View Full Version : Win32 files? Help!

I had to reinstall Windows on my computer today, because of some hidden virus or something that no one (me, 3 Geekbuster tech people, NortonAntiVirus, TrojanHunter, AdAware, etc. etc. etc.) could find. Anyway, before doing so I backed up my pictures and documents onto a CDR. Now that Windows is back up and running fine, I copied these files onto my new harddrive.
However, whenever I try to open them it says "[IMG LOCATION] is not a valid Win32 application". I removed the read only attribute, but that didn't really solve anything. I can't open them.
Is there anyone who might know what I can do so I can actually use these files???
I tried looking up information on Google, but it was all really confusing and not helpful at all. Laymen's terms needed.
Thhhhanks, I hope! :(

Edit:
Okay, now I just dumped some photographs from my digital camera onto my computer, and those photos have the same problem!!! Argh, this is so frustrating.

It sounds like the file association for .jpg has been damaged. I suggest uninstalling/reinstalling your photo editing software.

Also: Look in your C:\ root directory for a file called "program.exe". If it is there, rename it to "program.bak".

Well I tried that after you suggested it, and it didn't work. I have a sinking suspicion that my computer has suffered some sort of permanent/I-can't-fix-it-alone-with-my-subpar-knowledge damage from whatever attacked it earlier this week, because this certainly is not the only problem I've been having, only the most pressing because I would like to use my digital camera.

I also installed McAfee Personal Firewall, McAfee QuickClean, and McAfee AntiSpyware, I don't know if this has anything to do with them, they were NOT on my previous version of Windows. All I know is that AntiSpyware seems to never stay installed, and my computer runs a looooot slower and freezes and gives me funny error messages/low on memory messages.

Oh well, I'm leaving in a week, and then I'll deal with it
Thanks for your suggestion and help, however, Andrew! :)
