View Full Version : April accountability...
ericles 04-01-2005, 07:25 AM Ok! I'll start!
I know it's only April 1st...but I did haul my butt outta bed this morning around 5 am. Did two miles - most of it at a steady walk. I'm still getting over a rather nasty case of the stomach flu, and have no energy..anyway I got out there, mostly walked, did jog a bit.
TrekkieDad 04-01-2005, 07:30 AM Dang, I missed the opportunity to start this thread! I'm off on my bike to work, and then there will be a couple of good rides this weekend before the rain comes back.
Karen256 04-01-2005, 08:38 PM Well I've taken the first step to getting healthier and losing weight....I finally joined a fitness club! I joined on Tuesday and so far have gone twice this week. My husband also joined, and they have an awesome kids area for my son, so it'll be a family affair. I'm actually quite excited, I wish we did this long ago. I think it'll be easier to stick with this when we have a place to go specifically to work out, rather than pretending that I'll work out at home.
This forum looks like a great place to get motivation, which is exactly what I need!
GreenDragon 04-01-2005, 09:09 PM Well, I started the month by blowing the transmission on my car, so I'm walking to my mailbox until it's fixed...almost a 2 mile round trip, cross-country (my town don't need any stinking sidewalks).

I thought you would have started this thread for sure.
I am truly back OP. My official WI is Monday. DH pumped my tires and dusted off my bike and I have been riding. I'm no TrekkieDad but I did manage 2 whole miles ;) The weather is so beautiful right now and it's hard to stay indoors.
CrazyTrain 04-02-2005, 09:06 AM I'm new to this thread... :) I started back at Curves on Tuesday. 3x a week at least from here on out!! Still half on WW but not fully, though I am forcing myself more to make good choices. :p

Sometimes it seems like I own the accountability threads. 2 miles is a start. Pretty soon you'll be doing 20 and thinking it's too short. Joe and I did a 61-mile loop today with 4800' of climbing. Places seen on the ride: Buena Vista (start/finish), Stony Creek, Jackson (break), Clinton-Tabeaud, Pine Grove, Volcano (lunch), Sutter Creek, and Ione. Weather: perfect.
I'm leaning toward doing the monthly pancake breakfast ride tomorrow. I always enjoy that one. The alternative is a tough hill ride that I last did on my 55th birthday about 5 months ago.
rentayenta 04-03-2005, 08:36 AM Thanks for the encouragement Trekkie! I am really enjoying riding outdoors; so much more enjoyable than the stationary bikes.
Anna Banana 04-03-2005, 08:42 AM Now that it's beautiful outside, I'm taking the dog for walks instead of using the treadmill. I took her to the park yesterday and wore her out! I could have kept going, but the poor little thing decided she would rather sit and watch a little kid learn to hit a baseball instead. I wonder if carrying a dog through the park would count for weight training. ;)
I think we did manage 2 miles yesterday. Today I'm taking the other dog and hoping for 4 miles.
JosieGirl71 04-03-2005, 12:31 PM I am in my second week of WW and weigh in tomorrow. I lost 5 pounds the first week and we will see what tomorrow holds. I went to the gym 3 days this week and was planning on going this morning but my dog left a nasty surprise for me in his crate which took about 45 minutes to clean up.
I think we are going to buy a treadmill next weekend so when I don't feel like going to the gym, I can just hop on my treadmill and do a few miles as there is no walking outside for us right now (too much rain).
TrekkieDad 04-03-2005, 01:19 PM Well, I went for the pancake breakfast ride, but I took the "long way" there. I had a good start averaging 18mph, but turning into the wind slowed me down to 17.4. A headwind on the return dropped me to 16.3. Oh, well. Still, I got in 37 miles total and was home from the ride by noon.
Several of the guys who were going to do the long hill ride bailed because a local TV station predicted thundershowers in the pm. And at 8 this morning, it didn't look promising outside. So far, it's still dry, and the sun has been poking out.

Awesome Josie!!!
I figured Trekkie would've started this one also~thanks ericles for getting us going, though. :)
I've been holding steady. Had to put off strength training for a week while I recouped from a nasty re-bout of the flu. Dizziness! Nausea! No appetite...oh my! I'm back and better now and it doesn't appear that I've had any lasting effects muscle wise from the break.
Impressive biking as usual Trekkie. AND now, Renta! Way to go, girl! :D
I'm with Anna. I'll be out walking the pup quite a bit. No biking for me. That's hubby's deal. ;)
Happy April everyone!
~kisroo:)
SCUBAbe 04-03-2005, 08:51 PM I walked and walked and walked at DL/DCA today. We like to speed walk around the park..:)...
Well, I finally had a weekend off, and I won't have to work 70 hours next week, so I'll be back at the gym tomorrow. I'll be going every day before work from now on, until I get hit hard at work again next month. (I don't always go while I'm really busy at work. I figure if I'm doing 70 hours in one week, I'm getting plenty of exercise  )
rentayenta 04-04-2005, 08:31 AM Well, I just wieghed in and I lost 5 lb. :fez: I heart Weight Watchers!
It's raining here today so I am going to have to ride the bike at the gym.
Karen256 04-04-2005, 08:36 AM Friday I worked on various cardio machines for 60 mins. Saturday I did cardio for 45 mins, weight training for 30 mins. Sunday did weight training for 30 mins, swam laps for 30 mins, swam with the family for 30 mins. :)
Then defeated the purpose of it all by eating some very greasy pizza Sunday afternoon. :(

