Universal Studios Hollywood Adds Movie Sets From Steven Spielberg's 'War of the Worlds' to Its World-Famous, Behind-the-Scenes Studio Tour

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Feb. 9 -- The original movie sets from Steven Spielberg's highly anticipated film, "War of the Worlds," are the latest feature to be added to Universal Studios Hollywood behind-the-scenes Studio Tour, the theme park's signature attraction which immerses guests in the authentic Hollywood experience.

Guests aboard the popular Studio Tour tram ride will traverse a key scene from "War of the Worlds," depicting a small town devastated by an elaborately choreographed 747 jetliner crash. The town's facade is dramatically surrounded by wreckage and debris resulting from a Martian attack.

In addition, Studio Tour guests will get up-close views of other movie sets located along the landscape that adjoins the "War of the Worlds" sets. These include the dinosaur-destroyed research laboratory compound from "Jurassic Park: The Lost World," the snow-covered town of Whoville from "Dr. Seuss' The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" and the Psycho house and Bates motel from the classic thriller, "Psycho."

The world-renowned Studio Tour takes guests on a 45-minute journey through Universal's 415-acres of movie making magic. Highlights include a vast array of sets, themed streets, soundstages and facades featured in thousands of motion and television productions as well as signature special effects attractions such as "Earthquake," King Kong," Flash Flood" and "Jaws."

Can anyone with a USH AP go and get pics of the War of the Worlds pieces? I would love to see them, but I don't have the time or money to drive up to LA right now.

I saw the pics of the War of the Worlds set in Darkbeer's gallery. Dang! The attention to details -- no wonder the budgets are so stinking high! With all the money the investors pored into getting that destroyed airplane as detailed as possible with seats and toilet sinks for probably one shot of screen time. And all those destroyed used cars! Sheesh!

Actually, they're finally copping to what that crashed-airplane construction is. (The LIttle tods and I thought it might have been for Jurassic Park 4.)

Guests aboard the popular Studio Tour tram ride will traverse a key scene from "War of the Worlds," depicting a small town devastated by an elaborately choreographed 747 jetliner crash.

And now the Tour Guides won't try and direct guests' attention elsewhere. That 747 just missed the old Bates place.

In addition, Studio Tour guests will get up-close views of other movie sets located along the landscape that adjoins the "War of the Worlds" sets. Some of which have been there for decades. The Grinch sets back up against the Bates Motel, and both have been off-limits for months while War of the Worlds was in production. Here (http://miceage.com/allutz/al122104f.htm) are some more pictures of the construction taken around Christmas.

They filmed some scenes for WOTW near here. I went to the open call for extras but didn't get picked. The movie looks interesting, but I'm not a big Tom Cruise fan so I'll probably wait to see how the reviews look.

It's not my type of movie (and a plane crash to boot!!) but I cannot resist the power of Tom. *le sigh*
