Share your healthy breakfast noshes here!

Lately, I've been craving pink grapefruit with a sprinkle of sugar. I've also discovered low fat muesli mixed with a little bit of Uncle Sam's (http://www.usmillsinc.com/usmills/productview_description.php?id=124&back=BisLJVMjADwNZ1E7UTsGdwEoUCIDNwo9UHEGN1U7VChQI gk6BHcIZlEwUCRWMVE9UzFUaFA0).
I know that Uncle Sam's is a little higher in fat/cals than I like, but the fiber brings the points down. And, it keeps me full for quite awhile~if I eat this at 7:00am, I can go until 12:00ish without feeling hungry. It seems to also help with my hypoglycemia on those days that I know I won't have time to eat until later in the afternoon.

So, how have you been starting off your day?

My usual is a protein shake with 3 Tbsp of ground flax seed and a bowl of whole grain oatmeal. Sometimes 2-3 eggs, fried, with hot sauce. If I have some good fresh fruit on hand I'll chop it up and mix it in with the oatmeal. Either bananas or peaches. Sometimes a few raisins. But if nothing is available or I don't have the time to chop I'll just eat it plain.

On the weekends I'll sometimes make omlettes: egg, cheese, tomatoes, asparagus.

My favorite kinds of cold cereal are loaded in sugar, so I usually don't let myself eat them unless it's a special treat/cheat. But I do like All Bran which is a healthier cold cereal.

3 Tbsp of ground flax

That's what I put on my oatmeal or quinoa, along with a leetle brown sugar and 1% milk. I save the fruit for mid-morning.

On weekends, Mr. 3894 makes his divine whole wheat waffles or pancakes. We eat them with his homemade applesauce, maybe a couple of strips of low-sodium bacon.

Yum.

i agree with breakfast being the most important meal. its sad to see people trying to lose weight start with skipping breakfast, which is the last meal you want to skip. In fact, skipping breakfast is counter-productive because your body learns it won't get renourished in the morning, and starts teaching itself to store energy as fat - that's why its the most important meal.

i grew up with having both a yellow grapefruit and a pink grapefruit tree in our backyard in the Palm Spring area. Our pink grapefruit was so sweet, you didn't even need sugar! I love grapefruit!

My favorite cereal these days is Quaker's Mutligrain hot cereal - not only does it have oats, but it has rolled rye, barley and wheat so you get the benefits of all four grains. I try to eat some eggs each week too, but lately have been avoiding the bacon and sausage. I miss it, but the health benefits of avoiding it outweigh the taste.

And i love fruit juice - orange, grape, and grapefruit especially. Lastly of course is hot green tea, or black tea. :)

I always start with coffee:D

Then, I might have a banana and a lowfat yoghurt, or a cinnaon raisin bagel with a very small amount of butter. Occassionally if I'm in a hury I have a smoothie or something similar. Occassionally I get a yoghurt and stewed fruit or berries with muesli thing from the cafe down the road.

During the weekends we tend to have brunch. Occassionally I have pancakes or french toast, and sometimes corn fritters or something similar - it just depends. But always coffee:D

Great topic, kisroo!
Lately, I've been craving pink grapefruit with a sprinkle of sugar. If you substitute the sugar with a packet of Splenda, it will be even better.

My standard breakfasts are:

- One crunchy low-carb Strive bar (http://biochem-fitness.com/pages/bars_main.html). I buy these from Trader Joe's by the box, but they don't carry all the flavors. I wish they carried the Toffee Caramel and the Mochaccino flavors, as they sound soooo good. These are convenient to eat, and I usually have them with a cup of decaf (with some packets of Splenda and a couple of tablespoons of half & half -- yes, those contain fat, but it's one of my indulgences)

- A half a cup of chopped fresh fruit (usually strawberries and grapes) with a serving of cottage cheese, mixed with a packet of Splenda.

- Low-carb Special K cereal with a serving of Splenda-sweetened yogurt instead of milk. VERY filling and lots of crunch for the mouth. Yum!

- Two over-easy eggs and two sausages: This is my Atkins stand-by. I don't even these quite as often, but I still do sometimes.

In fact, skipping breakfast is counter-productive because your body learns it won't get renourished in the morning, and starts teaching itself to store energy as fat - that's why its the most important meal. It's also important to start the digestive process started early in the morning, especially if you're going to work out. That way your body's already using up calories in the digestion process. Even if it's just a few bites of food.

Thanks Lani! I'll have to give Splenda a try.

My brekkie this am~
Heart Smart Oatmeal (high fiber, low calorie) with slivered almonds sprinkled on top.
Sara Lee Delightful whole wheat bagel with a tsp of PB and a 1/2 banana on top.

Coffee with a smidge of Allann Bros. powdered espresso chocolate mixed in.

Running out the door to work for my looooooong Tuesday and had to have a good start!

Happy Tuesday everyone,

I eat lunch-type sandwiches almost every day for breakfast. Nature's Own whole wheat bread, 2 slices turkey or ham, mustard, lots of lettuce, and tomato. Sometimes low-fat cheese instead. I also have a pickle (weird breakfast food, I know) and a points' worth of pretzels (crave the crunch).

