View Full Version : Howdy howdy!
Hey folks -- So many of us use our Palm OS handhelds, and I have gotten so much positive feedback after I published a Trip Planner article about handhelds (http://www.mouseplanet.com/lani/pda.htm) (with some downloadable files) that this was a logical progression. Feel free to talk about how you use your Palm for trip planning and whatnot. "Membership" is free and open to any MousePad registrant at this point. Thanks! :)
Dlandmom 01-03-2002, 10:02 AM Hey, Lani! Where did you get MouseHUG? Is it Handheld Unit Groupies?!
The best thing about using my Handspring has been inputting reservation #'s, phone #'s, and scheduling appointments. It's a very compact way of keeping everything together! I used to use stickies, but they can easily turn into a nightmare!
Plus, I upgraded the case for my Handspring (well, actually I bought a beautiful leather one!), and I use it to hold my ticket stubs, taxi receipts, etc.! Love it! I was thinking about adding the phone module, but I'm going to wait until the Treo comes out to see if that might be a better buy (just wish it weren't quite so expensive!).
adriennek 01-03-2002, 12:59 PM The best things about my visor:
It was free.
It is easy to write into.
It fits well in my purse so when we're at a store and need to take notes or make reminder lists for ourselves, it's quick and easy to use.
But I still use my franklin planner (Sorry, I have uses for both of them...)
The best thing about Kevin's Visor: the batteries are rechargable.
The worst thing about my Visor: we changed our computer set ups in our house and I can't put it on the cradle yet to upload my files and the batteries are dying so I can't use it again until we get the computer fixed and I can upload my files from it and change the batteries. :)

Hey Adrienne -- you have a good minute or so for you to swap batteries. You can do that at any time and not have to worry about losing data. Don't let your inability to hotsync keep you from using it! You can also consider buying rechargeable batteries. I also think there's a company that makes a "permament" battery for your Deluxe, that you then plug in to recharge in a cradle gadget.
If you like to use it for shopping, there are a couple of good (free) shop list applications you can download. One I use regularly is called ShopList (http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?sid=83721520011212160059&prodID=978) and it lets you maintain a master list of stuff you buy, and then you can jot down what you need. Works great.
I know a few folks who use both a handheld and a Franklin. Some of the women here at work even has a Franklin program that lets her print her schedule out from her Visor to print out to Franklin-sized sheets of paper.
By the way Adrienne, what size Franklin do you use?
Dlandmom 01-03-2002, 02:22 PM Yes, Adrienne! You have time to swap out batteries without losing info, at least in my experience! If you've got the replacement batteries laid out, it won't take you but 5-10 seconds to swap out the old and put in the new. I haven't lost any info yet!
I used to be a Franklin addict...although I don't use my Handspring as much as I should/could, I find that the size just makes my Franklin obsolete!
adriennek 01-03-2002, 04:17 PM Ah, thank you, Lani, Queen of the Handspring People ;)
I found our Visors came in very handy as we were Christmas shopping-- to keep track of what we had for who and what we still needed to buy, or what we needed to go back later and buy when little eyes weren't present...
I use a 'classic' size Franklin. I really like it. I like that it's big, too, so I can find it easily..... I kinda use my Visor as my "Franklin Light." If I'm going to a business meeting, I take my Franklin. At home, I use my Franklin. If I need to have quick reference phone numbers that aren't in my cell phone or I need to have or make quick lists, I use my Visor.
I'm so glad to know the info about the batteries. Like I said, my Visor was free-- a very generous person I know shared it with me when he upgraded his--so it's not something that I've ever taken time to learn about or read an instruction manual for. That and I have these people in my life that are trying to convert me.... but I won't mention any names.... I'm kinda learning as I go :)
