She meets the height requirement and is quite adventerous....but how scary are these??? If she goes on can she just cover her eyes if it proves to be too much????

Thanks

I'd have a feeling Star Tours could be too much. Even if she closes her eyes, she'll still be getting thrown around.

Soarin' shouldn't be too bad unless she is REALLY afraid of heights.

Star Tours bounces you about pretty violently (so much so it bothers some adults) - talk to her about that and see if that bothers her.

Soarin' isn't itself scary - it's just high. If she doesn't like the idea of looking out of a high building window or over the railing at a multi-level mall you might want to wait. The ride itself is not violent or scary, but once you're up there, there's really no way down until it ends.

Personally, I was scared to death of Star Tours until I was about 12. My family took me on it when I was 7 and I hated it. I don't know how a young kid would react to Soarin'.

My 4 y.o. went on Star Tours for the first time 15 years ago, and held on for dear life - even in the center where the action is subdued. He was making the "I want out of here" face and screamed when the starspeeder took sharp turns and crashed into the big chunk of ice, but after we were exiting into Tomorrowland - he was already asking to go on again. He still loves that attraction, even at 19...

It depends on your child. That same age he rode the Matterhorn - and refused to ride another roller coaster until he was 13.

Well, on my test-flight of Soarin' in Florida (same exact ride btw), there were lots of kids i would say were pretty young, 7 and under i think, and none of them disliked the ride.

My son is 4, will be 5 in October. He started riding Splash Mountian when he just turned 3. He was a bit tall for his age. HE LOVED it, so, we did BTMR. He begged to ride again!! He rode Star Tours and loved it!!! I however, don't like that ride!! He rides TOT over and over, while my 10yo won't go near it!! Some kids just love those types of rids. We are hoping he grows another inch by November, so he can ride Space Mountian! Although, I will be so scared I'm gonna be sick!!! We are gonna put him in front of his father and he's gonna HOLD on to my son! LOL I love it, but not sure if I love HIM RIDING it! LOL I say GO FOR IT!! If she likes the other rides, I say she will be fine on this one...if not, she won't have to ride again.

if i remember right, Space Mountain doesn't have "rows" of seats like Matterhorn. their's are 2/ row and like 10+ rows of seats. so, what your saying is you want your husband to sit by your son and you sit alone (with someone else). that would work right? i personally like that seating better, you can smack your friend beside you if you get scared so he/she will screem with you lol

when my 3 1/2 yr old went on them he loved both of them.

I figured star tours would be OK, he's a huge star wars fan.

but I was unsure about Soarin' He could not wait to ride again.

He love both of them.

I think Star Tours is the "scarier" of the two- and definitely the one more likely to be uneasy on the tummy. My son went on it at 4.5 and he didn't want to go on it again but he wasn't upset. If she sees the queue and wants to try it, I think she should be fine.

Soarin' should be, IMO, no problem. It's such a lovely ride, really. It's a lot of fun.

If she asks not to go, even after waiting in line, I wouldn't "force" her to go. But if she's willing, I think she'll enjoy them.

My 4 year old likes Soaring, and he talks about being in an airplane all the time. Star Tours he refuses to mention- however at Universal Studios he didn't mind the back to the future ride that much. But, Star Tours didn't scare him as bad as Thunder Mountain Railroad did.

Max rode Soarin' last year (at almost three years old) and LOVED it! He hasn't ridden Star Tours, and I know he's not ready for it, a lot of rides scare him if they're too fast, too dark, or too loud. Hopefully this is a phase he'll soon outgrow because he's gonna have to keep up with me one of these days!!!

