I up load pictures and put them in a file on my desk top, if I throw the file away after using them does this get rid of them on my hard drive? I am always up loading and doing animations, and when I am done I throw them away. Am I still having them on the hard drive or are they gone for good and not taking up space?

After you put them in the trash you need to also empty your trash can. That frees up the space on your hard drive.

After you put them in the trash you need to also empty your trash can. That frees up the space on your hard drive.

Under Windows, note that it is actually the "Recycle Bin" instead of a trash can. I believe Apple claimed some sort of a trademark on using a trash can for that purpose.

You may also want to do regular maintenance like defrag when you upload and delete large files like pictures. This helps to regain hard drive space and speed because it has larger open places.

Also, if you keep those pictures on your desktop it may slow down loading of the OS when you first boot up, just so you know. It may be better to keep them in your documents or my pictures file if it isn't too much trouble to get to them when doing your animation work.
