kisroo 01-22-2005, 11:44 AM kisroo- you are just thinspirational getting up at 5:00 to work out!
Or just "obsessional"! Actually, I'm a creature of habit. This works in my favor when it's a good habit. Not so much if it's a bad one! ;)
Way to go this am, disney jones! One of my "habits" is making Mickey Mouse waffles every Sunday for hubby and I. It's my weekend splurge! :)
Doing a personal (i.e., at home-not at a meeting) WI tomorrow~I am hoping I at least remained steady this week. I've added quite a bit of strength training but don't expect to see results for a few weeks. My goal is to eventually continue to lose another few pounds so I'll be slightly below my WW goal. But mostly, I'd really like to see some more toning in my legs and arms.
Those are my longer term goals. Do you guys have similar ones?
Have a healthy weekend!
~kisroo:)
TrekkieDad 01-22-2005, 10:37 PM It's the weekend again, but it's still overcast here with temps in the 40s day and night. Several of us drove up to the hills above the clouds, and that made all the difference in the world. Two of us opted for the 30-mile route. I chose it because I am planning to ride 55 miles tomorrow.
I went to a Chinese buffet for dinner with some cycling friends. I did what I could to stick to lighter fare--sushi, fish, vegetables, etc., had bites of salmon, flounder, eel, tuna. This place was pretty authentic (didn't eat the chicken feet), located in a strip mall with Asian businesses, including a supermarket with many foods I hadn't seen before.
I looking forward to tomorrow's ride--it's a scenic route that includes part of the Pacific coast--and we've been promised sunshine.
disney jones 01-23-2005, 06:19 PM another nice warm day in the desert Sunday. i got on the bike again and did 13 miles this time. with my schedule, i can ride Sun, Mon, and Tue only, so i'll try to get back on the bike tomorrow afternoon before work.
i haven't been to the fitness room since last October, right before i got a cold. that knocked me off my routine which i had going for several months. it's sad, but i haven't been back, but now i'll have to start again.
i ate pretty healthy all weekend too, but i just can't seem to shake losing these last 5 lbs i've been trying to do since last summer. but thanks to this thread, i'm determined to do it, through both regular exercise and a more moderate diet! :)
TrekkieDad 01-23-2005, 07:24 PM Today was 56 miles with 4500' of climbing. 7 riders, including a guest who once won the Race Across America (RAAM). They were all stronger climbers than me, so I was the anchor most of the day. (I can make up some of it going downhill.) :)
We started out in the fog, but broke out of it after a few miles of climbing. The other side of the ridge was sunny, except for fog right along the coast. We had deli sandwiches (turkey, no mayo) in a small coastal village.
There's probably more climbing on the way back, but at the top of the hill, some kids were raising money for Tsunami victims by selling baked goods. So, of course I had to have a brownie.
We were on the road from about six hours, but only 4:08 was actual rolling time, according to my bike computer.
TrekkieDad 01-23-2005, 07:33 PM another nice warm day in the desert Sunday. i got on the bike again and did 13 miles this time. with my schedule, i can ride Sun, Mon, and Tue only, so i'll try to get back on the bike tomorrow afternoon before work.
Any day you can ride your bike is a good day! Let's see... 3 days/week @ 13 miles/day...by the end of the year you will have cycled...2028 miles! But I suspect if you keep it up, you'll find ways to ride more days and for longer distances. ;)
Somewhere I read that cycling burns about 30 Cal/mile on average--that's over 60,000 Calories a year at your current rate of riding.
MouseWife 01-24-2005, 04:25 PM I'm back! Trying to stay focused and commited.
All of the bike talk has me eyeing the trails around here, the easy ones to start off with, of course.
I also wish I had the opportunity to do my walk at Disneyland.
I have gotten pretty much back on track but I am not running or doing my full weight training. I am hoping that keeping those out, for now, will get me over any plataues that I {hopefully I will be losing a few pounds to get to one, that is}get to.
I am trying to drink tea, I actually have a lot but I just go for the coffee.
kisroo~ on top of wanting to see the numbers go down, I want to firm up the usual trouble areas.
We picked up more Tae Bo but I want to try Richard Simmons. Does anyone use his tapes? They look like a lot of fun.

Welcome back MouseWife!

