View Full Version : Disney rethinking Animation ROBONICS95 04-25-2005, 07:39 AM Yet another "interesting" Jim Hill article http://www.jimhillmedia.com/mb/articles/showarticle.php?ID=1407 SummerinFL 04-25-2005, 08:23 AM But I can tell you this much. From that point forward, Mickey will be paying very close attention to "Curious George," that traditionally animated feature that Universal is releasing in February of 2006. And if that Matt O'Callaghan film does particularly well during its domestic release ... Well, you'll probably see a couple of things happen fairly quickly: Some very senior executives at Disney Feature Animation will be asked to clean out their desks. And then the word will go out to a very small, select group of traditional animators. As in: "All is forgiven. Please come home." I really hate money, honestly I know I need it to live but if it takes away from things that would otherwise be precious I have a real issue with that. I know I know its corporate America blah blah blah, I'm just so sick of everything falling to the mighty dollar. olegc 04-25-2005, 11:50 AM Well, I attended the showing of the film at the OCMA and Dan Lund thought it did not have a chance to be successful since it is costing so much money to create Curious George and the folks don't believe it will be a hit. Since Jim was not there, and he himself is not an animator, he's looking only at the core business side. he could be right - but I would not take his "opinion" as very well informed. Dan Lund was telling us the whole thing is about story - not necessarily just animation (and this is true). The animation must be of a high level, artistic, well thought out and interesting to watch, but without an engaging story you won't have return viewers coming to the movie - so the first week will be big and then it will tail off.... |
