Can you believe it? It's August already. Good work if you are still sticking to the diet and/or exercise plan you comitted to in January! If you joined us later, that's good too.

OTOH, if you are a backslider, there is no time like the present to get back on course.

I am still avoiding red meat and high-fat foods, though I'm not watching weight. I continue to ride my bike about 250 miles/week while school is out. The mileage will drop to about 120/week in the winter. (But I'll compensate by eating less.)

Time to hear from the rest of you!

Okay, I'm back in. Last week I decided to do another Ironman Triathlon. This time, I'm looking towards Ironman Florida in November 2006. Since the WDW marathon, I've basically been sitting on my butt and getting fat, so I'll need to lose about 20 pounds and get in shape. The first few months will be base building, slow longer runs/swims/rides to get back into it. Hopefully I'll be able to sleep well enough to get up in the morning for workouts before work (I've been fighting a bout of insomnia lately).

Wish me luck!

Heeellllllooooo August :p

I've just been faxed my month of August training schedule and this evening when I get home I'll be sinching up my sneakers. I've got a 1 hour work out at 6 min. running/3 min. walking to do :) Back to reality tomorrow morning ... I find that I am "best" first thing in the morning, which means getting up at the crack of to early! I'm going to be transitioning into longer runs, 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 hours. I've got to shower, dress, get the two boys dressed and fed, find the dogs collar and stick him outside. All this by about 7:20 am. I guess it's back to setting the alarm at 5 am  Once school starts at the end of this month my husband will be able to get the boys ready and on the bus around 7 am, even if I am still out running - so that might make things a bit easier.

I'm building up to a 6 mile run on the 27th of August...I'm skeert :D But I can do it! I've got some pool workouts this month, as well. And a massage for the end of the month! Yippee!!!!

That's right -- 73 miles. That's what my bike computer read when I got home. I was only expecting to do the usual 55 or so, but it was cooler today, and everyone felt like going a little farther.

I should be tired, but I'm not.

Where do you get your training schedule from?

My cousin is a Personal Trainer (luckily for me not a run-of-the-mill trainer, but a very knowledgeable one. She's competed in the Miss Fitness circuit, is a rep for a equip. company and at one time had a very busy career as a personal trainer. She's done marathons and trains people for marathons and has a college degree in nutrition and personal training. She makes me sick!!!! ;) ) who has been BEYOND helpful. She outlines my training every month, and faxes it to me. Now that they have moved East, they are only about 2 1/2 hours away, so we get together as often as we can to run together and she re-evaluates me. She is doing the 1/2 marathon with me in january, too. She's taken me from 70 lb. overweight slob who never moved that much to what I am doing today. 20+ lbs. lighter and able to walk up a flight of stairs without need for oxygen! She also helps me with what to and what not to eat!

Which brings me to today's progress....today's schedule was 5 min. warm up and 6 min run, 3 min. walk, repeating for 1 hour and 15 min. I did it, it wasn't pretty, and I'm by no means fast, but I did it. Just this month I'm going to start to get into longer runs.
Time to get serious :D

Tomorrow, the same thing. Friday - Off day!

Well, I've dropped another 1 1/2 lbs in addition to the 7 3/4 lbs I lost last week. Going well, and keeping me happy. I really miss oj right now though.

Excellent! I crawled outta bed this morning and went on my way...if ever there was a day when I didn't feel like it, it was this morning. Thank goodness tomorrow is a "off" day

Keep up the good work everyone. Tomorrow is my off day, too. Today was 28 miles, 1900'. Saturday's ride will be new roads for me--looks like fun.

Well I've been back exercising for a little over 2 weeks now. I was so good up until October of last year, then I got involved in a show I was doing and never got back to exercise until now. I've been doing my Beachbody DVD 6 days a week, and even exercised when I was on vacation this week. I'm determined to stick with it this time, it's a little competition between myself and my husband.

it's Saturday morning. I got up with the intention of doing a 5K(for me - around here - that means timing myself  ) but it's raining, I have a bit of a headache....excuses excuses...

of course, it means I will just have to carve out time later today - I'm waiting for the time when I want to do it, when I look forward to going - when it becomes "natural".

OK, spill the beans: Did you get out and do your 5K? I got in 53 miles on the bike today. The morning was wonderfully cool--afternoon on the hot side. I am still replacing fluids.

oh gosh - you know what? no I didn't...it's actually STILL raining here. However, the sky is getting lighter. I'm going to head over to our farm and do my walking lunges. Then do some jogging. If I don't stick to the schedule it's dang near impossible for me to get going again.

Did have a discussion with my husband yesterday about getting him a bike. He's physically active, but doesn't run/jog/walk with me. Thought we'd get hima bike and he and the boys could join me on some of my jogs. He seemed open to it! We may go out later today or early this coming week to get him one.

