I have the Guthy-Renker beginning pilates DVD set. I've used it a total of.... once.

Oy vey.

Is that the Mari Winsor pilates set? Those are very good for beginners. Don't do the "how-to" one more than once -- it'll put you to sleep with all the repetitive instructions in between exercises.

That said, I am looking down the nose of the last week of training for my half-marathon. This morning, I ran 6.6 miles (half the distance of the half-marathon, which is 13.2 miles). The half-marathon is this coming Sunday, and after tomorrow and Thursday, I'll take Friday and Saturday off to rest up before the race.

Good luck! I'm training for the LA Marathon in March, and I can't wait for it to be over! Hope you beat your time, but hope it goes well!

Lani, good luck with the marathon! I envy you runners.

Thought I'd check the scale this morning: 167.5 and 15% body fat.
Biked to work and back, 7.8 miles total
My big vice for today was shrimp chips. They're a little fatty, but at least it's corn oil.

I did well today, drank all my water, exercised, up until dinner.

I made baked chicken, mashed potatoes, and salad. I ate waaaaay too much. I went over points but luckily tomorrow is another day- I really hate that saying too.

I am spinning at 9:30 am!

Strive for progress not perfection.

I woke up late and missed a meal, I'll either do it later tonight if I can't get to bed early (like today, why I woke up late). If not, no biggie.

Yep, that's the one we have too. Winsor Pilates. 3 DVDs. I went through the first one this morning where they just teach you 7 of the basic exercises to get you familiar with some of the technique and form. The 2nd DVD has a 20 minute workout. The 3rd DVD has a 59 minute workout. After the difficulty I had in doing just this morning's "workout" I'm interested to see how things progress.

Most of the difficulty I had was due to lack of flexibility. You don't need to be extremely flexible, but having a tight lower back and hips doesn't help things. I like that they include instruction for modifying the exercises for just such conditions.

Just keep at it Bill. Each time you do it, it'll get easier.

1-05-05 yesterday

Used 20 of my 23 points and earned 2 APs. I didn't do the spin class as planned. It was too intimidating; those chicks are hard core. I did the StairMaster again for 45 minutes.

I drank 96 oz of water too :D

I am sad that I will miss my workout today. I have to go to SLC in a bit and its snowing like crazy. I rarely go into the city but when I do, the weather sucks :(

I had a great run last night, I made it up a hill that I usually have to walk! Woohoo, I really feel stronger!

I also ate pretty well yesterday. I don't count calories, but as long as I don't eat sweets/over eat I'm happy. Breakfast-Kashi/Banana/2 cups coffee with low fat milk, Snack-Apple, Lunch-Garden Salad with Vinagerette, left over Chicken Cacciatore with noodles, Snack-Orange, Dinner-2 slices homemade veggie pizza with whole wheat crust. It's probably 1,800-2,000 calories, but I need the energy for my training.

I'm not counting calories or grams either. I just eat in portions that satisfy me without totally filling me and in proportions (proteins/carbs/fats) that I feel are well balanced.

So far so good. The sugar cravings aren't quite as bad anymore. I was too tired this morning to go to the gym but did it anyway. It feels like my body is making the adjustment well as I don't feel quite so bloated anymore. That's always a good feeling.

Did just over 20 miles on the bike today--including back and forth to work. Storm in the forecast :( probably will not be riding for a few days.

Renta--don't let the "hard core" chicks intimidate you into not going to the spin class. (Reminds me of how my showing up in full club kit intimidated the regular spinners. They thought I was a "serious" cyclist.) You can set the spin bike easy or hard to suit your own needs--and no one else will be any the wiser. :~D

20 miles- amazing!

I didn't know I could set the level in a spin class. I'll give it a go then. I missed my workout this morning :(

I ate well and drank a ton of water. Like Bill said, I love not having that bloated feeling.

Felt well enough to return to my gym routine yesterday morning and made it through today without coughing! Go me.

Let me tell you~I'm gonna market the Pseudoephedrine aka Sudafed Diet! That stuff kills my appetite. I've probably lost 2 lbs in the past 2 days alone.

Of course, you'll just gain the weight back when you get better... :|

Renta~I wish you were closer~I'd go to a spin class with ya! They rock. You feel pretty dang strong after. And you burn calories galore.

Other than that, I've been journaling and trying to stay within my points. I am braving the post holiday WI on Sat am. Bright and early at 7:00 so I can rush to the gym to work out after!
Wish me luck!
Stay healthy everyone,
;)kisroo

This is the food accountability thread right?

Does it have to be healthy food?

I cannot tell a lie...I just had chips and salsa and one fajita. Then I had dessert ....a york patty. At least I didn't have the cheesy potatoes tonight so that counts for something , right? :D

I DID exercise for one hour...I did 20 minutes of cardio on the bike and then a 40 minute leg workout.

Do I get a gold star to put on a chart or anything?

Who started this thread anyway? ;)

Get out! Get out! GET OUT! ;)

Who invited that Chick anyway?!?! Now I'm hungry!!!

Just joshin' CC. Of course you can have chips and salsa and a fajita. It's all about moderation, right? But where was the sangria in that dinner??? Or a margarita at least! :p

Good job on the exercise. :)

Ran 4 miles non-stop yesterday. Usually I have to walk a little after three. I'm really getting stronger/faster.

Ate OK, work had a healthy birthday luncheon for the boss - soup, salad, fruit. I only drank water, ate reasonable portions, and I chose the smallest slice of birthday cake and only ate half! (I can't cut out ALL sweets).

It's already been done, but the FDA banned it. It was called Ephedra, which is just another derivative, like Pseudoephedrine, that comes from Ephedrine. Now, don't let that scare you away from Sudafed. The ban on Ephedra was about much more than "unsafe" suppliments. It was about politics and bad science.

Anyway, I didn't get to exercise this morning, but I'll make up for it tonight with the 20 minute Pilates I was planning to do this morning. I don't usually like to workout at night, but better late than never, right?

this is a very inspirational thread!!

i'll throw my two cents in - about two years ago, i made the switch from coffee to tea, mainly green tea - one of the best change in habits i ever made! one research i read said just by doing that, the change in your metabolism results in ~5 lbs lost pretty quickly (I don't remember the details, but it seemed to work like that for me).

green tea is also rich in anti-oxidants. it still has enough caffeine to keep me going, so i'm not talking about the herbal teas, which have none, and i don't drink.

i still drink coffee every once in awhile (like last trip to Disneyland where the Market House removed Tea from their menu  ), but switching to green tea if you are a coffee drinker will be a big beneift to your health.

Worked out, ate pretty good today - work had pizza as part of a meal and since it was papa johns with fresh ingredients i said what the hell and had it as one of my meals. Not the best, but not terrible either.

Worked out, overestimated my bench strnegth and had one of those fun times where you almost have it up, slip, and oh look, you're stuck under it cuz you went too far down. Major pisser, but i lived, no worries. I put too much weight on, thought i counted right but was about 5lbs off, and that cost me that one last rep - it seemed heavier than i expected, hehe.

20 miles- amazing!

Not really, but it's all I have time for on winter work days. When we get more daylight and warmer weather, I'll be able to get in 30 mile days. Starting in April, we have a Wednesday "night" ride that runs a quick 23 miles.

What's really getting me down is that it's going to rain all weekend. That will be 60-80 miles missed. I'll make up for it this summer with 200-mile weeks, though. It's just hard to wait.

You can put the smelling salts away now.
