View Full Version : Disneyland on TV and the Disney Channel
HorizonsA 08-02-2005, 11:17 AM I was reading the article about the Disney Channel and Disneyland being on TV. Why didn't Disneyland get the attention that it did 50 years ago. Why didn't they bring a large telecast to the Park. On Opening Day of Disneyland, ABC produced the largest telecast in history to document the historical event. Now, being 50 years later, why couldn't ABC do the same? All they did was give it a one-minute salute on the six o'clock and eleven o'clock news. This was Disney history and they just passed it by as if it were no big deal.
And I have noticed that the Disney Channel has gone way downhill. I remember watching those classic shows like "Mousercises," and "Welcome to Pooh Corner." Now, they've turned, what used to be a family network, into another kids channel, like Nickelodeon, as the article mentioned. They keep putting on these (in my opinion, stupid) shows like "That's So Raven" starring that brat who apparently is "19, so I don't go to Disneyland, I go to Six Flags;" "Lizzie McGuire" starring Hilary Duff who can't take a little joke. I laughed so hard when they made fun of her on SNL. She got mad becuase she thought it was unfair that they make fun of people that way. Oh come on! She was only mad because they made fun of her. "Even Stevens" is kind of lame too. And what is it with these Disney actors that all of a sudden think they could sing. Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, that girl from Even Stevens, that show-off from "That's So Raven." Why has the Disney Channel turned into another Nick/WBKids network?
The only real classic Disney we could ever see on TV is Toon Disney, minus that dumb "Jetix" thing they have.

I thought suspending belief was more for the cartoon genre! but all shows now on disney channel are like one big slapstick cartoon!!!! I really loved vault disney! & seeing programs like disneyland after dark,MMC,& other vintage programs! they need to do something for the older audience!!!! I don't watch it much anymore! watching "that's so raven!" is taboo in my household!

Skunker 08-02-2005, 11:40 AM I feel the same way! Everytime I flip to the Disney channel, I mourn the passing of what it was when I was a kid - great classic Disney movies and cartoons.
I remember the first time I went to DL and rode HM, I was like "oh, I've seen that ballroom scene on the Disney channel Halloween specials!!!" I was so excited because it was such a part of my childhood. Now what do kids have? All these preteen dramas? Gesh...
Bring back the Disney channel of 15 years ago!! he he
Disneyfun 08-02-2005, 11:46 AM Being a mother of a four year old all I can say is thank God for the DVR. Our satilite version of tivo?
The "good" shows for my daughter are on starting at three am! I tape them and then when she gets home from preschool if she want to watch something we actaully have something she can watch. By the time we get around to watching tv there are only the shows list above. And I am sorry just not suitable for a 4yr old.
I realy enjoy the playhouse disney shows they are something the family can watch together. I do wish they would bring back some of hte classic stuff. I would much rather watch and have my children watch old Oringal mickey mouse club then this stuff they have on now!
But unfortunetly this is what the kids like to watch and unless there are parents that stop their children form watching them then they are not going to change it.
BWthespian 08-07-2005, 05:08 AM yep the mickey mouse club was super cool coming(coming from a 17 yr old i know thats weird) and i liked all the technicolor episodes of zorro, and i remeber seein a special on the haunted mansion with that actor guy and the osmonds....me not bein of that generation ofcourse, disneyland in the 60's was a very surreal place, nuthing compared to what im used to today lol
SteveK 08-08-2005, 12:33 PM On a more general note about some of the past Disneyland shows, Disney is clearly missing the boat by not releasing them on DVD. It was great that they released the Disneyland DVD as part of the treasures set but the 50th anniversary was a perfect time to put together multiple DVD's of the old shows that highlighted Disneyland. We got a great 6-CD set so to me the obvious counterpart would have been a DVD release. Beyond these old DL shows, I'm assuming/hoping they did some filming of past parades, shows and most importantly...rides. I'd love to get Disney produced DVD's with America Sings, Carousel of Progress, Mission to Mars/Rocket to Moon & Adventure Thru Innsespace, etc. These would sell like crazy both in the park and outside the park IMO.

That actor guy is Kurt Russell-And yes the Disney Channel has gone downhill because of no more Vault Disney. With Vault Disney on the Disney Channel they have programming for all ages of Disney fans and with the current programming they only have programming for tweens and kids. I myself enjoyed the 70's weeks they did featuring my beloved mouseketeers of The New Mickey Mouse Club (1977-78) as well as the old Wonderful World of Disney episode titled The Mousketeers Go To Walt Disney World.
