View Full Version : Parking ECVs at Disneyland

I'm glad I saw this forum before I stupidly posted in the main DLR forum! I was in Disneyland in July and managed to do a number on my achilles tendons. Although my longtime doctor pleaded, bargained, and threatened, I'm going back in September anyway. (Seriously, how can a person NOT go to Disneyland when given the opportunity?)

Since I'm not supposed to do too much walking and my family and I are hardcore Fastpass powerusers who think nothing of criss-crossing the park all day, I figured I should rent an ECV. I mostly just need it for getting from one attraction to another all day; walking through and standing in lines should be no problem. My question is, do I just park it in stroller parking while I'm in line/on a ride? If so, can anybody tell me what the stoller parking locations are? Basically, I just don't know what to do with the darned thing.

Edit: I should add that I don't want to use any special assistance passes, special wheelchair lines, etc, and get in the way of others who need those things far more than I do. I'm perfectly fine, I just need to cut the usual 20miles of walking down to 5 or so. ;)

I think you can park them where you park strollers with no problems

Neato, that sounds easy and painless (ha). Now, does anyone know how much they are? Watch, my entire pin budget will be blown on a dumb ECV. :(

I think it a 20 dollar deposit and to rent maybe 30 buck. If you need to know call 1 714 781-4000

I'm not sure about DL, but at WDW the price just went up. The initial payment remains at $40, but the refund on return dropped from $10 to now $5.00.

If you are going more than one day and staying at one of the Disney hotels it may then be worth your while to look into an off-site rental, which (at least at WDW) tends to have better scooters at a better price, as well as they are available all the time.

If you will be there more than 3 days, it makes more sense to rent from a local company (Alan's Wheelchair was charging $125 a week for ECVs. Check out http://www.mousesavers.com/otherdl.html#scooter ) You might even be able to get your doc to write a script and have your insurance pay for it. Hope this helps.

Wow, thanks so much for the tip. My dad is now all excited; he's looking forward to using my ECV to haul his junk around. Has anyone here ever used Alan's Wheelchairs before?

I haven't used that one but have used a couple others and the bonus for renting outside the park is you can use them to get back and forth to the hotels. Another issue is the ones in the park are very very ‘geared’ down and so aren’t as powerful getting around the parks. They do make it easier on the rest of the party cuz you become the party wagon hauling all the spoils...the backpacks and snacks/drinks on the way over and the souvenirs on the way back to the hotel. Be sure to take the key out every single time you park it to go on an attraction to reduce the temptation for someone to borrow it. The CM's can unlock the wheels and move them without the key if they have to, granted it is easier if they have the key but as long as you're considerate and park in a stroller area you shouldn't have any problems.

MamaSilva, I was hoping to ensare you in my little thread of annoying questions. :D Do you remember by chance what rental services you've used in the past?

In addition, can anyone help me out with a general list of stroller parking areas? It's just one of those things I never really paid attention to, and I'm very obsessive-compulsive and like to know every possible thing I could ever need to know before I go to Disneyland. The vauge list I can come up with off the top of my head is:

* Outside POTC
* Between Haunted Mansion/Frontierland train station
* Buzz Lightyear fastpass area
* That huge wall of strollers in Fantasyland
* Hyperion theater

I don't have the name handy but I'll dig it out of my journal in the next few days and post it. I do know that they were awesome, they delivered it to the hotel before we arrived and I left it in the office and they picked it up late the day we left AND it was signficantly less than renting from the parks. and had 3 baskets and a headlight!

There's one by Hungry Bear and Pooh.

Is the huge wall in Fantasyland the one by Small World and the entrance to Toontown?

There's a wall of them by Autopia.

There's one in front of Jungle Cruise.

Those are some that come to mind in DLR.

THREE BASKETS? I better not tell my dad or he'll have me so loaded down with stuff that the poor thing will be just putt-putting along.

Adrienne, thanks for the extended list. :D I figure I'll just be a good little lemming and do what everyone else is doing.

Be prepared for a long healing time! I tore my Achilles Tendon Dec, 2004 and it is still healing. Do yourself a big favor and get a short walking boot. This will help in the walking and will isolate the ankle for better support and healing time. If you don't already have one, you can go online and order one. I ordered one and it's really, really nice. It was $85 before tax and shipping $95 with everything added. Good Luck! :D

Thanks for the info, TinkFan! You have good timing, as I'm going to see the doctor tomorrow and will ask him about this. I'm also going to meet him in the middle and attempt to not walk too much, so I'm making a list of fun things that I usually don't have time to do! So far I have:

* Main Street Cinema
* See Asimo at Innoventions
* Stalk PUSH (if he's out and about)
* Shop in New Orleans Square
* Animation Building
* 50th Exhibit at the Opera House
* Poke around Main Street
* Park by the RoA and ogle the canoe boys :p

That's a good idea. When you go to the Dr. make sure to ask for the half boot because it's specifically designed for ankle and foot injuries. The full length boot is too cumbersome and gets in the way. Good Luck! :D
