View Full Version : Minor help with firefox
efoxx 02-09-2005, 01:11 PM we decided to try firefox. I know a few of you out there have been using it. I have a question. on firefox I try to log somebody out (wfoxx) to log me in, but it doesn't work. how do I successfully log out and log in of mp on firefox?
Bill Catherall 02-09-2005, 01:22 PM You don't see the logout link up at the top right corner of the screen? The link bar should read:
User CP, FAQ, Member List, Subscribe, Calendar, New Posts, Search, Quick Links, Log Out
Click that and you are logged out. When you return to MousePad there should be a login box in the top right corner.
Alex S. 02-09-2005, 01:28 PM Can't help. I use Firefox and just logged out fine.
Hakuna Makarla 02-09-2005, 04:14 PM see there is some weird problems with fire fox. I still can not cut and paste nor delete the headings in my title bar ( in private mesages. there adding up!

As I said in another thread, I really doubt Firefox is to blame with that. I think something major is wrong with your computer.
Alex S. 02-09-2005, 06:47 PM The copy and paste thing might be firefox related. Every once in a while I experience severe lag in paste when I'm pasting something copied from a firefox window.
It doesn't happen enough that I've sought out a solution, but it does happen.
Hakuna Makarla 02-09-2005, 07:45 PM Thanks Alex, I am not sure I ever really had problems with IE, but again my memory is so lame! But I like firefox, I use them both. One problem in firefox is it sometimes forgets my pass words, no biggie, they are stored in IE
Javanod 02-09-2005, 09:56 PM how do I successfully log out and log in of mp on firefox?
Is there a mouseplanet message/page appearing saying you had trouble logging out? Or are you not able to see the Log Out link? The first situation can be related to "cookies," and your Firefox may be set up to handle them differently than IE.
Let us know what happens or if you figure it out!
efoxx 02-10-2005, 09:24 AM the log out button appears, I log Wfoxx out as normal, select go to forum index, and when I get there Wfoxx is still logged in.
any ideas?
efoxx 02-10-2005, 09:26 AM just did the same thing on my lap top, the one I am typing on now, and the same thing occured. when I went back to the index it showed me still logged in, and all my threads were marked as read.
Bill Catherall 02-10-2005, 09:42 AM Do you get the logout prompt asking if you really want to logout? If so, are you redirected to the logout confirmation screen?
After you return to MousePad and see you're still logged in, have you tried clicking on the refresh button?
What are your cookie settings? Go to Tools -> Options, click on the Privacy button on the left and click on the > arrow next to Cookies. Are sites allowed to set cookies? What about keeping cookies?
efoxx 02-10-2005, 11:17 AM yes I get the prompt asking if I really want to log out.
tried the refresh button, no good. infact I am typing this right after I went through the log out proceedure.
cookies set to allow sights to set cookies.
also when I log out using IE I show myself logged out there, but then I launch firefoxx and it shows me logged in.
Alex S. 02-10-2005, 12:02 PM Do you have other web sites you log into? Can you log out of those ok?
If you go to Tools --> Options --> Privacy --> Cookies --> View Cookies you'll get a list of cookis organized by site. Scroll down that list to mousepad.mouseplanet.com.
You'll see at least six there:
bblastvisit
bblastactivity
bbuserid
bbpassword
bbsessionhash
bbthread_lastview
There may be a seventh (something like bbforum_view). Check that those are all there. When you log out bbuserid and bbpassword should be removed from the list.
Confirm they're all there now and try logging out. Since you're still able to access as you, presumably they'll all be there afterward, but check.
Then go to another website. At that time select all of the MousePad cookies and then click Remove Cookie. They'll all be gone and if you go to MousePad you should be completely logged out.
Try logging in, logging out, and logging in and see if it working normally now.
Bill Catherall 02-10-2005, 12:05 PM also when I log out using IE I show myself logged out there, but then I launch firefoxx and it shows me logged in.
That's because the cookies used for IE and Firefox are separate. If you log out using IE it doesn't update the Firefox cookie. So if you were never logged out properly using Firefox, the cookie still thinks you're logged in.
What OS are you using?
efoxx 02-10-2005, 01:09 PM Ok I manually deleted the above cookies and Wfoxx was logged out. after logging myself back in and out a few times it seems to be working now.
thanks guys
Javanod 02-10-2005, 01:23 PM I guess the frosting on those cookies was still damp and they got stuck to the floor of your computer ;)
Glad it's working again.
Andrew 02-10-2005, 01:59 PM Mmm, cookies.
That is all.
Alex S. 02-10-2005, 02:21 PM Glad worked. Of course, I have no idea why it worked.
