View Full Version : Six Flags Magic Mountain
Napsto 05-05-2001, 10:58 PM yesterday when i was walking through magic muontain i was thinking that disneyland fans would be ****ed if disney ran a park like that. every little thing would freak us out, but that is why disney is in a class above all!!!!
analog8 05-09-2001, 11:47 AM Tell me about it. I got free tickets from AOL a while back. I love the metal detectors at the enterance. When my girlfriend when through the thing started beeping like crazy and the security guards didnt even look up, they were busy talking and eating funnel cake. The place was nasty too, trash was all over the ground. When my cousins came out from Colorado they were planning to visit there but i told them go to Knotts instead, they realized they made the right choice when they got off Ghostrider for the 5th time :)
dgthx 05-09-2001, 05:23 PM This is true, the last time I went was with the free AOL tikcets too, and while some of the rides were really good, the general state of the park is not very good. Trash, peeling paint, general disrepair...it wasn't pretty. Disneyland is ultra clean compared to SFMM. And the people who worked there were rude and didn't generally seem happy to be there.
queenbytka 05-16-2001, 07:04 PM Last september we took our first trip there. The roller
coasters are so awesome! I live in washington ....the
most boring coaster state in the country. Anyhoo,
we really enjoyed the coasters, and the lemon freezes,
but the rest of the park was dissapointing. There were
no crowds, we walked on to everything. We brought
my mom, who commented on how different this place
was from disneyland. It wasn't bad, but that you could
see the difference, from the people who worked there,
to the upkeep. She hasn't been to disneyland very
much, but she could see the difference.
Goliath was too much fun!
Disney Fan Matt 05-17-2001, 09:03 PM It is important to keep in mind that Six Flags parks have no theming or atmosphere. I think that the coasters are great and you just have to enjoy those and look past the awful state of disrepair!

I have to laugh at that "awful state of disrepair" remark.
If I recall properly, DISNEYLAND is the park with wheel assemblies failing on it's roller coasters due to lack of upkeep. Sure, Six Flags might not be the "prettiest" looking parks, but the upkeep IS done on the mechanical end of their attractions. As for the Six Flags have no theming or atmosphere, just how many Six Flags parks have you been to?
crusher_appa 05-18-2001, 06:13 AM I like to think of WDW as a familly together place, at places like Six Flags they have great roller coasters but if you look at the family area it just doesn't compare to disney and how almost everything you can ride without being scared out of your wits (Alien Encounter excluded, Can't stand that ride I lose it every time). We have a world class paramount park right in our backyard but I look forward to Disney for years and get everyone i'm around very irritated how I go on and on about how were going in so many days (Wrote a java program that tells you exactly the day hour minutes and seconds till you go). You really can't compare Universal and Disney to other places because their just on different levels .
Disney Fan Matt 05-18-2001, 10:17 PM I seriously do not think that Six Flags is as exhaustive with their mantinence as they could be. Look what happened to so many of their rides over time: flashback, psyclone, ninja. THey all were in need of help for a long time and they only recently gave them the care that they deserve.
As for having no theming and atmosphere, I was not right about that. I just meant that they use the thrill rides as the focus of their park rather than using theming, like in a DIsney park or IOA where you feel like you are part of the lands. At Magic Mountain anyway, it is all about the coasters, which is fine with me :) but the attention to theming details is fairly minimal.
Napsto 06-03-2001, 09:27 AM yea, MM is like the coaster park!!!!!!
SimFan1985 06-14-2001, 05:02 PM I go to Six Flags Magic Mountain for the coasters, not the theming. Even so, the park does have some scenery. The back of the park is absolutely filled with trees, making those rides back there much more exciting. And some of the ride queues have been themed pretty well. Example: Batman: The Ride, or Goliath.
SFMM may not be the cleanest park in the country, but the coasters are the main focus of the park. Comparisons to Disneyland are not warranted, as one is a theme park and the other is a thrill park.
Knott's is my favorite park in Southern California, because it has the best of both worlds. It has large rides, and great atmosphere.
Auro_San 06-14-2001, 08:27 PM Six Flags is bad... Real bad... Oh well I always like Disney better
Disney Fan Matt 07-03-2001, 09:03 PM I'm really sorry about what I said in that earlier post that Magic Mountain has no atmosphere and in bad disrepair. I had not been for many years, and when I went recently, I have to say that I loved it!!
The coasters were incredible, every one was a pleasent ride. Wow. And the theming was decent for the most part, much better than I expected. The service and overall atmosphere was nice. Overall the park was great, and to Paul Presslers greatest fear, way better than DCA!
So I am taking it all back what I wrote previously. Magic Mountain is a really great park!!
By the way, the theming for Batman was great. It is up to the quality of a disney park. You start out in a gotham city park, then end up in the backstreets of gotham, end up in a sewer pipe (complete with dripping water sounds) and come around a corner to stumble upon the batcave with the theme song swelling. What an addition to an awesome ride!
SIx Flags Magic Mountain Rocks!!!!
Disneyfreak500 07-05-2001, 01:37 PM I wouldn't call Magic Mountain bad, but I wouldn't call it good either.
winniepooh 07-11-2001, 03:41 AM The only reason to visit six flags are the roller coaster, but if you are a coaster freak, the park is a must.
Hades 07-15-2001, 07:41 PM Maybe it was just my years of being a CM at the Resort (Disney, as if you all didn't see that coming :D ), but there seems to be a SEVERE LACK of personality from 85% of the park employees at SFMM.
Please note, I do not use the CM designation for those whom are gainfully employed there. Don't get me wrong, I'm not at all being elitist, I just think that after 16yrs of being a CM, I know the difference from someone who cares about what they do, and those who are just "going through the motions".
Love the coasters (roller), hate the COASTERS (people that work there that don't give a rats behind)!
