CoasterChickie 01-07-2005, 11:16 PM By posting here at this very moment it makes it so that this healthy food accountability thread and the cheesy potatoes and other junky food thread have the exact same number of posts!!! :fez:
P.S. Oh wait....Mrs. Pooh just posted at the other thread.....YES...the junk food posts lead by one!!! (Nothing like a friendly competition to motivate all of you are eating healthy and working out regularly to keep up the great job!! :) )
P.S.S. Please note...the avatar at left shows what I've been doing for exercise although that's Jedi Knight and Naruto in the photo!
rentayenta 01-08-2005, 07:22 AM I am loving your avatar Chickie!
I have some sort of sinus thing going on so it looks like exercise is out so far today :(
I ate well yesterday and drank all of my water. WI is Tuesday so we'll see.
That fast food thread has me thinking about, well, fast food...argh!!!!
kisroo 01-08-2005, 09:57 AM Renta~hope you feel better! Drink lots of water. :(
WI went well! It appears I've lost the 2 lbs I gained on our vacation! I did a spin class this morning and did some work on my arms.
Of course, hubby wants his favorite teriyaki place for lunch today. :|
Just keep the tempura away from me and I'll be fine.
~kisroo:)
rentayenta 01-08-2005, 10:06 AM WooHoo kissyroo! 2 lb is awesome! DO NOT say Tempura again. Evil, I say!!!
Hakuna Makarla 01-08-2005, 10:09 AM this is a very inspirational thread!!
i'll throw my two cents in - about two years ago, i made the switch from coffee to tea, mainly green tea - one of the best change in habits i ever made! one research i read said just by doing that, the change in your metabolism results in ~5 lbs lost pretty quickly (I don't remember the details, but it seemed to work like that for me).
green tea is also rich in anti-oxidants. it still has enough caffeine to keep me going, so i'm not talking about the herbal teas, which have none, and i don't drink.
i still drink coffee every once in awhile (like last trip to Disneyland where the Market House removed Tea from their menu  ), but switching to green tea if you are a coffee drinker will be a big beneift to your health.
I want you to know I did low carbs and also green tea 4 times a day ( I like it! ) and I lost so fast it was scary!
I am ashamed that i have not been on track, and have ate everything but the kitchen sink. My moods are rotten ( can't you tell in my posts  ) and I feel like crap! I am back on track now but still in one foul mood. why I wonder???? Any way I am sorry I was out of the diet and excercize mood, I am doing well today ( well lets pray since trhere is 12 more hours until bed time.
Hakuna Makarla 01-08-2005, 10:10 AM please explain spin class to all here who do not know what the heck you are talking about.I am slow .......... Must talk in one liners.........
marktips 01-08-2005, 10:10 AM Ugh, I wish i'd have gotten up earlier!!
I could of had a free lunch at the Mitsukoshi Teppanyaki or Tempura Kiku!!
*laments his sleeping in*
TrekkieDad 01-08-2005, 12:08 PM please explain spin class to all here who do not know what the heck you are talking about.I am slow .......... Must talk in one liners.........
Not that I'm an expert, since I've only been to one. It's an aerobic exercise class done on exercise bikes. The bikes are fixed gear (no coasting) and have a flywheel and a brake. The tension on the brake can be adjusted to make pedaling more difficult (supposedly similar to going uphill).
The class is done to loud music of various tempos, with the instructor telling you when to change tension on the brake and what percentage of your maximum heart rate is recommended.
It's a good workout, but I prefer riding outdoors on the real thing.
TrekkieDad 01-08-2005, 04:18 PM There was a break in the storms this afternoon, so I did a solo ride out my front door. Got sprinkled on, and the wind slowed me down, but I got in 16 miles in just over an hour.
I feel much better now, and it's started to rain again. DW is making chicken taco soup in the crockpot. New recipe, looking forward to giving it a try.
Renta, you need to get to that spin class.

Mmmmm, chicken taco soup. Please share the recipe.
I know, my plan is Monday. It starts at 9:30 and DH will be home to watch the baby. I wish I could get one of my slacker friends to join me.
I drank way too much coffee tday. I am trying to fight a headache. I did drink lots of water and ate well- I have 7 points left. I feel bloated though
I made a homemade chicken pot pie for dinner and it was delish. Its one of the kids' favorites.
TrekkieDad 01-08-2005, 05:20 PM ^ The recipe is from Fix-It and Forget-It Lightly, Healty Low-Fat Recipes for Your Slow Cooker by Phyllis Pellman Good. I found the book in Costco and gave it to DW as a Christmas present. The website www.goodbks.com is on the back cover. That appears to be the publisher.
TrekkieDad 01-09-2005, 04:18 PM ^ DW decided the recipe is definitely a keeper, and she's reading other ones from the book. Plus, we have some leftover soup for later in the week.
rentayenta 01-09-2005, 07:22 PM Thanks TrekkieDad. I am going to see if our library has the book.
I guess I should change the dates on this thread to make it month long? Mods, any help there?
I ate well today even with the trip to McDonald's with the kids. We had leftovers for dinner. I did drink alot of water. My head us finally starting to feel better. One more day until WI- wish me luck. Manana I am spinning.
Bill Catherall 01-09-2005, 07:54 PM I changed the thread title for you Renta (or do you prefer Yenta :D ).
