View Full Version : San Diego Hotels
bassett1976 03-20-2005, 07:15 PM Does anyone have a recommendation for a nice hotel (Clean, quiet and close to Sea World, Zoo or Downtown) and that is in a safe area? We are trying to go down during spring break for a few days without paying out a lot of money (Hoping for under $100 a day, less is better)
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
VickiC 03-21-2005, 08:54 PM I'd try Priceline. I've gotten the Hyatt by Sea World for 70, although, everything may be sold out for Spring Break.
SoCalDude 03-22-2005, 02:02 AM Mission Valley has some nice hotels - there is an area that has a good number of them called 'hotel circle'.
We have also spent a few nights in the DoubleTree in Mission Valley just for the heck of it, lol - nice place.
I would say it should take you about 15 or so minutes to get from Mission Valley to SW, just hop on the 8 west and there ya go.
See above. Anything in mission valley or hotel circle will get you close to sea world and the zoo. Watch the weather ! A cold rainny storm is headed our way!
bassett1976 03-22-2005, 07:41 AM Thank you all for your reply's. I did get a rate for $64 a night to go to the Ramada Limited by Sea World. Not sure if I should do that or try mission valley.
Thanks!
Hakuna Makarla 03-22-2005, 07:43 AM we stayed in hotel circle at the seven sea's. we loved it! the pool was awsome, there was a bar and a nice resturant we ate at. It has shuttles to and from sea world and the zoo. it was like 69.00
sdfilmcritic 03-22-2005, 07:44 AM Well, if you want to try Mission Valley might get a run in with using the I-8 freeway, which is a pain in the butt, for access to the I-5. But it is also closer to the 163 which will take you right up to the Zoo. The I-8/163 interchange and the I-8/15 interchange will be helpful to get to north San Diego county for the Wild Animal Park. The 8/15/163 all meet around the Mission Valley area.

rates are runjing 85.00 and here is the web site. Like I said they have shuttle service and close to everything .
bradk 03-22-2005, 06:48 PM i have the quality inn airport / sea world for $44/night with a harbor view and that's on memorial day weekend. granted it's a one star.
i have to believe the hotel is crap for a price like that, but it actually seems to have decent reviews. and it's half an hour from both the zoo and sea world via mass transit.

oh no - never ever take the 5 to SW if you are staring out n the 8. Getting on the 5 at really any freeway merge is going to be a pain in the rear.
Taking the 8 west just get over to the fast lane to avoid the peopel getting on the 5 and take the 8 to the end. I forget the name of the exit off the top of my head (hey its been ~4 years since I worked at SW) but you will take a right and go down whatever that street is, lol - and take another right into the back entrance for the parking area. The first parking area you will see is the employee parking, but you can get to the main gate and avoid ALL of the traffic that is coming into the main gate thru the main entrance. And you are not missing ANYTHING by taking this route (other than traffic).
If nobody knows (or posts) the street names I can make a run over there and get them. But you will see the skytower from the 8 - and all you have to to is drive towards it. The last right you will make is where the skycars make the turn for the return trip. It real easy to figure out, and really much quicker if you are going west on the 8 (like if you were in Mission Valley).
GeminiAngel 03-28-2005, 12:03 PM One of the greatest vacations I ever had in my life, last summer of 2004. We stayed at The Dana on W. Mission Bay Drive. Although, it was about $129 a night.
bassett1976 03-28-2005, 08:25 PM Thank you all for your input. My wife and I do truely appreciate your advice.
On Sunday morning, my wife and I woke up and really wanted to come down to San Diego early. After about an hour we went onto hotwire and got a 4 star hotel for Sunday night for $91.00. We ended up getting it and stayed at Paradise Point Resort & Spa. What a wonderful place. I also found another site that had rooms for $99 a night for future reference. We got a King bed in our bungalow with a small pond out back. We are looking to go back to this resort in the future, possibly during our Anniversary. They have multiple pools, bonfire pits, a full spa and even a mini golf course/putting course.
We had also gotten 3 nights stay at a 3.5 star hotel for $61 a night. We ended up getting the Holiday Inn Express in Pacific Beach. Since this is our first night we don't know everything. My wife's first impressions were not the best (she has the gift of Discernment) and it got both of us a little worried. Things have gotten a little bit better so far. Hopefully nothing bad will happen.
Other than that, this trip has been great so far. We got Passports to Sea World and have gone in both days. Tonight we got to feed the Dolphins and also got to feed the Sea Lions. We cannot wait to see the rest of the shows as we need to still see Shamu and the Dolphin show.
Once again, thank you so much.