Awwww!! Star Tours was my attraction when I was a cast memeber there for 2 years (just a year ago) ( *wipes tears away* ...I really miss that place)

There were quite a few "mixed" feelings among children that age...it really depends on their demeanor...some were right in there wanting to do it over and over again...a few others didnt want to see a starspeeder again...I had been asked to ride a few times with kids that were that age but their parents couldnt go on as they were taking care of the children that were too small... I found that pointing things out while on the ride when they seemed a bit nervous (something to laugh at or a question to ask them) really seemed to help....
I would suggest that if your little one is adventurous and is wanting go on, then:
1. ask to sit in the middle of the starspeeder...the motion of the speeder is less felt here.
2. if you feel the need, let the cast member know of the child wanting to go on but is a little nervous, the cool ones will allow the child to see the speeder "in flight" through a covered panel above the control board for that particular gate (which frankly is actually quite cool no matter who you are!)

Just remember that the ride is just over 5 minutes long from the point of shutting the doors. Just to give you an idea of the ride time if you were wondering!
I hope this helps! Have a great time! Thats a great age! :)

The only trouble that our son had with Soarin over California was the noise of the fireworks in the last scene. I think he was 7 or so. He just plugged his ears after the first time and was fine.

I agree about the Star Tours - may be a little rough. However if your child has seen Star Wars, the visuals may outweigh the movement.

Keep in mind that my kids are Star Wars geeks.....

All three of my daughters loooove Star Tours, and for a while it was my middle daughter's favorite ride by far. They all went on it by the age of four, and have loved it, have never been scared, but I am pretty careful about holding them as still as I can. Until they're six or so, they can get thrown around pretty good. What I love about it is the first time they ride it, they actually believe they flew into outer space......I love that!

Ah, Soarin'. Gorgeous. The girls love it. Our last trip in December was the first time that we've all been able to go on it as a family of five and it was memorable. :) My four year old adored it.....she still talks about it.

Thanks

My daughter loves Star Tours (but she also loves Star Wars). She rode it when she was 3 and 4 and wasn't afraid at all. In fact, she says that will be her first ride on our next trip.

My daughter loved both Soarin' and Star Tours as a very timid and easily-scared 3-year-old.

Mine loved Thunder Mountain, Matterhorn, Mullholland and Soarin at that age but hated Star Tours. Never hated a ride as much as she hated that one.

My 4 year old loves both of those rides. My 3 big boys are huge Star Wars fans and our biggest problem is that one of my 3 year old twins is too short for the ride. The other twin is tall enough but it just doesn't seem fair to let one ride and not the other. So we just keep hoping he'll grow fast

My now 6 yr old loves Soarin' and went on it when she was 5 several times.

I can't get her to go on Star Tours though - she went on it when she was 4 so i'm not sure what she remembered, but she still refuses to go on it again.

My 3yo went on Soarin' last fall. He loved it and it was his first ride to go on when we went to DCA this spring, he couldn't wait. He tends to be afraid of heights but I don't think he realized we were actually up high. He likes Jumpin' Jellyfish so maybe his height thing isn't all that bad. lol
Anyway, we have not taken him on Star Tours yet. I think it jumps around too much and there is no real way to hold on to him.
We have taken him on BTMRR and he loved it. But he was smooshed between DH and I, and didn't move around at all. He said he can't wait to go on it again.
His next request is Mulholland Madness, which my DH will be joining him on, because I don't care for it. He is just 1 inch to short. Next trip, I am sure.

I also have a pretty serious fear of heights, but I can ride Soarin', the Maliboomer, the Tower of Terror and every other "high" ride without triggering my irrational fear. In fact, I think that my phobia actually adds to the exhiliration of the rides.

My daughter just turned 5 in March and I took her on Star Tours last weekend and she loved it! Couldn't stop talking about how we got to fly through space.

I think what it boils down to is how has your daughter handled any kind of thrill ride like those before? Do you have anything to compare it to? Because I think these posts have proven its really all about the child involved and how they would react to something like that.

At this age it can go ether way. They thing that scares most kids on both these attractions is the high volume on the rides. If you go through the line of star tours and the noise in the preshow scares them that is a good indication that the ride is going to be too much for them.
