View Full Version : A new mouse for us Mac users! DisneylandForever 08-02-2005, 11:59 AM How many of you guys are gonna pick this up? Mighty Mouse (http://www.apple.com/mightymouse/) I am sooo getting one. JeffG 08-02-2005, 09:31 PM Wow, Apple finally has come up with such radical concepts as having multiple buttons and a scroll wheel... -Jeff Bill Catherall 08-03-2005, 08:47 AM I think the novelty is that the "buttons" are touch-sensitive. There are no actual "clicky" buttons. I imagine this might be more difficult to use though because it might trigger more false clicks and could become annoying. But I'd have to actually try it to know for sure. Lani 08-03-2005, 09:38 AM Wow, Apple finally has come up with such radical concepts as having multiple buttons and a scroll wheel...Yup, my thoughts exactly. Although I've been a Mac user now for well over a decade, one of the things I've always done when purchasing a new mac is to buy a REAL mouse. Although it won't come standard in a new Mac package. Apple thinks the regular mouse is fine for most people, and that the new mouse is an upgrade. JeffG 08-03-2005, 07:04 PM From what I read, this new Apple mouse will be compatible with Windows PCs as well, in case any non Mac users think they would prefer it. -Jeff Stupid_American 08-03-2005, 07:26 PM From what I read, this new Apple mouse will be compatible with Windows PCs as well, in case any non Mac users think they would prefer it. -Jeff That would be over the standard Mac mouse. mrcoffee 08-03-2005, 08:50 PM From what I read, this new Apple mouse will be compatible with Windows PCs as well, in case any non Mac users think they would prefer it. -Jeff It does not fully work with XP, and no drivers for XP {Yet..} Second paragraph on this page (http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/mightymouse.ars/2). Thomas adriennek 08-03-2005, 09:47 PM Ok, you want irony? I have a two button and scroll-thingie mouse I use on my Mac. The one program that it doesn't work with? Virtual PC. I can do the basic point and click but the scroll thing and the right click don't work when I'm working on my database software in windoze. Adrienne Andrew 08-03-2005, 11:22 PM Want to see what's inside the Mighty Mouse? Ars Technica has voided their warranty (http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/dissect.ars) so you don't have to. We all knew it was going to happen eventually, so we decided to beat our crazy, Domokun-loving friends across the pond to the punch and perform invasive surgery on our brand-new Apple Mighty Mouse. I'm afraid there's no chance of recovery—it's dead, Jim. First, it's important to note that if you decide to take your Mighty Mouse apart, do so at your own risk and be very aware that the process may involve breakage and/or sawing, so there's no turning back once you get started. stan4d_steph 08-05-2005, 06:43 AM Want to see what's inside the Mighty Mouse? Ars Technica has voided their warranty (http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/dissect.ars) so you don't have to.That was a cool article. I got lost with the whole "button event" bit though. Anyone want to explain what the heck they're talking about? Bill Catherall 08-05-2005, 08:50 AM If a finger is even barely touching the "left button" and you try to do a right-click it will register as a left-click. So in order to do a right-click you have to make sure your finger is nowhere near the left button. They also discovered that you don't even have to have your finger on the right button, just click with "no fingers." All the mouse is looking for is a finger on the left button during a click. If Left_Finger == True then Left_Click() Else Right_Click(); ;) |
