QuikQuote: Walt Disney Co. said it filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission to sell as much as $5 billion of securities.
Burbank-based Disney said it would use the proceeds for general corporate purposes, which may include reducing short-term debt and funding acquisitions.

Gotta pay Eisner's undeserved bonuses somehow.
Gotta buy something worthless for $1 billion.
Gotta pay poorly designed severence packages.
So, what is it planning to buy? Pixar?

Doubt they are going to buy another Theme Park Company or any assets.
I don't know that any Cable or TV Stations are looking to be bought.
But I am not sure if Steve Jobs will allow Disney to take over PIXAR.....

1. I agree. Turning any other amusement park into a Disney Theme Park would cost as much as making one from scratch.
2. Geez I completely forgot about wasting money on a cable network that does not create synergy, only exploiting long-term value.
3. Everyone has a price. No one else is going to pick up (and run with) the Pixar distribution contract, with Disney profiting from the perception that every Pixar film is a Disney film. I think the Pixar ideas being bandied about in the theme parks really shows how Disney can make these characters last forever. No one else can do this. Not even Pixar alone. Disney has to give in on some of the negotiations, as does Pixar. Owning it would make everything a lot easier, although Jobs' main fear is probably that Pixar as we know it would be destroyed. Doesn't prevent him from making a new studio, though.
