Just heard on news..Eisner has stepped down and turned evrything over to Iger..effective NOW!!

That is a bit of an overstatement. As has been widely reported, they are in a transition period through the end of September (which is the end of Disney's fiscal year) at which time Eisner will retire. He also will remain on the Board of Directors until next year's shareholders meeting, likely to be held in February.

At an investor's conference yesterday, Eisner stated that the transition has already taken place and that Iger is now running the company with Eisner essentially serving as his second. The exact phrase that Eisner used to describe his current role was as Iger's "junior partner".

Here is a link to an article about it. (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=599&e=1&u=/nm/20050324/media_nm/media_disney_dc)

I won't consider him gone until I see the stake in the heart and his skeleton burned to ashes...

Oh, sorry, that's a bit strong - but that vampire of a CEO seems to hang on. Like Jason, Freddy, or terminator - he keeps on going...

Let's not get into threats of physical violence, even if you're kidding. We've moderated people in the past for doing this and we'll do it again.

To me, this statement from Mikey was just "Marketing Spin". Mikey still has the title, and is the person in charge thru September. He needs to be proactive, as he is the person in charge.... Now, is he trying to help with the transistion... of course, but Mikey is still in charge.... And also will have a lot of power for the next year (October 2005 thru September 2006) as a member of the board....

He's not up, for Board election? Shame. It would have been nice to have him voted off.

Actually, board terms expire at the annual meeting. So he'll be a board member until late March 2006.

I heard that he is leaving in september, and I remember reading an article stating he is officially gone on Sept. 30, though I don't know if it is this year or next...I just find it funny cause, and I hope he still finds a job where he can do a wonderful job, but as for this job, if the dates are correct, then he is officially gone on my Bday. Funny. I feel guilty about the twinge of happiness, so I'll just say that it's, well: funny...lol

Michael's employment contract runs thru September 2006... and there are LARGE penalties for letting him go prior to that date without his permission.....

Maybe he will be a board member until March 2007....

He already said in his letter to the board that he would not seek reelection in 2006 (and they're probably itching to take him up on it). If he does stay on payroll through September 2006, it may just be a no-show job to let him collect while getting him out of the way. (Or, he could invoke the change-in-duties clause of his contract and just take the big advance payout.)
