View Full Version : If DCL Returns West in 2007...
Niwel 08-18-2005, 10:29 AM Will you go?
I'm seriously considering it. I know there's a huge price difference between the two coasts, but the thought of going on DCL again -- and not having to fly red-eye to do it -- is very appealing.
Thoughts?

I doubt we would go. Especially since we are looking seriously at the 11-night Southern Caribbean next year.
We are hearing a lot of rumblings about the Mediterranean in 2007, which we would definitely be on...

Oooohhh I'd do that!

Niwel, I *completely* understand the concept of not wanting to fly to Florida. That was the huge selling point for us. Not having to fly five of us to Orlando *or* deal with the issue of "I'm in Florida, so let's spend a week at WDW!" Even though the Mexico cruise was expensive, it still came out cheaper than flying us to Florida, cruising for a week, and going to WDW for a week.
Now that we've been on DCL to Mexico, we won't sail there again. I can see flying to Cabo for a long weekend, though; we liked it there very much.
Now, if DCL had West Coast itinerary, like the QE2's itinerary from LA to Hawaii....*THAT* would be tempting!
Tony...we should talk about the southern Caribbean trip.... :D

But being stuck on the boat for how many days???? I can deal with one at-sea day but more than that...oh no!!! We had a cruise like that and I couldn't take it.
Niwel 08-19-2005, 02:30 PM Usually the distance is 4-5 days... I'm a HUGE fan of sea days, and I know DCL would keep me entertained (either doing a million things or just hanging at the Quiet Cove Pool), but if you would feel confined you might want to skip it.
Mary Faith 08-19-2005, 07:15 PM Perfect West Coast Cruise on DCL would be Up to Alaska! I bet that would be more popular!

If the ships can handle the change in temperature... :)
only1mouse 08-20-2005, 03:53 PM Hi All:
Just got back from the West Coast cruise this morning. What a MAGICAL time we all had. We've already started planning our next one, but this time we are going to go out of Florida so we can see Castaway Cay.
From the gist I got on the ship, they plan on bringing back the ship in 2007, but nothing is "confirmed" yet. I've also heard Alaska is no go as Disney doesn't think it's kid-friendly enough (again, all rumors).
We loved Mexico, Cabo was the best. Still trying to get my land legs back. But the staff (Ian, Sanjeev, Alonso, Violetta, Travis, David to name a few) were all wonderful and made our trip so memorable.
Probably wouldn't do the West Coast cruise again the next time around but a vacation to Cabo would be WONDERful!!
Karen it was a pleasure meeting you and Kenji, I'll send you a PM in the next day or so. We made the early flight out of LA so we didn't have to wait around LAX for 7 hours.
Melissa
Sanjeev!!!! He was our head server on the Magic last fall!

Karin 08-21-2005, 03:22 PM Melissa, Kenji and I really enjoyed meeting you and your family, too! I was so glad we were able to find each other and arrange to meet since I don't think I saw you guys any other time on the ship! That place was so big it's no wonder. (no, Karin, it's the MAGIC! ha ha ha, I crack myself up sometimes!)
We did bring back some amazing and incredible insider news! Kenji went to a seminar while on board this past week where they were talking about the inner workings of the ship and then they had a Q&A. Many people asked about whether Disney was talking or doing anything yet about another ship. The Captain said he could tell them the name of the next ship. Are you ready??? Can you stand the tension???? (drum roll, please...) It's called.... the Disney Rumor! That made everyone laugh and he said he hasn't heard definitely one way or the other yet as nothing's confirmed. Since the dollar has taken a dump against the Euro, it's not really feasible financially just now.
On the note of our cruise this past week... it went much too fast! We had sooo much fun. We actually took advatage of their 10% off offer if you booked your next 7-night cruise while you were on the current one. Soooo... the weekend after Thanksgiving 2006 we are booked into the Eastern Caribbean Cruise. We chose that because it actually has *more* at-sea days than the Western Caribbean one. We both agreed we really enjoyed the at-sea days. There's so much to do on the ship that we were so busy and liked it so much. Having been to Castaway Cay previously, we also decided that one day was plenty there. We would maximize our time there and really not need to go back 3 or 4 days later again. Although, don't get me wrong, we really enjoyed it, but also felt that once a trip was enough for us. We're also eager to see what they annouce as definite for the 2007 itineraries. If we like something enough, we will definitely push our Nov. 2006 booking into '07 and onto a cool itineary. Not sure we'd do Mexico again, though. We were so pleased with this one, but are ready to explore other desitinations now!
The veradah was so much fun in our Cat 5 cabin. If you have the funds available, we highly recommend it! We've been in an inside cabin on DCL, had a cabin with a large porthole on a different crusie line and now think it'll be impossible to go back to either of those. Being able to step outside and watch the ship pull into and out of port was great! Being able to step outside and see what the weather was going to be like before deciding what to wear for the day was invaluable. Especially in super-humid Mexico!
The verandah and the fact that I won the 3rd to last Bingo jackpot on the last day which totalled just over $650 really topped it all off perfectly!
Whhheeee!!!!
Can wait for Nov. 2006! Ready to start my coutdown clock now!
cubsfan 08-21-2005, 04:34 PM Yes! West Coast cruise to Hawaii....we're there! My husband hates to fly, so this would be very appealing.
Disneyland4Jamy 08-22-2005, 04:53 PM Only1Mouse,
Is Captain Tom still on board the Magic? He was our Captain a few weeks ago. I read that the people who sailed earlier this summer had a different captain.
I agree that staff member Ian adds a lot of magic and zaniness to a cruise! That guy has a TON of energy!
Here's to exciting cruises for 2007!!

Yes, Captain Tom was still onboard, and it sounds as though he's taking the ship back to Florida from the live posts I'm reading.
Ian is absolutely amazing, my son had the best time hanging with him and he was so energetic and fun loving - what a great hire he was for Disney!!
Yes, 2007 - we've decided we're doing a 4 day just now have to wait for the dates to come out.
Just be glad that you are not on the return Panama canal trip. They had to cancel Cabo San Lucas today because of 20-30 foot seas.

I don't have the QE2 itinerary in front of me, but as I recall, it was three at-sea days to get there, and three to get back. Three days going around the islands and one day at Ensenada (??) before being in LA. (My hubby speculates the Ensenada day is for the duty-free shopping...)
I don't know...I rather think I'd like three at-sea days...

Oh dear!! That's rough! (ahem....)