Oh - and I got new sneakers yesterday :D

Did my "thing" today - which was jog 1/2 mile. Do 60 walking lunges. Jog 1/2 mile, do 60 walking lunges

Man do I feel those lunges!

Went for a long bike ride today, well it was about 3 hours. I biked 1/2 hour to the coast to meet a group, we then biked from Oceanside to Leucadia before turning back to the Harbor. Then I biked 1/2 hour home. My legs are feeling it. Gotta build up that base back up. And here I am, unable to sleep, :(

I also got my first training schedule from my coach. It's basically base building for the bike and run. Swimming will come later, though I'm sure I'll be in the pool a bit.

Hi all. Went to work out this morning, was going to do the treadmill instead of outside on account of the heavy fog/drizzle. So when I get over to the farm I find the A/C is broke in the room...so....I did some lunges and a lot of stretches and I'll go out this afternoon/evening and do my hour. Hopefully Eric will have the fan replaced and the A/C back to working order soon :(

good morning everyone. went out last night ...boys and my husband came along on the bikes while I hit the pavement. Funny thing...I decided to time myself, and I walked a 1/2 mile faster (by about 40 seconds) than I jogged it. Now, it's no secret that I really dislike running/jogging. Well, you could hardly call what I do running, seeing as how I go so slow  . I get no satisfaction from it, if I "make" myself do it, I feel no degree of accomplishment/pride for having stuck with it and finish....just relief that it is done for another day.

Shouldn't I get something out of it? I'm coming to hate it. Make excuses not to go.

I'm signed up for the Disney 1/2 marathon in January. Come hell or high water I am doing it....I am afraid that I will not be prepared, though. Is it failing/bailing out/ taking the easy road if I change my training to try to do this 1/2 as a walker vs.as a runner?????

I walked 1/2 of a mile in 6 minutes. I jogged it in just over 6 min. and 40 seconds. Sure, sounds okay - I can keep up the walking pace but I'm about gone after jogging the 1/2 of a mile :p

Am I slacking - should I just keep plugging away? I'm trying to find new motivation -

Anyway - today is my "off" day. So while I am home from work and have a off day from the training schedule I will...mow the grass (push - the riding lawn mower is on the fritz  ), finish washing the siding on the front of the house. plant some flowers in the back yard (warning!warning - in law visit in T-8 days :| ) fold Mt. Vesuvius - the pile of laundry on my couch, give the dog a bath, he stinks! and find time to sneak up to the grocery store and Lowes.

If you're faster walking than jogging, then by all means walk. Jogging at a similar pace to walking actually puts more stress on your joints at no extra speed benefit. If you're dead set on jogging the 1/2 marathon, then you'll have to start learning to jog faster I guess. The fastest racewalkers are way faster than I at running, so it's not out of the question to do that.

I just got back from 3 days of bike riding in the high Sierras. Day one: Bear Valley--Spicer Meadow Reservoir and back. Day two: Bear Valley--Markleeville and back, big miles, big climbs, 6 hours of riding time. Day three: Markleeville to the county line on Monitor Pass.

Not many people have the strengh and endurance to accomplish this, but riding with a club like this can get you to do things you never thought possible.

Just got an email from one of the other riders. The three-day total was 131 miles with 13,600' of climbing. Whew!

Helloooooo (echo, echo, echo :D )

we've been a quiet bunch this month, you all must be as busy as I am! I've been trying to get back on the wagon. And I think I have done it! Thank goodness cause for a while there I was beginning to think "this isn't gonna work!"

it's 6:10 Eastern, and I'm getting readyy to head out for my morning jog. Need to clear my brain....T-Minus 2+ hours till the inlaws show up...first time in 3 1/ 2 years - but who's counting  Okay - I am!!! :D

Everyone have a good weekend.

Well, I finally got myself in gear so I can post on this thread!
I went to the gym after my WW meeting and did the treadmill for 30 minutes total (5 minutes warmup, 20 minutes at 3mph+, and 5 minutes cooldown). Not a whole lot, but it's a start! I've kind of slowed down on my weight loss, and need to get back exercising for that reason, as well as the general aerobic benefits and osteoporosis slowing effects.

But I picked up the class schedule, and the class I REALLY want to do they don't offer in the evenings anymore (well, they do if you count 5:30 as evening - I can't GET there and be ready by then, even if I did leave work at 5!) They have another location near work, that I'm thinking I might do long lunches and take that class there.

But, before I do that, I need to build up the time on the treadmill!

My "long" weekend runs are supposed to be 6 miles while I get back to action, but my legs have been feeling REALLY sluggish. I might have hit 5 miles on Sunday, but I think I just need to buy an iPod and go until I actually hit the right distance. Shorting my workouts isn't helping right now.
