View Full Version : Babies at DL
seattlemouse 08-25-2005, 09:05 AM We're going to Disneyland December 13-17. We'll have our new 3 month old baby and our 3.5 year old son. My son will be big enough for most of the "big kid's rides." He'll be 42 inches by then. So that's good news, my husband and I can take turns riding on the big kid rides with our son while the other looks after the baby. My question is, what rides can we take a baby on? Do children have to be able to sit down, like on Winne the Pooh? Can we hold him in our arms on rides like POTC and IASW?
My sister may join us so that will help with baby watching and we're probably going to do concierge at Grand Cal, so that will help with naps and down time.
adriennek 08-25-2005, 09:26 AM Babies can go on just about any ride without a height restriction. Now, they have to be able to sit down on Roger Rabbit. I'm not sure what they ahve to be able to do on Winnie the Pooh. The last time I was on WTP, I was "spoken to" over the loudspeaker. Now, I had been on WTP 4 times in two days and this was my 4th trip. EACH OF THE FIRST THREE RIDES, I had let my baby stand to see and I was holding him tightly against me. The fourth time, apparently, I was a bad girl and got told to put him down. So I put him on my lap but under the lap bar and they didn't say another word. It had to be obvious he was on my lap because his head was almost as high as mine.
So they might allow lap seating but under the lap bar on Winnie the Pooh.
He'll be fine sitting on your lap for POTC and IASW. In fact, he might do better on POTC than the 3.5 y/o ;) He'll also be fine on Jungle Cruise and Haunted Mansion. I've often taken babies on boat rides still in the baby bjorn. And POTC and IASW are 15 minutes long so I've been known to nurse babies on those rides and I've had other MousePlanet readers tell me that they've done the same. :)

Any ride without a height requirement should be OK. My son went on Pirates and IASW at slightly under 3 months and was fine.

As long as someone is willing to watch the baby for the big rides you should be all right.
edited to add: Drats AK beat me to it. But no pictures.
rfaljean 08-25-2005, 09:35 AM We took our soon (for the first time) when he was 2 mos old. We took him on everything except the Mountains and Indy (of course). On Winnie the Pooh, the first time I kept him in the Snugli, but the second time I was told that he needed to face forward, so I just took him out of the Snugli and sat him in my lap, against my chest. For POTC, just be sure to hold him tight during the 2 drops.... I held him face to my chest with my hand on his back. Fantasyland should be fine-wouldn't take him on Dumbo and on the Carousel I'd ride a bench if I could...otherwise everything should be fine.
The Train and IASW are great for babies....not too sure about Buzz Lightyear, though (he was 14 mos when he rode that for the first time).
It's actually very easy to do Disneyland w/a baby. In fact, our new baby (coming in 5 wks) will be going to Disneyland at 2 months as well-looking forward to it).
Have a great trip!!!

First- the train! Another GREAT place to nurse. In fact, you could just keep going around and around if you wanted or needed to! Or to nap.
And I also totally agree that DLR with a baby is easy. I think anything between 2 months and 9 months even up to a year. Then they start to get harder.

lauras5boys 08-27-2005, 06:45 PM I keep my baby in his sling for most rides and have never been told to take him out. He's been on Pooh, Buzz. Pirates, HM and most of the Fantasyland rides.

I did this also...slings are great for rides. Don't forget the Jungle Cruise, The Tiki Room, Mark Twain river boat, and Its a small world...those are awesome rides with a baby. I also admit to taking a three month old through the haunted mansion - he was a hard sleeper and I don't think he has suffered any long term damage from it...
