Gay people have every right to be in the park wearing their red shirts which make them recognizeable as a group as Goths, fraternity brothers , sorority sisters, smokers in the smoking section , Christians, bands, choirs, MP geeks, etc. As long as all of these people are behaving appropriately in public, people shouldn't have a problem with any of them!!
Oh my, I never thought of myself in a smoking "group" before. What a concept.

"Do you have children?" and if so, do you think of how a small instance could effect them for life ?
I am still trying to figure out exactly what tjaa thought would happen that would adversly (I assume you meant adverely and opposed to enriched??)affect his children's lives??

well, i admit i was on the attack with the grammar statement, but i don't believe i was any more out of line than anyone else in regards to having an opinion. if you're allowed to say it's wrong to 'be gay' in front of children, then i think i'm entitled at the very least to suggest that i think a good education to prepare a child for life than ignorance and hate. but as always, i digress.

I was just trying to include all the groups I've heard attacked at this board in the past. ;)

Makes sense. Smokers are used to being attacked. Especially by CMs. I'm so glad I know all 3 mapped smoking areas as well as the non-advertised one. Or should I say my husband is glad.

What makes you think that people are telling their children "it's wrong to be gay" or that they're teaching their children to be ignorant and/or hateful?
Some people are comfortable watching and letting their children watch two gay people kiss sexually. Others are not. If someone chooses to close her eyes and /or cover her kids eyes so they don't see it, that shouldn't be any more offensive to the gay people than if they close their eyes or their kids' eyes if they don't want to see a heterosexual couple kissing sexually.
IMO, Our children's lives are "enriched" more by the gifts, talents and qualities of both homo and hetero sexual than by knowing what their sexual prefence is or witnessing it.
One other thing I want to say is that I am a Christian and I have read way more judgmental, ignorant , and hateful comments about Christians (by one person in particular) at this board than I have ever read about gay people.

Dang. Looks like I opened a can of worms. Seriously, I was just trying to figure out if this added thousands of people to the park of if only a few hundred showed up, and if it was an entire week-end thing, or just the one day, since we're arriving April 3rd (the day after). Also, I like to have my son in bright shirts so I can pick him out of a crowd if he wanders, and red is obviously bright and easy to see...unless he's in a sea of red shirts!
I'm very glad we live in the U.S., where it's okay to express your opinions. (My opinion is that the week-end we had cheerleaders everywhere I thought I was going to have to blind my husband and put in earplugs; their giggling was deafening!)
And I'm even happier I get to go to Disneyland and get to experience the magic of Mickey and Walt!!!
If you're going to Gay Day...enjoy! If you're around on Sunday, I'll be one of those faces in the crowd with the permanent silly grin attached to my face!

It really hurts me to see a few of the posts on this thread, but it makes me so so happy and proud to see the many many many more positive and supportive posts. I can't thank some of you enough!
FF
BRAVO!!!! This is really a brave move and I applaude you so much!
I think some people are just ignorant and cannot see that gay people are no harm to you, your children or your life. How can the actions of someone you don't even know, (or do know?) possibly affect your life??? How many times have you seen teenagers ALL over each other at DL? In the lines for Peter Pan or Pinocchio? I have, and I don't want my kids to see THAT! I would feel the same of any couple (male/male, male/female, female/female) who were showing too much of what should be seen in private! Ick! I do not have a problem at all with my children (now grown) seeing same sex couples in public together. Holding hands....whoa, now that is pretty bad! (JOKING PEOPLE.) Yes, there may have to be explaining to do, if they are young enough, but please....what is so difficult about explaining that those two people love each other??? Love is the most universal GOOD in our world. All of us want to love and be loved. Why does it matter if two men love each other, or two women, or a man and woman?? It is LOVE folks, and love is wonderful and joyful.
Do we honestly think a person would CHOOSE to be ridiculed? Chance the possibility of "coming out of the closet" to parents who may disown them for life? To maybe lose a job, or be subject to public bashing and maybe even a physical attack by someone who is so ignorant??? My cousin, who came out at age 19, was SO scared. The first person he came to was me, and thank heavens, my father did not teach me that this was WRONG, so, I was able to accept my cousin's new life with an open heart and love for him. He was the VERY SAME MAN who I knew the seconds prior to his announcement that he is gay. Why would I turn against him? How could I? I loved him prior to his announcement, why not after? It makes no sense.
AND...just for the record, I am a Christian...and I still have these views!!!!

What makes you think that people are telling their children "it's wrong to be gay" or that they're teaching their children to be ignorant and/or hateful?
I don't mind if your GAY (your choice) but if your showing kids that it's ok to love same sex M/F (holding hands/kissing...), I will shut you down on the spot.
ignorance = being gay is a choice. hateful = threatening people for showing affection simply because of whom they love.
Some people are comfortable watching and letting their children watch two gay people kiss sexually. Others are not.
you lost me on that one. you make it sound like it's a form of entertainment. 'mom! can i watch the two gay people make out?' 'sure, son, i'm comfortable with that.'
my whole point which is neglected here was that it shouldn't be a matter of who's kissing whom. if something is inappropriate for one couple, it most certainly should be inappropriate for another, regardless of the genders involved.
If someone chooses to close her eyes and /or cover her kids eyes so they don't see it, that shouldn't be any more offensive to the gay people than if they close their eyes or their kids' eyes if they don't want to see a heterosexual couple kissing sexually.
that has nothing to do with the original comment i was responding to which basically said 'if you are gay and act like it, i will shut you down on the spot.' that's completely going on the offensive. how about 'if you and your partner of unspecified gender are making out like wildfire, i will walk away. or if i can't, maybe i'll politely say something. or even mention it to a cm or security.'
Dang. Looks like I opened a can of worms.
A search of this forum for "gay day" will bring up a Sam's Club worth of canned worms.

