It was interesting to read Kevin's column, though I have to disagree on a few points, specifically having to do with menu changes. I've noticed some significant changes, unfortunately having the effect of taking away things I like. I still enjoy dining at Downtown Disney, but I was much happier with what was offered previously.
My take on the various dining establishments:
La Brea - Never eaten there, menu items didn't do much for me, either at the take-out or at the cafe.
Naples - Don't feel the need to pay those kinds of prices for pizza. As far as the ristorante, I've read one good review, but I've heard of many more reviews, some from good friends, about how horrible the food and service were, so until I get some good reviews from friends that I trust, I won't be trying the place. For the kind of money I'd have to spend there, there are other places, both inside and outside of the resort, that I'd rather spend my money.
Wetzels - Never eaten at that location.
Haagen Dazs - Gotten ice cream there once. It's ice cream.
Catal - Absolutely love the upstairs restaurant. My favorite restaurant at Downtown Disney. I don't get to dine there nearly as often as I'd like to. As far as the Tapas Bar though, the menu changes there have seriously disappointed me. They've taken out a majority of the tapas that used to be offered and now offer a mixture of a few tapas items and a few entree items from upstairs. I think they do offer tapas at certain hours but it all seems so confusing. The Tapas Bar was something that I absolutely loved, and I'm very disappointed that they've mucked with it.
House of Blues - Had dinner there recently. The food was ok, but nothing to write home about, and IT'S VERY LOUD IN THERE. Wouldn't eat there again unless a close friend insisted.
Y Arriba Y Arriba - Ate there once, was not impressed with what they offered, and it paled in comparison to what the Tapas Bar was offering. Wouldn't go there again under any circumstances.
Jazz Kitchen - Haven't yet had dinner there, though I would like to. They used to offer a Sunday brunch menu that was pretty cool: soup or salad, entree, dessert and drink for a fixed price. The last time we went, they still had the menu up in the doorway but we were told by the server that they'd discontinued the brunch offering a week ago. When I expressed my disappointment and suggested that they should take down the menu out front if they're no longer offering it, the server talked to the manager and they agreed to offer us the brunch. When we left, I noticed they'd taken down the menu outside. We had dinner from the take-out menu a few weeks ago and were completely unimpressed with the jambalaya. It's something I happen to like, but what they offered wasn't that tasty but very, very salty. I had maybe a quarter of my entree and then threw the rest away. Wouldn't eat there again.
Rainforest - I've eaten there probably half a dozen times. The food is decent enough and the atmosphere is fine. It's something I can do periodically.
ESPN Zone - Haven't eaten there yet but would like to. A good friend has said how much she likes the breakfast, so that's on the list.