I hear you on those "trouble areas". Ugh.
I am really loving a toning dvd that I picked up recently. It's called the QuickFix Total Mix. It has 9 different 10 minute sections that you can mix and match into a 10,20,or 30 minute toning workout. The sections include: Abs flex, Abs crunch, Abs burn; Buns toner, Buns firmer, Buns shaper; and Arms/Legs combo, Leg blaster, and Arm toner. I'm really digging it. I like that I can mix it up and it makes me do something in the way of toning every day, even if I only have 20 minutes to do it. All you need is a mat and weights. Nothing fancy.
And I also love any of Tami Lee Webb's dvds.
I did just "ok" on the eating today, but really did well on the exercise front.
Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone!

:lookingaroundforRenta: ;)
MouseWife 01-24-2005, 11:24 PM kisroo~ thanks for noticin'. :fez:
That sounds like something I could use. I will write that down...I think it is good to have it broken up because AND on DVD. If ya know what I mean about that! VHS sucks for that sort of thing. Thanks for the ideas. :)
Well, if you've exercised, that is a positive. I wouldn't worry too much about the eating. I mean, yes, do but not too much. I think when you exercise, it makes you feel better and then you start to think, I don't really need that food item. I put too much effort into exercise to put that into this mouth. ;)
I tell ya, going to the market and walking past the candy at the check-out? I do have my favorites....
Tomorrow, tomorrow, there's always tomorrow.... :D
rentayenta 01-25-2005, 02:53 PM Hi. I'm fat and I'm here to stay :D
MouseWife 01-25-2005, 03:57 PM Hi. I'm fat and I'm here to stay :D
LOL Oh no you don't! You are the one who had size 2 Gap Jeans!! I have NEVER been a size two except when I was probably 1 year old.
You don't want to be a two again but don't give up on hanging with us!
disney jones 01-25-2005, 08:00 PM nice of you to drop by, yenta. :)
(Need we remind you that you started this thread??? )
I haven't got back on the bike, but i got over to the workout room yesterday for the first time since Oct, and did the cross-trainer for 20 minutes, then some weights. today i'm recovering, but i hope to get back into that routine and plan another visit tomorrow.
I had dinner at Rubio's last night and going again now - they have some tasty "Health-Mex" chicken tacos and burritos, low in fat. Rubio's has some great food and i eat there a lot - it's a chain of mexican food places like 'Baja Fresh' and their specialty is baja-style fish tacos.
TrekkieDad 01-25-2005, 08:01 PM It was supposed to rain today, so I didn't ride to work. The weather looked ok, and I was able to leave early, so I went home, put new pedals on one of the bikes and took it out for a test ride.
About 3 miles out, I headed back home because one of the shoes didn't feel right; there was this lump sticking up in my foot. At home, I got removed the cleat and fixed the problem, but now it was 4:30, so I had to do a short run.
It wasn't a total loss. I got in 16.5 miles, and the shoes and new pedals are working great. (The pedals were a semi-impulse buy. I'd been thinking of getting new ones of this make, and these were an on-line special at 70% off.)
The rest of the week looks to be rainy, but I'm hoping it will be a dry (and sunny) weekend. There's about 90+ miles on the schedule.
Better riding weather is just around the corner! :)
TrekkieDad 01-25-2005, 08:14 PM Hi. I'm fat and I'm here to stay :D
Yesterday was supposed to be the most depressing day of the year (according to some doctor in the UK), because it's around that day that many people give up on their New Year's resolutions.
Around here people start to show signs of SAD, because of all the consecutive gray, foggy days. It may not snow around here, but two weeks of gloom starts to take its toll on people's disposition.
Now's the time to stiffen your resolve. Make it through the next few weeks, and all will seem worth it.

