Indy'sGirl27 06-24-2005, 06:50 PM Sorry, I should have put this on my first post but....ok this summer my mom wants me to make dvd slideshows and put music to them and give them out to my family because most of them live far away. So the question is is do i need a different type of software then photoshop to do that kind of stuff , and if I do what software do I use?
Thnx again,
Kandice
bradk 06-24-2005, 06:55 PM Paintshop Pro from JASC is also a very viable lower-cost alternative to Photoshop. You can also download a free trial.
I don't think Photoshop itself does DVD photo albums. another product in the adobe suite does I'm sure.
i used to use one, but forgot what it was. it was okay. ULEAD is also a popular graphics software company and not only do they have dvd photo album software, they even have a disney themed one

edit: looks like the disney version only burns to CDs. the other product will do dvds as well.
Matt Hamand 06-24-2005, 07:05 PM You may want to have a mod move this to the tech forum.
I use:
http://www.irfanview.com/
It is totally free, no trial version or anything. I might be slighlty underpowered compared to Photoshop, but it works pretty well for me.
SCUBAbe 06-24-2005, 08:28 PM adobe photoshop CS...:)
uvsc_wolverine 06-25-2005, 12:46 AM I would recommend Adobe Photoshop for the photo editing. If you have access to a Mac I would use that for the slide show. On any mac running OS X there will be a program called iPhoto. You can import your photos to iPhoto, set them to music, and burn them to CD as a slideshow.
You can also do something similar in iMovie if you export your photos as a quicktime movie, you can then have a little more control over how the music syncs up with the pictures, and you can do more effects and transitions. You can also create the slideshow in iMovie instead of iPhoto if you want to go that route, although it might take longer. iPhoto is pretty slick when it comes to making slideshows.
Andrew 06-25-2005, 12:50 AM 1. Paint Shop Pro (http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel3/Products/Display&pfid=1047024307383), now owned/distributed by Corel, is a bit less overwhelming than Photoshop, and a whole lot cheaper.
2. Paint.NET (http://www.eecs.wsu.edu/paint.net/) Paint.NET is image and photo manipulation software designed to be used on computers that run Windows 2000, XP, or Server 2003. It started development at Washington State University as an undergraduate senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. It is meant to be a free replacement for the MS Paint software that comes with all Windows operating systems. The programming language used to create Paint.NET is C#.
IndySpacePirate 06-25-2005, 01:13 PM I'm a big fan of Adobe and use Adobe Photoshop 7 but...
You could always go with Photoshop Elements (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelwin/main.html) too if you are on a budget. It's only $99.99 (instead of $599.99 for CS) and I've used it and like it a lot. It's more home user based rather than professional but you can do some awesome things with your photos!

As for your DVD slideshow I would recommend Adobe Premiere Elements for $99.99 as well. You can get that bundled with Photoshop Elements for $149.99 for the both of them! I use Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 and like the interface and it is very powerful and have read good reviews on the more home based Elements version. You can burn DVDs, export to many different formats, add music and audio tracks, titles, effects, transitions, etc.

the only one I have used that makes a very good quality DVD is adobe premiere...all the other one comprssed the video and playback on the TV was very pixelated....some even pixelated on the computer...now editing video is not my cup of tea...LOL...i enjoy the results, but I'm so detailed with it it takes me hours to do it. I can edit photos very quickly..:)