Also, I think the comment bradk made to TJAA about her grammar was totally rude and uncalled for in a discussion about gay mini day.
It was kind of funny though. And even funnier that he himself made a grammatical mistake 2 posts later! But this isn't English class...
What was really funny was when TJAA said "but if your showing kids that it's ok to love same sex M/F (holding hands/kissing...), I will shut you down on the spot..." -- Still LMAO! You're gonna shut me down? Okay keep thinking that.
And Toursbabe, it might not be the best idea to use "we are all God's children" as an argument, since technically homosexuality is one of Christianity's biggest sins. Although a lot of churches do allow homosexuals to join, but that is another thread altogether, hence my opinion that there is no need to bring religion into this.
My two cents? Lighten up! There is nothing wrong with homosexuality. Growing up where I did I saw it all the time, and still see it all the time to this day. I even go to the Pride Parade when it coincides with my work schedule. What is the big deal? I was exposed to many things at a young age, that doesn't necessarily mean I engaged in all of them! And if you're kid ends up gay, it will NOT be because he/she saw two dudes holding hands at Disneyland.
TJ. I witnessed my first gay kiss when I was in grammar school. And guess what? I am still a "flaming" heterosexual! [Jay from Clerks]I hate guys. I love women![/Jay from Clerks]

you lost me on that one. you make it sound like it's a form of entertainment. 'mom! can i watch the two gay people make out?' 'sure, son, i'm comfortable with that.'
Not at all. The kids don't go looking for it like a show, but it does happen in front of them.
my whole point which is neglected here was that it shouldn't be a matter of who's kissing whom. if something is inappropriate for one couple, it most certainly should be inappropriate for another, regardless of the genders involved.
Well that's your opinion because to many people , it is still as inappropriate to them for a homosexual couple to kiss as it is for a married man to kiss another man's wife or a sister to kiss a brother in a sexual way. That's not hate or ignorance....it's their opinion and they're just as entitled to it as you are to yours.
that has nothing to do with the original comment i was responding to which basically said 'if you are gay and act like it, i will shut you down on the spot.' that's completely going on the offensive. how about 'if you and your partner of unspecified gender are making out like wildfire, i will walk away. or if i can't, maybe i'll politely say something. or even mention it to a cm or security.'
Will you please do me a favor and use that person's name in the quote so it won't look like I said it? I choose my words pretty carefully and I don't want mine mixed up with someone else's. Thanks.
And even though I wasn't the one who said it, I don't think there is anything hateful about saying you would shut someone down if it means you would ignore them or not talk to them because you were uncomfortable with their behavior. People have the right to choose who they will or will give their time or attention to...I'm sure you've done the same when you've been in a situation with someone you didn't feel comfortable spending time with...it's called setting boundaries.
PS It's not ignorant to call being gay a choice, since there is no more scientific proof that people are born gay than there is that people are born straight. It's just another opinion that differs from yours and you're calling TJAA names because you don't agree with her.

i deliberately separated the original quote from yours. i apologize i didn't take the extra time to point out who said it, but it should be absolutely clear enough for anyone to go back and reference in the original posts. if i'm still able to, i will go ahead and clarify who said what just for your benefit.
and as DLF alluded to (and yes, i did manage to drop a few words from a sentence in an earlier post - the egg is still dripping from my face), 'shutting you down' is not exactly something that can be interpreted as 'i will ignore you.' the former is rather an aggressive action (stopping you from doing something) and the other is passive (accepting what you do but choosing not to be a party to it).
And now back to our discussion of mini Gay Day ....

Mini gay day is the forst weekeknd in april?
Also, just because two peple are walking holding hands or arm and arm does not make them gay. My teenage daughter and I walk holding hands alot and my daughter and her friend walked around the park arm in arm. If I go to a gay day event in a red shirt it does not make me gay. So, what you see may not always be what you think. I think it's best to live and let live and leave the judgements for another day. :)

LOL
I held hands with and kissed both of my daughters this past weekend. Heck, I even kissed renta!! (in a playful way!! :D )
I really don't want to divert this thread anymore from its original topic other than to say acceptance and tolerance is a two way street, so please don't assume that because people aren't gay, they are against people who are.
Hope all of you who attend on April 2 enjoy your time as much as those of us who attended MA last weekend!! :)
PS Thank you for "fixing" the quote bradk.

When I first saw this thread I thought, "Oh boy, here we go again!" I wasn't wrong. Pretty soon it will be Batsday and it will start all over again, then the big Gay Days in October then on and on and on. It's fun watching the season's change.
Oh and DLF, I would love to watch while anyone tried to "shut you down". Your post made me smile in agreement.

rrazey...batsday is when all the goths meet at DL in their garb
Sean'smom...it's too bad that you asked an innocent question and so many people started assuming that they knew what your motives were. I just thought I'd let you know that my hubby wore an orange shirt when we were at DL and it was very easy to spot him even in a big crowd!!!

Hey, we're in one of those. (the big group photo) hee-hee
for more info just search batsday on this site. There are several threads about it.
Oh and Coaster, you were almost right, batsday isn't when the Goths show up in their garb, it's when they show up in their regular everyday clothes. :D Last August there were over two thousand. Quite a sight.
