Hello all,

We just returned from a nice camping trip down the shore in NJ. We went to Wildwood, NJ for an evening to take the kids on the boardwalk for games and rides.

First off, about each ride requires 5 to 7 tickets each (rip off) lasting about 30 seconds to a minute long each. I bought a book of 25 tickets for $20 and the kids went on 2 rides, one with me and one w/o.

They spotted right away a ride called...(you are going to just love this one  )....

Pirates of the (Caribbean, but crossed out) and over it was WILDWOOD.

The outside looked very much like the WDW ride with the SAME music!!!!! So, we ventured on it thinking "oh, what if?"

And it took 15 tickets for this dumb, stupid, horrible, tacky ride that inside was just florescent skeletons and scary recordings and a man hiding behind a tin tunnel waiting to scare you when you went thru it. We went up a teeny tiny hill to make it look like a flume type and it didn't do anything at all...oh it was awful!

When we got off, I wanted to demand my money back, but it was no refunds and what got me so upset is the fact they copied the music and the front to mimic WDW's Pirate ride.

I've heard that if it's only 10% different they can get away with copying something, but to me it was an insult to WDW's Pirate ride!

Any comments to share? :(

I don't think using disney music as the main music is legal or ethical. my guess would be that disney lawyers would be interested in this rip off. why not send a note to disney legal dept. the worse they could do is ignore you, at best they may be able to prevent others from getting ripped off.

I don't recall what the area music is at WDW's version of the ride. Was the music that they were using variations on "Yo Ho" (which is definitely owned by Disney) or are both locations using something in the public domain?

That sounds terrible, I would write to Disney as mentioned above.

Here is some more info on the ride:

I believe it was *actually* called "Pirates of the Caribbean" before the re-theme...

Looks like some local artist had a lot of fun with flourescent paint. Yawn...

^ I kind of thought it had a Buzz Lightyear feel to it...

O my gosh! I would be SCREAMING to get off that ride! I'd have a headache just from seeing all of that cheap flourescent paint! It's an insult to Disney and pretty much illegal! I'll make sure NEVER to go there!

You can always write to the folks at Disneyland or WDW and give them a heads-up. If the legal beagles think it's enough of a violation they will send a cease-and-desist letter to the company.