Very interesting, Trekkie! Thanks for the reminder. It takes, what? 1 day to gain a bad habit and a cazillion days to build a good one?
Anyway, thanks for the encouragement~I needed it today.
I hate my Tuesdays. Unless I get to the gym right at 5:00am OR I have an early mtg, my workout gets all messed up. I did make it at 5, but I also had an early mtg, so I didn't have time to do my strength training/toning today.
Then, I go straight from work to a college course I have to take to keep my teaching license up....from 4:30-7:30....1/2 hour from my home. So, I end up not eating until after 8:00. I've tried packing dinners, but unless I am able to sit and focus on my eating, I find that I feel like I haven't really had dinner. And, then I eat more when I get home. UGH!
OK~done venting now. I should just keep reminding myself to "stay the course".
AND RENTA!!!!!! ARGH, girl!!! None of that kinda talk around here! You'll do it. You'll stay with it. If you don't, I will have to come to DL in March just to kick your little butt. (And, I do mean LITTLE, if you have worn a size 2!) ;) Check your PM, dearie.
It's Weds tomorrow! Yay! Have a good one.
~kisroo:)
brazen wench 01-28-2005, 02:00 PM brazen wench (cute name, btw!)
Sheesh, I just noticed this. Some people here just love that hairy leg, but it's a wench's life for me! Thanks :).
If anyone loves this childhood memory as much as I do, Hawaiian Punch has a new light version with only 10 cal per serving (I think they had an older light formula, but it was still too fattening). The new one has a definite Splenda taste, but it's nostalgically good.
Some other new stuff I've tried:
The new Lean Cuisine Spa Cuisines--so far, did not like the Lemongrass Chicken at all. DH likes the Mediterranean Chicken. Have a bunch more kinds to get through.
Lean Pockets Ultras--like these.
Kellogg's Frosted Mini-Wheats Vanilla Creme cereal--like it too much.
Blue Bunny Sweet Freedom White Chocolate Almond Lites--ice cream bars, nice to have something new and a little different.
Soon it will be wenching time, which is my WW version of a Margarita: tequila, club soda, and lime juice. On Friday, food is secondary ;).

Have a bunch more kinds to get through.I've been going through these too. I really liked the lemongrass chicken, but it's definitely got a Thai flavor to it. My favorite so far is the salmon with orzo. Yum! I didn't see the Med. chicken in my store. I'll have to look for that one. :)
Bill Catherall 01-28-2005, 03:15 PM Just in case everyone thinks I'm no longer "playing," I'm still with ya. I've been doing my best with eating right, but exercise has been hard to get in. Still in the habit of staying up late watching TV (too many good shows on and lots of stuff coming in from Netflix). Then, I'm too busy working around the house or helping with the kids in the evenings to visit the gym at that time. If I don't workout in the mornings it just doesn't happen.

The salmon is my favorite, too. I like Thai food, but I could taste this one a little too long after the box was in the trash ;).
TrekkieDad 01-29-2005, 03:55 PM Time to check in with today's miles. Today was a route we frequently ride: "Plymouth for coffee." It's a real favorite, with just enough rolling terrain for a decent workout, so we had a group of around 15 moderate to fast riders. Sunny weather, a little cool, but otherwise perfect. I averaged a respectable 16.4 mph.
Scheduled for tomorrow is a tougher ride--more miles, bigger hills, and rougher roads. Should be fun.
I hope the rest of you are keeping up with your programs.
stan4d_steph 01-29-2005, 04:25 PM The salmon is my favorite, too. I like Thai food, but I could taste this one a little too long after the box was in the trash ;).Funny! I hear you on that one. I've had that problem before.
TrekkieDad 01-30-2005, 04:57 PM Today's ride ended up at just over 49 miles. 15 riders started, two turned around a few miles out, and two backtracked from about 20 miles out. The highlight of this ride is "Middle Bar." It's a one-lane bumpy descent into a remote canyon followed by a long climb out the other side. At the bottom is a bridge and a "take-out point" for rafters.
January is ending soon, so I guess we'd better close this thread and start one for February. Who's still keeping to their diet/exercise plans?
rentayenta 01-30-2005, 06:29 PM Good idea Trekkie! Maybe ask a mod to close the other one so they don't get merged together???
I am so back OP tomorrow. I have been a little piggy lately :( I have to work at the hospital tomorrow and its very easy to stay OP there. The food is bleh!

Oh, I feel so much better with you saying that. I was about to post that I haven't been here much because my good intentions ended up in the proverbial handbasket the last couple of weeks. But I was back at the meeting on Saturday morning, got back on with e-tools so I can journal on computer and am back OP today! I was kind of journaling in my head the last couple of weeks and went up .8 pounds. Live and learn.
I'm still trying to decide if I should join the Y or Curves though.

Hakuna Makarla 01-31-2005, 10:06 AM I am still here, dieting for the last three days and doing well. will start the treadmill this evening, today I have been running like mad all over and doing lots of house work. I hope to have 3 more pounds off by friday ( I try for 3 pounds a week) so far I have lost 6 pounds in 3 days :) No wonder I feel so weak!
Bill Catherall 01-31-2005, 10:13 AM Went to the gym this morning. Did 30 minutes of cardio followed by about 30 minutes of weights. I decided it was best that I get back into weight training. It has really helped in the past and it just makes me feel better.
I'll still be doing Pilates too. My training schedule will be cardio/weights on M, W, F and Pilates on T, Th, Sa.
