My husband and I are staying at GCH for a week in Sept. and I have the feeling that my husband might get a little tired of Disney 5 days in a row...(im the true Disney fan) so here is my question... should I take him to Knotts berry farm for one of the days? We do have an extra day with nothing to do ...and how do I get us there from GCH? Has anyone done this and was it worth it,or is there something else out there that is better?

If you've never been to Knotts before it's a fun visit. Hopefully you won't have school groups there. We got REAL tired of waiting in long lines with screaming kids - especially after being at DL where it's nice and clean.

Ghost Rider has got to be one of the best roller coasters around. It's super fast and a blast. The western side of the park (to the left of the entrance) is my favorite. The right side is the kid area (Camp Snoopy I think it's called) and the back has some newer thrill rides.

If you want a more relaxing day, you can always do something like the beach then hit Medieval Times (http://www.medievaltimes.com/) which is located just across the street from Knotts. It's not cheap, but a lot of fun if you've never seen it.

Here are directions to Knotts Berry Farm (http://maps.google.com/maps?spn=0.090355,0.117090&saddr=Disneyland,+Anaheim,+CA+92802&daddr=8039+beach+blvd,+buena+park,+ca&hl=en) from Disneyland.

Just keep in mind, that Knotts has a completely different feel about it than Disneyland. At DL, everything is clean, fresh and themed. At Knotts, the feel is more similar to a carnival atmosphere.

I say it depends upon if your hubby likes amusement parks in general or has the same feeling about them as he does about disneyland.
I think a good alternative would be to go to Universal Studios and take the tour there, if you haven't been there before! It is a lot different than another amusement park. If he is just not so into disney and loves roller coasters than by all means go to Knotts!! Its great!
I also second a vote for medievel times! It is so much fun!!! If you have never been there I would try to go one evening, even if it is during on of your disneyland days! I am happy I went! Our section got the bad knight and I think it made it even more fun!! ;)
Have a wonderful trip!!! :D

Keep in mind Knott's is a LOT closer to DL than Universal is. I disagree that Knott's is more of a carnival atmosphere (I'll save that criticism for Paradise Pier). Knott's has history, a terrific ghost town and some fantastic coasters. They've got a couple of great wet rides, and the Mystery Lodge show is cool. Try to go during a weekday, the summer weekends are crowded, like everyplace else. Have fun whatever you decide!

It's the restaurant that built the park!
We always go for lunch; the crowd is much smaller.

The left side is Ghost Town. The original themed land BEFORE dland ever came around. Theres also Indian Trails, Camp Snoopy, Fiesta Village, Boardwalk (used to be roaring 20s), and Wild Water Wilderness. I do agree with the point of if he likes amusement parks or not. Knotts has turned into a teen hangout. So be warned. There are a lot of thrill rides as well as other rides you can go on. Universal Studios is fun to go to, long drive, but worth the trip. Theres Magic Mountain, but thats an even longer trip. If you don't want to do any of them, I'd say save the money and relax one of those days. Go down to the beach, or do some shopping or something. Relax by the pool. There are a lot of attractions here in Southern California that doesn't necessarily take money to get to or to go to. Go to one of our fabulous beaches and see a movie in the evening.

Growing up, we visited Knotts as often if not more than we visited Disneyland so it's got a special place in my heart. While it has changed dramatically over the years and become more of a "thrill ride" oriented park, it still has tremendous personality. The ghost town area, including the Log Ride and Calico Mine ride, is great and ghost rider fits right in with that area. I highly recommend going, especially compared to driving up to Six Flags. It's a long drive and can be a nightmare with So. Cal traffic. SF can be a fun park, packed full of some of the best thrill coasters in the world but it can also make for an exhausting (and nauseating) day. If you don't want to do Knott's, I'd suggest Universal Studios before Six Flags.

Anyone who does not like Disneyland will NOT like Knott's Berry Farm.
(I mean, if they do not like the best theme park, then they certainly won't like the lesser theme parks.)
So, if you really do have an extra day, I would recommend A NON-THEME PARK LOCATION.

The first places I think of when I think of vacation spots that are not amusement parks is probably this:

1. Grauman's Chinese Theater. -- Hollywood Blvd. and the walk of stars (and the El Capitan theater, owned by Disney), and the nearby Hollywood Wax Museum and Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum is certainly a change from DL/DCA/Knotts. There is (constant!) opportunity to take a tour of the homes of the starts in Beverly Hills from that point, from countless tour groups. Walk across the street for the Roosevelt Hotel, which has a history of its own. A few blocks west is Tower Records. Blocks away is The Comedy Store and the Laugh Factory. You will see the Capital Records building as you drive up down the boulevard. Keep driving toward UCLA to see Dead Man's Curve famous in the song by Jan & Dean. Sunset Boulevard has the Sunset Grill (as in the Eagles song), Whiskey A Go Go (a regular gig of the Doors), and The Roxy. You will pass the Virgin Records store which USE TO BE Shwab's Drug Store, where some actress was "discovered", and where the bank Washington Mutual is now used to be the Gardens of Allah, where Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, and countless writers used to stay when they were working in Hollywood. Nearby is the hotel where John Belushi died. Nearby is the Polo Lounge in the Beverly Hills Hotel (or is it the Beverly Hotel? -- I get mixed up).

2. Santa Monica Pier. -- Some people like boardwalks. It is certainly a leisurely way of spending a day. The well known shopping area, "Third Street Promenade" is close by.

3. Exposition Park -- The Los Angeles Coliseum is located in Exposition Park, but the real attractions are the rose garden, and the museums, of which the one I like best is the Natural History museum, but the Air & Space museum is probably more impressive. There is a science museum and an African-American museum. Oh, the IMAX theatre is next to one of the museums. The Universty of Southern California (USC) is across the street.

4. Tour a real studio -- Sony Studios (formerly M-G-M) offers tours. Paramount Studios, a couple of miles away, offers tours. Warner Bros. Studios in the San Fernando Valley, offers tours. NBC Studios in Burbank offers a tour. Universal Studios has a tour, but it is very less "insider" than the rest of the studios.

My point is, if you spend 3 or 4 days doing a theme park, then do a non-theme park location as your off-day.
