Sorry mods, I didnt know where to post this. Can anyone tell me the name of that book that came out a few years ago that purported to expose the dark underside of Walt?

Well, I googled "anti disney book" and found alot of weird stuff. What disturbed me the most is the use of third world sweatshops by disney. I wonder if anyone else here will admit/agree that some of Mr. Disney's dealings were shady. The McCarthy/Anti Commie connection being one.

I couldn't tell ya. But are these "sweat shops" any connection to Walt Disney or the corporation itself?

I don't know of one that was ALL anti-Walt, but I own a biography of him that pointed out a few of his darker actions along with the good. The Walt Disney Story or something like that.

I found the one that I was thing about. "Disney, the Dark Prince". I might check it out. I'm kind of curious about the subject. I had no idea about the sweatshop troubles, that was just an act of google. That is so sad.

From what iv'e been reading its a heck of a lot more than tisk tisk tisk. More like a "you dirty so and so".
It's horribly ironic that a childs joy on one continent would be produced through a childs exploitation on another.

Eisner started things off with a bang. And just like a prodigy gone wrong it all went downhill from there for Eisner.

Sweat shops are a huge concern, yes. What would you recommend we do about it?

I guess a start would be to not buy products produced by them, but I'm sure you already have figured out that. I actually dont know. I do a DL trip once a year, but I dont know about this one. This really disturbs me. I'm actually hoping someone will pop in and show me the evidence to refute this.

I'm not very good at doing research. I've never been the journalist type. I know boycotting the company would be out of the question, because it would barely put a dent in their pockets with all the money they make.

yes, but if I stopped buying anything made in a sweat shop I would be nude. Lets boycott walmart, target, and the malls. I just bought a suit made in Vietnam. I wonder who made it? The problem is not just a Disney issue it is a national issue.
bu the way the stuff I've hard about uncle walt that disturbs me even more is his over fondness of children....

Not really.
That sounds blase, but really what are we supposed to do about it? I still want my Nike shoes, and yes I want them at a reasonable price.
I try not to buy too much/any Disney merchandise as a rule, so I like to think I'm not directly supporting the exploitation of child labor. But am I ever going to give up going to Disneyland/world because of this? No way.

Well, I dont shop at Walmart, Target, or at Malls because iv'e seen too much of the corporate takeover of the mom and pops but that's another forum and another thread. :)
I agree wholly that this is a national issue. I just freaked when I though about my my youngin working for some odd cents an hour to make a shirt for Disney. It just hit me hard.

I hate to think of stuff like this. I would rather just think of Walt as a great man. I don't even believe what is written in that book because I am sure the author just wanted to make money and could possibly be making a lot of facts up.

blase indeed. I guess you "need" your nike shoes, whatever the price as long as you are not the one paying it? There are plenty of craftmen here in the US that will make you a fine pair of shoes, but you are going to have to pay them a fair price. This attitude sickens me. As long as you get your brands for cheap, who cares?

I hear ya. This is so weird how this all came up. It was not even the intention of my thread.

Borgnineus,
So far all you have posted is speculation. You are so convinced this is true you want to begin a boycott. I think you would get more followers if you could post some information that is more concrete to support your musings.
BTW, where DO you buy your clothes?

Oh, I thought you were going to play journalist for us. Quite frankly, I don't believe much of what is posted on the internet. I am not easily persuaded about anything because everyone has an agenda and can slant things to prove their own point.

Seems that there are alot of legitimate organizations to back up the claim.
