How safe is it to let my children who will be ages 16 and 11 roam the Disney ship alone. I have heard on other ships about assaults and such and I want to keep them safe but give them space at the same time. Any recommendations??
I really get the feeling that the hype about assults onboard is really overblown. Another opportunity for the news to run a 'News you can use' segment.
At those ages, they should be fine. It wouldn't hurt to give them the 'Don't go into someone elses stateroom without letting you know' talk, etc. The good news is that the kids tend to run around in groups together. So, the opportunity for them to be alone and in a position to get into that kind of trouble is pretty minimal.

Also, there are TONS of activites for teens and preteens that I seldom saw any roaming around on their own. There is safety in numbers .... there should be no need for either of them to be alone for more than a few minutes...

Thank you both for your input. I kind of felt it would be okay for them to be alone but this is the first Disney cruise and just want to make sure that everyone is safe and sound and has a great time. Being a mom I always worry about everything and everyone being safe and my mind always goes to the worst case!! Once we get on the ship I know I'll relax.

Grinningghosts, an 11 & 16 years old alone on a cruse, ANY CRUSE, even a Disney Cruse is about the worst idea I've ever heard of. In case you have had your head in the sand there child molesters in this world, even here in FL. Not only that, who will watch the kids while on shore trips?? say to Nasau, not the best port of call. This doesn't even begin to address drug problems in the Carribean not to mention the liability that Disney is NOT about to assume.
Be a good parent, go with your kids, have FUN , you will see them several times a day betwen their activities & yours; its worth your peace of mind!! :D

I think you misunderstood me, I am going on the cruise with my children,so is their father, 2 aunts and uncle and a cousin. I was worried about the child molesters, bullies etc. when I was not with them on the ship, i.e. when they are walking around the ship going to and from activies or hanging with new found friends, going to and from the cabin etc. My concern is that I have always been with them everywhere we have ever gone even to our local mall. This trip would be the first time I let them out of my sight to venture off on there own for any length of time. The only time they are out of my sight is at school! They have watched the DVD, read up on the cruise and are very excited about it. They want to have the "run of the ship" and I was worried about that. I would never let them take a vacation without me let alone to DISNEY!!! If anything I would be going to disney without them!! thanks again but rest assured they will have plenty of adults around, just not within arms reach. That was my concern.
