. She went to Urgent Care when it happened and did not think to ask!!

I have cracked my ribs several times before and it really depends on how fast she heals and the amount of pain she is in when you go. By that time her pain level should not be very high. I am sure she feels like she is dying right now because it really hurts at first to Cough, Laugh, and breath!!! She will know what she can go on once she gets there because she will know how bad it hurts and what makes it hurt or she may be pretty much healed up by then. Best wishes to your sister!

ditto that she will know what she can do. I had my first rib removed a week after out last Disneyland trip and my only advice would be to avoid anything that would "bump" into the area that was injuried. I am finding that my body tells me when it is time to quit and I'm sure she will experience the same thing. She might actually have more trouble getting around and trying to keep from bumping into people than she will have with the rides. It might be wise to rent an ecv or use a sling so it signals people to go easy around her.

Well, we are back. Her rib must have healed because she said it did not bother her at all. She said it still hurt of she coughed but that was it. She had no trouble on the Matterhorn or Indy! It was a great trip!
