View Full Version : Legoland for Adults?
lilblckrncloud 02-02-2005, 08:22 AM I am hoping for some advice from the Legoland experts out there. I went once with a friend when it first opened, but I haven't been back since. I really enjoyed it, and as I recall we were able to make a day of it, even though we had no children with us. Well, I have finally convinced my husband to go this weekend, because I really think he will be impressed with Miniland and everything else they do with the Legos there. However, as the day draws nearer I am starting to get worried that he will find the place lame and childish. Logically I know he will be game for anything, and at the very least he will enjoy walking around looking at everything, but I just don't want him to be bored out of his gourd.
I also have a specific question about this Mindstorm thing. Will they look at us weird if two adults sign up for it alone? Everything I have read about it gives me the impression that it skews older, but I want to make sure.
Someone, please - reassure me! Give me some good tips on enjoying Legoland without kids!
Thanks in advance!
Darkbeer 02-02-2005, 12:26 PM I have been there a few times, it is mainly a kids park, but it can be OK for adults,...
If he enjoys a beer, there is a restaurant in the back that offers beer and wine with purchase of a meal (No buying beer by itself).
And after your day at LEGOLAND, you could always visit the Karl Strauss Brewing Company...
GO and have fun!!!!!! Worst thing you will have to do is kiss and make up.....;)

I've only been to Legoland once (we want to go back but haven't been able to fit it into our schedule), and there were 8 of us, I think, all adults. We had a great time, and we still didn't get to see everything. We didn't end up going on very many of the rides because we didn't follow the advice to do the rides first and then go see Miniland. We were so enthralled with Miniland that we pretty much spent all day there, and by the time we thought about doing rides, most of the lines were longer than we were willing to wait in. I guess whether your husband will be bored will depend on whether he's interested in Miniland. There's a lot to see, with lots of details. You could easily spend all day just looking at all that stuff. It looks pretty awesome at night lit up too.
Have fun!

Have fun!See, that is EXACTLY what I was thinking when I orginally planned this excursion, so I am not sure what I am getting myself worried about now! I know for a fact he will be impressed and intrigued by all the cool things to look at, so I know I shouldn't worry.
Thanks for the reassurance, cstephens, and thanks for your tips, Darkbeer! We are staying the night in Carlsbad after our day at the park, so we will have a whole open evening to spend and I am looking for other stuff to do as well. And of course there will be plenty of time to kiss... whether or not we need to make up! ;)
lilblckrncloud 02-07-2005, 10:36 AM UPDATE: Legoland was very nice - cool weather, very small crowd. Unfortunately, we did not get to do the MindStorms thing because the guy was a JERK when we tried to make a reservation for a class. It was the very first thing we did, so I walked up and the guy just kinda stared at me. I said hi, and still got no response. I asked if we could sign up for a class, and he went into this spiel about how it's for kids 9 and older to take a class and build a robot and blah blah blah. So I asked, "Right, but can we do it if we're adults?" and he screwed his face all up as though I had asked if we could take a dump in his lap and he said, "Well, it's REALLY for the kids..." I was so embarassed that I just said, "Ok, thanks!" and walked out! I'm not bitter if it really is only for kids, but just the way he treated us was so embarassing. It wasn't even crowded either, so I'm sure he could have let us do it and see for ourselves if we thought it was lame for adults.
Despite that bad start to the day, we did end up having a very nice time. I could tell my husband was humoring me during some parts, but he was extremely impressed by Miniland as well as the Art exhibit. We had a blast just watching the kids at the Driving School. That was hilarious! We were actually surprised at how well some of them handled the steering and stayed in their own lanes.
All in all the trip as a whole was a success. We stayed at the Garden Inn Hilton, which was very nice, ate at Claim Jumper, and did some outlet shopping in the evening, so I really doubt we could have had a bad time if we tried!
I am glad my husband got to see Legoland, but I doubt we will go back unless there's something major that they add or change.
sdfilmcritic 02-07-2005, 03:53 PM So the MC (Model Citizen for LEGOland employees) at the Mindstorms area treated you like poo? One time I had gone to LLC with three friends of mine. All of us are in our twenties and we had no problem fitting right in with the other participants at the Mindstorms and also the Build And Test areas. You should have reported this guy to Guest Services. Even better yet you should write a letter to the park if you remember the guy's name that would be helpful. The address is something like LEGOland, CA 1 Lego Drive, Carlsbad, CA and I can't remember the zip code, but you could look that up on the internet yellow pages really easy.

I really think my husband would have enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I didn't get the guy's name and I would never have dreamed of complaining because he seriously treated us like we were asking something so ridiculous and out of the question that we just wanted to get out of there and pretend it never happened. :(
bradk 02-07-2005, 09:21 PM well it's a good thing i'm only going there to dig up dinosaurs
(very ecstatic as i learned costco.com sells legoland tickets for $10 less than normal price!)
