OK, I need to get serious and actually lose some weight.

My downhill slide began in late October last year when I went on the Disney cruise. I started eating starches then, and then have also been managing to eat some sweets when I go on vacation, go to a Disney theme park, or travel. The problem is, in the past six months I have done some extensive traveling.

That, and my recent snack du jour has been Cheez-Its. Loaded with sodium and starch.

I tried to fit into a pair of shorts yesterday, and they were too tight. I could still zip them up, but it felt like sausage casing. Fortunately, these are my "skinny clothes" shorts, but I am NOT gonna revert!

I went running this morning, and I could feel all the fat jiggling around my waist. I know people gain weight in different ways/areas -- well, I get it around my middle.

Time to get serious! For lunch I am having a healthy green salad with chicken and tofu, with olive oil and balsamic vinegar instead of ranch dressing. AND using portion control.

Gotta drink water. Gotta drink water. :)

"Sausage-casing!" LOL Lani!

Good luck to you! I can tell you that in January I decided to cut out all sweets and unhealthy snacks (cookies, cheez-its, cake, etc), and it was tough. But then I lasted the whole month, felt great, and I've extended it indefinitely. Now when I crave something sweet I either have fruit, light yogurt, or those flavored rice-cakes. Once a week I reward myself with a Jamba Juice, but only if I do good. So here it is almost 5 months later, and I almost have my 6-pack back. And thanks to you, I'm hooked on water! I cut out soda back in '97, but have been overloading with fruit drinks ever since, and those aren't much better.

So good luck with your new regimen! I just wanted you to know that while eating healthy all the time is tough (it actually sucks), it does work. Keep us updated with your progress, please!

I know the feeling Lani! I just got back from a weekend of camping (and eating and driking crap) and felt so bloated, then I went to the doctor and found I'd gained 8 pounds since my last check-up! On my small frame that's a lot! I think I've gained 10 pounds since my wedding  . The newlywed nine definitely exists.

So now we're going through detox! Last night dinner was salmon, broccolli, and brown rice. Tonight it's lean mean tacos on whole wheat tortillas with salsa and avacado. I'm upping my workouts and I'm cutting out caffeine (again) and drinking tons of water.

My downslide relates to not working out as much and eating too many sweets at work. Plus we've been drinking wine often with dinner and I'm sure that adds up.

My goals are to lose 10 pounds by July 22nd, and then another 3 pounds by August 22nd and then another 2 pounds by December 10 (trip to WDW!). I haven't been that low since senior year of college, but I'd like to get back there.

I have the opposite rpoblem right now. I just bought new work clothes 2 weeks ago...had them all hemmed and put them on today and they are all to loose...I have mixed feeling about this. YEAH they are loose...OMG they are brand new and they are to loose....*sigh*

Lani, I feel your pain! My slide started at Thanksgiving and extended into about April. I was back on track but then hurt my hip. After 3 weeks, it finally isn't bothering me anymore. Today was the first day I actually ran the whole way (granted, I'm sure I looked like an 80yo lady shuffling along at about 2 mph-- but hey).

I know you can get back on track-- don't buy any new, accomidating clothes. That's what's been working for me.

Can I add a "me too"? My pants have also been getting tighter and tighter (too much late night snacking and not enough time at the gym). I've been trying to slim down the past couple of months, but each time I start eating right and exercising again I also end up catching something my kids pass on to me. I had pneumonia for a couple weeks 2 months ago followed by a major sinus infection last month. And now, after a weekend of *ahem* overindulging I'm also feeling very bloated. Now that I'm finally over all my infections and sinus problems I'm feeling ready to head back to the gym. And I'm definitely ready to start eating right and get rid of this bloat.

Wow, is my timing right or what???

Lani!! Yes, you {and Bill, too!} have inspired me so much throughout my workout adventures!!

And, yes, I also have to join the 'My pants are getting tighter!!' club!

What the heck? I mean, I was ten pounds lighter this past August. I can't remember when I started creeping higher until 'BOO!' the scale showed me that awful truth!!!

I know I've been stressed. I know I've eaten differently. I can't say I've been sick. I've been having a heck of a great time!! I've been trying to be the bestest wife I can to the Hubster who has been going through some hard times. His mom passed away and also his job has been in jeopardy due to the facility closing. Stress is not good. So, that plus taking him out with me {he says he enjoys my concerts they are a distraction} and eating here and there. Still trying to stick as close to sensible eating as we can. No sodas.

I've exercised as I always have except I don't dance as much but instead do Tae Bo. Oh, and that brings up something I've meant to ask eons ago {been busy...} Do you guys {3894} do the routines just like he does? Do you not FALL OVER???? The kicks leave me falling over, I still have to hold onto a chair or something after all of these months. My husband can't look at me or else he'll lose his balance {the two of us do the workouts in our little living room, heck, if I fall I am in big trouble...} Those things you do while standing on one leg? Oh, come on!!

Anywho. I picked up a book on how to lose ten pounds. I am so bummed because when I was ten pounds lighter I only had 12 pounds to go to my ultimate goal.

But, I do sit ups now and that helps.

Do you guys think that winter also hurts? And, how much am I really suffering because I don't run? I was gaining the weight even when we were running.

When I do my weights, I always remember Bill advising 'Don't clench your teeth' and I stop.... :geek:

Well, let's turn this around to positives. With the weather here in upstate NY finally getting warm, I've been really good about walking at lunchtime. I do somewhere between 1.25 and 1.5 miles most days. (Some days I can't walk, either due to rain, too busy, or other issues.) And I am proud (and shocked!) to say that I am now able to tighten my belt an additional notch! The actual weight drop isn't much, but the body is definitely shrinking.

So Lani, here's your inspiration: If this slug can do it, you can too!! Go to it!!! :D

You really don't want to hear from me in this thread. I LOST weight over the winter. (And I had to tighten my belt a notch.) :p

Still, there's no doubt I could stand to lose a little more, especially if I want to pedal uphill faster. Not sure it will happen, though.

Get yourself back on track, and don't obsess on what you failed to do in the past.