Once in a while, I'll make an omelette with Egg Beaters and fat-free cheese, along with Canadian bacon and toast.

The only cereal I like is Cracklin' Oat Bran, which I eat dry as a snack. I have to limit myself carefully, though, I like it too much.

If I work out in the morning I'm usually starving so I have a soy sausage scramble with mushrooms. If I don't have enough time to cook, I usually run out the door with a protein shake.

It's also important to start the digestive process started early in the morning, especially if you're going to work out. That way your body's already using up calories in the digestion process. Even if it's just a few bites of food.

Working out in the morning also helps. It gets the body's metabolism going and works throughout the day. Something as simple as a walk or jog around the block should do the trick.

Always some kind of yoghurt - regular or soy. Gotta get the calcium and protein in. Always some kind of fruit. Strawberries today. :) And then either cereal mixed in with my yogurt (so I don't have to drink milk) or a piece of toast with light butter.

Coffee & either oatmeal (or grits), a small omelette (spinach, tomato, mushroom, onion &/or cheese is good), breakfast sandwich, or, if in need of a jolt, a Pop Tart or donut. That's when I'm at work.

Once in a while, usually on weekends, I enjoy chicken & waffles, catfish & grits, or some sort of breakfast platter. Hash browns.....mmmmmmmm......

Cold cereal is fun any time of day. I usually enjoy whole grain-type cereals (Uncle Sam is an old favorite), with fruit if possible, or, if I'm in a kid cereal mood, preferably something with chocolate in it.

I'm not usually "a breakfast person"...Actually, most of my life I have hated breakfast and have had to force myself to eat in the morning before work/school/whatever. That said, I try and eat things that are "Easy" to eat but keep me full for awhile, a perfect example of this is chicken noodle soup. if I'm in a huge rush I'll drain out the brothy part into a travel mug and drink it on my way to school.

Lately I've been eating oatmeal in the mornings or a few handfulls of almonds with my morning drink of choice.

I'm also known to drink OJ and pineapple juice mixed together (can't do straight oj very well) which is a welcomed twist on morning fluids.

...if in need of a jolt, a Pop Tart or donut. That's when I'm at work.
When you have your Pop-Tarts, do you eat just one, or both from a packet? I almost keeled over when I found out Kellogg's only considers ONE Pop-Tart as a serving. So if you eat one packet, you're eating two servings... and each one is usually around 200 calories and 40 grams of carbs!

I do realize, though, that they make GREAT emergency food. When Floridians had to take cover during last year's hurricanes, there was a run on plywood... and Pop-Tarts! It keeps forever, and can be eaten without cooking or other preparation.

I usually have two of the following for my breakfast/mid-morning snack:

~ some kind of granola/Pria bar type thing. (at home, I heat up the Nurti-grain type and add a dallop of FF Cool Whip)
~ instant oatmeal with a squeeze of peanut butter for staying power
~ cereal with Lite yogurt instead of milk
~ Great Western bagel and Lite Laughing Cow cheese.

Mmm mmm mmm!

Yummy, PapiBear! Every Sunday we snarf on Mickey Mouse waffles, real butter, and several varieties of syrup. With coffee and espresso powdered chocolate or mexi-chocolate. Yum. Sundays is a "no-points" zone. I have to have one day off at least. ;)

On "special" occasions we splurge on the following:
~huge, dripping with icing cinnamon roll, and just to even all that sugar/carbs out, we add chicken sausage (Mr kisroo usually has some eggs and a Mexi-mocha with this combo. I stick with the chicken sausage and an Americano.) No worries, though. This happens about 1x/every 4 months (usually a holiday like Christmas eve, New Years, or Easter...) and if I'm careful the day before and the day after, I can stay within my points range!

My breakfasts sort of vary from day to day. Somedays I have a whole wheat english muffin with either peanut butter or low fat cream cheese. I try to have yogurt every morning. Sometimes I have low fat, low carb sausage with yogurt and sometimes I have Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal. If I am not hungry, I will just eat some special K with skim milk. I never leave the house without having breakfast. I know it is the most important meal of the day. I try to have larger lunches and lighter dinners then too. So even if I am not hungry, most of the time I am not lately due to my cold, I eat something. I like quick and easy. On the weekends we splurge on Sundays usually with Mickey Mouse waffles (have one of the waffle irons), eggs, low fat, low carb sausage and yogurt.

My favorite is steel cut Irish Oatmeal with a brown sugar, a bit of fat free half and half and a tiny bit of butter (I used to like it with lots of butter, but those days are gone... :crying: )

And a cup of breakfast tea. Although lately I've been really rushed and I've discovered those McDonald's fruit and yogurt parfaits.

The best breakfast "splurge"? Anything Mexican...a plate of machaca and I'm a very happy camper...

I really like cinnamon raisin granola bars. The ones I get have 140 calories and 3 grams of fat. They fill me up long enough to get to lunch time.

Coffee and 1 scrambled egg with 2 egg whites :)

Sometimes if I don't have time for eggs, I will munch on a 1/2 c. of dry Fiber One cereal. No points :D