I tend to make fun of "spinners" but the truth is it's pretty good exercise. I just like riding a real bike better.
By the way, the rule of thumb is that an hour of spinning is equivalent to 15 miles on the road. Go for it!

Congrats! I'm curious. I've never done WW. How often do you weigh in?
I did my own "weigh in" last night. I haven't lost any more pounds, but I lost a half inch on each thigh, an inch around my waist, 3/4" around my hips and a half inch around my arms. :D
TrekkieDad 04-04-2005, 07:49 PM From now until the end of September, we put on a "Mellow Monday" ride. It's a 12 mile no-drop casual pace evening ride with a stop at a fruit stand/bake shop. We had 4 riders, but someone forgot to tell the fruit stand we were coming, because it was closed. I had to settle for a low-fat dessert at home.
"Casual pace" means slow enough for your grandmother. "No-drop" means no one is left behind, no matter how slow they ride.
Starting Wednesday we start the "Midweek Stress Reliever." It's nothing like Mellow Monday. In fact one rider has renamed it WAR (Wednesday Anaerobic Recovery). I'll be there for that one, too. :D
marktips 04-04-2005, 08:23 PM Spent a lot of time procrastinating (its my last day "off" of my 4-day weekend) but finally got my butt in gear.
Chest workout - felt stronger, upped the weights a lil on the dumbbell exercises and up the reps a lil too, so I know i'm improving.
Abs - I remembered to do my abs! Heinous calf cramp toward the end but I think that's because I was "willing" myself to crunch to failure. Sharp quick thing over in a second once i stretched my calf out, but i'll watch myself to see if it happens again.
Then cardio! Can you tell i'm on the "fit or bust" plan? Anyways, 45mins at a medium intesity on the eliptical. Stretched out really well afterward and focused on cooling down because that's what folks suggested after I got a naggy headache once. It seems to be working. Overall, i've spent 2 hours working out today - ouch.
I had to lie to myself - "I'll stop at 25mins and then cooldown.." then "I'll stop at 30mins.." and so on until the 45mins were over.
Oh, got a new toy! Wireless headphones. My MP3 player keep dying and being strapped to my arm isn't comfy 20mins into cardio, so i splurged and hooked the wireless phones to my pc - so i can play anything instead of having to download too.
It's kinda funny, I got through my chest workout because i spent a lot of time more focused on tuning the phones (it's a pain to tweak them to work jsut right - not the best audio quality, but no more wire!) rather than how much I'd rather not being doin it. Everyone says its about focus, but if i zone out I do so much better. All through cardio i was coming up with solutions to problems in projects i've got to do this week and in general planning my life.
stan4d_steph 04-05-2005, 09:43 AM I have an appointment with the fitness staff at my work gym tomorrow. I'm getting oriented on the weight machines etc. and hopefully they will help me work up a weight lifting program as well. :)

I just did this at my gym as well. The weight machines were a bit intimidating for me, but we met with one of the trainers and they go through everything, where to set the benches, how much weight to use, how many reps, etc. My gym includes three of these sessions at no charge, but even if there was a charge it would have been well worth it.
Good luck!
ericles 04-05-2005, 01:10 PM Today we had carpet installed in our basement....and after the carpet guys left I found myself with and hour and a half to kill (kids would be home from school in an hour and a half....no need to go back to my office = 20 min. drive there and back would only net me about 30-40 min. in there before I had to leave again anyway :D ) and the weather is soooo nice here in Maryland today. About 70 degrees and the sun is out. So I went out and did a couple of miles of my walk/jog routine and then did my weight circuit when I got home. Did that while I watched some crazy car chase in (gasp!) California. Never did see how it ended - did anyone else???????? Geez, what's in the water out there!
Karen256 04-05-2005, 09:22 PM Lost two pounds since my first weigh in a week ago. Slow and steady right?
Did weight machines first today, then did treadmill for 60 mins/4 miles, then stationary bike for 10 mins, then elliptical for 10 mins. Then had to make myself stop to get home and watch Amazing Race. We have to have priorities.
CrazyTrain 04-06-2005, 09:34 AM I missed a car chase! :(
Curves again after work. 2 of 3 this week. Yay!
