I was looking for some advice from all you WDW Marathon runners out there.

I’ve been asked to draw up a bit of a program for a friend of mine to get him into shape to run a half marathon in mid December this year (Wants to be able to do it before the end of the year). I’ve done a number of halves myself but due to the fact I’ve been competitively swimming since I was 7 and had professionals help with exercise programs due to my Waterpolo rep stuff I’ve never had to think about how I would start the fitness program, it's just kinda happened (I know, you all hate me but I bet you don't when you were in bed and I was swimming for 3 hours before school).

I‘m really keen to help him out as he’s a good friend and I’m really keen to see him prove to himself he can do it and see him get in to shape. At the moment I’d say that he has problems getting from one power pole to another so he really will be starting from scratch (Though we went walking with him last night and we walked for 30 minutes without an issue).

I was wondering if anyone has a plan that we could use or any good websites that helped you etc.

Thanks heaps everyone in advance.

Both Hal Higdon and Jeff Galloway are good. Galloway uses a jog/walk format, while Higdon just gets you going slow.

Specifically, the following is his half-marathon training schedule. Your friend can use the novice schedule:

http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/index.htm

I've trained using Higdon's intermediate training schedule, and it's pretty good. For our 2003 Disney Marathon, we used the novice full schedule from him, too.

Galloway's is here:

Thanks Lani, both those links are excellent. I've talked to my old fitness co ordinator and he recons it is a rally good start. He's added a few more weeks in since he has so much time which basically see him doing less at the beginning (Basically a month of walking and getting used to streching etc) and about 6 weeks at the end which will have seen him do a practice event 4 weeks before hand and then slowly build up again for the event itself.

Thank you heaps for the great links :)

I belong to a running group here in LA (so does hubby). we both use the jeff galloway method..partly because we feel it is a great way to run/walk but also he is a good friend of my husbands.

I havent done ANY serious running for a few years now though. I did my first and only 1/2 marathon when I lived in Vacnvouer canada about 6 eyars ago. Boy did I feel great afterwards..I felt like I accomplished something

My hubby also does the LA marathon here in March...I dont think I could ever run 26.2 miles

I commend you for doing the walt disney world 1/2/....way to0 go