I hate weekends. Well, yeah, I don't have to go into work and I can "sleep in," but I have a harder time staying on track of eating right and getting enough water. Not necessarily eating the wrong foods, but just eating the right amounts. I don't eat enough and end up feeling ravenous by the evening. The same for water. I don't drink nearly enough. This is mainly because Mon-Fri I have a very regular schedule and I can plan things out. Sat & Sun I'm kind of thrown into a loop with no schedule and have to improvise all my meals. Sometimes I'll be working on one of my usual weekend projects (usually some home remodeling/fix-it project) and I am so distracted I'll even forget to eat.
I did allow myself one cheat meal this weekend though. And instead of going for the usual sweet stuff (which usually just makes me crave more) I went to In-N-Out instead. I just got a Double Double (animal style of course), no french fries or soda. It's what I'd consider a "healthy cheat." It's not exactly healthy food, but I love to eat it and it's not as bad as a huge slice of cake that just leaves me feeling bloated.
disney jones 01-09-2005, 09:02 PM I just got a Double Double (animal style of course), no french fries or soda. It's what I'd consider a "healthy cheat."
i do the EXACT same thing, order the Double Double without the fries and Coke, then pat myself on the back! (not animal style though, but I do sub the 1000 island dressing for ketchup.)
rentayenta 01-10-2005, 12:36 PM Thanks for changing the title Bill; and Yenta is just fine :D
For all those wondering: Spinning. Kicks. Your. Butt.
In n Out- sigh.
CarlieB 01-10-2005, 06:04 PM I'm making a real effort to drink more water and herbal tea, while cutting back on soda and alcohol. Hard work at times, but I'm hoping it will be worth it:)
TrekkieDad 01-10-2005, 06:47 PM I like weekends, Bill. I'm too busy bike riding to eat more than a little at a time, and I usually weigh less on Monday than on Friday.
This was not a good weekend for riding, with the rain and all. But I did get in 16.5 miles in just under an hour today after work. Tipped the scale at 165 this morning.
Got a 3-day weekend coming up, and it looks like it will be dry! :D
kisroo 01-10-2005, 08:35 PM Did well on the eating and exercising front today. (Yay!) I did an hour on the elliptical trainer while watching "Angel"~nothing like spacing out to fluff while working out. Kept my mind off how long I was on the machine. I love the elliptical, but I get bored after about 1/2 hour.
I tried a new recipe that was fairly low fat and healthy (which usually equates hubby not particularly liking it, but then again, he can eat what he wants and burns it off quickly... ). It was bay scallops over pasta. Had that with steamed broccoli. Yum. It was good~even Mr kisroo liked it. :D
I'll be spinning tomorrow am (5:00am, to be exact. UGH!).
I wish I could ride outside like you do, Trekkiedad! But, I'm a chicken on the "open road" as well as a fair weather rider~which means in Oregon you ride only in July, August, and September! :p Good for you, though~being all outdoorsy and all! ;)
I love the spin classes~our gym has a separate room set up for it with dimming lights and a killer stereo system. I truly lose all my cares/worries (and plenty of sweat) during the classes.
Anyway, a good and healthy day for me!
~kisroo:)
rentayenta 01-11-2005, 09:23 AM So I lost 1 lb at WI. Now I am asking myself, why oh why did I gorge on Chinese food last night? Here at the Casa de Renta, we eat Chinese food about 4 times a year so when we do we order everything and eat it all.
I did do the eliptical for 45 minutes. My sweat smelled like Lo Mein; Ew!
Wishing you all a healthy and happy day!
Bill Catherall 01-11-2005, 10:58 AM I forgot to weigh in yesterday. So today's weigh in was 204 lbs (down 3 lbs) and about 17.9% BF. The BF may be off a bit. I did 2 measurements and one came out just under 18 and the other just over 19. Skin fold measurements are unreliable for accuracy anyway. It's the overall trend that needs to be considered.
Not a big change, but I'm not disappointed with it. It's what I expected. The first week's loss is usually just losing excess food and water weight. And if you're losing at a rate of 1-2 lbs per week (a pretty healthy rate) then it will hardly register on the scale week to week. But small changes can yield big results over time.
I am feeling really good too.
rentayenta 01-11-2005, 08:22 PM Excellent Bill on the 3lb loss.
kisroo, I am in awe of your Lifetime status!
I ate well today, drank all my water, and exercised. If I keep this up, I'll be down 20 lb in no time. One day at a time.
I love peanut butter. I had an apple with peanut butter for dessert. Mmmmm.
kisroo 01-11-2005, 08:28 PM Spinning came really early this am...but I did it. And did weights for my legs. I have a sneaking suspicion I will awake with sore...ahem...glutes, tomorrow am.
I didn't eat enough at lunch today (too much paperwork/instruction planning to do...) and got a massive headache. I ate a small protein snack prior to going to my class tonight and the headache is gone, thank goodness. I need to remember to get my protein midday or I'll pay later in the day.
Anyway, great job everyone~Yay for the lb loss, Renta and Bill! Bill's right, slow loss is hard to take, but in the end, much better healthwise.
Renta~I'll bet you lose some water weight. I always get crazy water retention with higher sodium (Chinese) food. :)
Have a wonderful Wednesday!
~kisroo:)
CoasterChickie 01-11-2005, 10:14 PM I come in peace!! (LOL)
Today and yesterday I ate very well. I have kept up my workouts. So far I've lost 4 pounds and 1% body fat! Yay!! Fast food is gross...just say no!!
Keep up the great work everybody!!! :)
disney jones 01-11-2005, 10:32 PM there seems to be a backlash to this thread in other threads and it's growing! (and its probably done on purpose) - so many other posting on churros, Cadbury eggs, turkey legs, cheese filled pretzels, fudge, and corn dogs! :( (LOL!!)
